Nanase Ohkawa interview from Newtype #8 (Updated)

Here is the interview with Nanase Ohkawa that was published in this month’s issue of Newtype magazine, it also features a new Wish illustration:

It’s not really an interview since there is no interviewer, just Ohkawa talking about the anime ^^;

Credits for the scan goes to undini (thank you so much!), who also points some highlights from the interview:

– Kobato.’s world and Wish’s world is the same.
– When they were setting the plot for Ioryogi, from the beginning they thought that he did something in the world of Wish and because of that he became like this.
– They don’t know how many characters from Wish will appear in the Kobato. anime.
– Ohkawa says that Kohaku knows about Kobato and Ioryogi, but she doesn’t want to say anything else since it will be spoiling the anime.

EDIT: Allan Montenegro kindly translated the interview to portuguese and I retranslated it to english:

Two worlds connected

The worlds of “Kobato.” and “Wish” are the same!! In the end, there will probably be a lot of readers who cannot hide the surprise upon seeing this new fact! To start with, where the idea came from?

“When we first thought about Ioryogi’s creation, we thought about making a mysterious being coming from a world like the Heaven that we first described in “Wish”, for some reason, we thought about changing his appearance to the way it looks now. Since we decided that Ioryogi would appear, one could tell that both worlds were connected.”

With the animation of “Kobato.”, the two worlds will be more closely connected.

“It was a decision that came up during a meeting. We decided that to visually show the world of angels would be easier to understand to story. So, by making Kohaku appear, both stories become much more connected. Even so, in the end the title is still “Kobato.”. At the moment, it’s not clear how much Kohaku and the other “Wish” characters will appear (laughs). Besides, it is known that Kobato and Kohaku both sing very well, it would be very pleasant to make them sing.”

They are not just good at singing, in one way or another, Kobato and Kohaku have a lot in common. What kind of connection there is between them?

“If I tell you that, I would be spoiling a lot (laughs). However, it’s established in the anime version that Kohaku knows about Kobato and Ioryogi. The uncommon love that exists in the [Wish] manga is very strong, I think we won’t be able to develop Kohaku’s efforts [in the anime]. Upon watching the Ending, I thought “I’m so glad! It looks so cute!”, it looks good in the anime, very pleasant to watch. I hope you’ll like it.”

So the Ending animation is already done! And in the end it was an interview. A 3-questions long interview, but an interview nonetheless xD

Kobato. TV anime, Wish, Code Geass R2 news

Check out the new illustration for the Kobato. TV anime in this month’s issue of Newtype magazine, in which it’s possible to see the Wish crossover:

Click on Original image (4.7 MB) to check the same illustration in higher resolution.

Still no sign of the Nanase Ohkawa interview that is also carried in that issue.

It seems like they will be taking the connection with Wish really seriously. Wish is credited in the staff as being the original manga in which the anime is based on (along with Kobato.). It’s like the TV anime will be a merged adaptation of Kobato. and Wish. That certainly gives enough material to cover in 24 episodes, knowing that Kobato. has only 4 ongoing volumes.

Still on the Kobato. anime, the official website has been renewed! Make sure to check it out!

New names were added to the staff list:

Original work: CLAMP (Kobato., Wish)

Director: Mitsuyuki Masuhara
Series Supervision: Morio Asaka

Series Composition:Michiko Yokote / Nanase Ohkawa
Script: Mamiko Ikeda / Miharu Hirami / Reiko Yoshida / Tsutomu Mizushima / Yuka Yamada

Character Design: Hiromi Kato
Chief Animation Director: Satoshi Tazaki

Color design: Harue Ono
Art director: Hideyuki Ueno
Director of Photography: Kouhei Tanada
Editing: Kashiko Kimura

Sound director: Masafumi Mima / Toshihiko Nakajima

Music: Takeshi Hama
Music production: FlyingDog, Inc.

Animation: MADHOUSE

I have a few points to make about the updated staff. Most of its members has already worked in previous CLAMP anime adaptations, which is a very positive thing. Many of those worked in Card Captor Sakura, which is even more positive.

Morio Asaka (CLAMP IN WONDERLAND, Card Captor Sakura, Chobits) has joined the staff as series supervisor, which is very nice.
Nanase Ohkawa is no longer alone in charge of the series composition, she is now sharing the role with Michiko Yokote, who also worked with Ohkawa as series compositor of the XXXHOLiC anime.

Also, Nanase Ohkawa is not listed among the series’ scriptwriters, this probably means that she won’t be writing too many episodes. I’m not very happy with this news, I was expecting Ohkawa alone would write a fair amount of episodes, but at least she will be supervising all scripts and hopefully writing a few.

The director of XXXHOLiC’s anime, Tsutomu Mizushima, will be one of the scriptwriters. I thought that was surprising.

Sound and color supervisors have previously worked in the Card Captor Sakura anime, which is good!

Music will be in charge of Flying Dog, which means the artists of the opening and ending themes shall probably be one of these. My bet is on ALI PROJECT and Maaya Sakamoto =)

The website has a production blog too, which I’ll keep looking for any interesting info. Right now they have a short interview with the director, which again he mentions that the characters of Wish will appear a lot in the anime.

Kobato. TV anime is scheduled for the Autumn.

Moving to Wish now, the same official website of the Kobato. anime mentioned above reveals that volumes 3 and 4 of Wish’s new edition will both be released on September 26, a month after the release of volumes 1 and 2.

Lastly, we move to Code Geass R2.

The latest Newtype magazine and also CLAMP-NET.COM announced that CLAMP will draw a new illustration of Code Geass R2 that will be part of the Newtype pinup calendar.

The illustration will be used in the calendar for the month of October and will be published in the next Newtype magazine, which will be out August 10.

CLAMP NEWS !!

Kobato. at Tokyo Anime Fair 2009

Here are some pictures I was able to find displaying the Kobato. TV Anime at this year’s Tokyo Anime Fair, that took place during this weekend.

And this one that I was not able to find in bigger size:

The only new illustration seems to be the one used for Kobato paper doll, which was displayed in more than one place, it seems xD

Apparently there were some goods too:

One thing worth mentioning is that Kobato. was part of both Kadokawa and KLOCKWORX booths. Could this mean that KLOCKWORX is going to be the distributor of the Kobato. TV anime? Stay tuned for any confirmations =)

Aaaaand, I noticed the other day that I broke the inspiring mark of 1000 friends! Waaaah~! *0*

That’s a big achievement for me, I’m very happy and grateful. Thank you so much everyone who has “subscribed” to this journal, thank you for allowing me in your friends lists! *bows*

And please continue your favors towards this journal! ^__^

It got its own domain and everything (I mean, not just a page in NHK’s domain).

The website also announces that a special booth for Kobato. will be build for the Tokyo Anime Fair, which will happen this weekend. A life-size Kobato paper doll will be displayed in the booth!

The Kobato. anime starts in the japanese Autumn.

Update: Here’s a picture of Kobato life-size paper doll from this year’s TAF:

EDIT: Bigger version of the spread can be found here and here thanks to !

There are no new information about the anime. Cast is still undecided. There are, however, the names of the producer and producer assistant, but I can’t understand the kanjis =_= Producer is Yuuji Shibata and Assistant Producer is Yuuko Sugie (couldn’t find any info on her).

I think we can expect a new article each month in Newtype from now on, I guess that’s what happens when the manga is being serialized in Newtype itself xD Good for us!

I love the image, by the way. Madhouse will not disappoint us =D

Newtype #1 preview, XXXHOLiC & Tsubasa web radio

undini-san sent me some preview shots from this month’s Newtype magazine, it includes the complete Kobato. anime article, the colored splash page of Drop. 11 and Satsuki’s column.

The Kobato. anime article has a few more character sketches. Check them out at this album.

He was also kind enough to translate a few important remarks from character designer Hiromi Kato’s comment:

Hiromi Kato (Character Designer) said that Kobato. itself it’s kind of different from past CLAMP works, specially the way the eyes are drawn. They are trying to make it the most closer and similar way to the original one.
Also said that the costumes will change in each episode. And she’s drawing Ioryogi the most stuff animal-ish as possible, and actually wants a big sized version of it. Since the majority of the characters are wearing very frilly clothes maybe it’ll be difficult to animate them. It’s going to be really hard when Kobato, Chitose and her two children (Chise and Chiho) appear together in scene. They made Fujimoto’s shoulder width wider than before back in the first arrangements because he was turning way too shounen-ish. They are taking care when drawing Sayaka. Since she also has a feeling of unhappiness around her.
The cast (as in the Seiyuus) is not decided yet.

With 24 episodes and clothes changing in each episode, I wonder if Mokona will be involved as costume designer like in CCS (I hope so).

It’s funny to see her speaking how hard it’ll be to animate all the hair xD Good luck to MADHOUSE, but I’m sure they’ll do just fine.

The spread is even prettier in bigger size! We can see Fujimoto’s eyes are green (I wasn’t 100% sure from the one color page we have of him), while Sayaka’s are blue. We can also see the little “drops” inside Kobato’s bottle have different colors!

Other than that, why CLAMP-NET.COM is no longer notifying when there are new color pages coming out? XD I’m not complaining but it would be nice to know xD I guess it’s natural since it’s the beginning of tankoubon 4. Beautiful image, by the way!

The illustration from Satsuki’s column is very much lovely as well X3

From Kobato. to XXXHOLiC and Tsubasa OADs…

Onsen will be broadcasting a new web radio show about the XXXHOLiC and Tsubasa OADs.

Sponsored by Kodansha, the show will be called Don’t wait until the Spring for Tsubasa & XXXHOLiC! (『×××HOLiC』&『ツバサ』の春まで待てないっ!) and be hosted by seiyuus Sayaka Ohara (Yuuko), Jun Fukuyama (Watanuki) and Daisuke Namikawa (Fye).

It’ll be transmitted online on a biweekly basis starting December 24 via this link.

Kobato. anime in the press

Mycom and Mainichi both have articles about the newly announced Kobato. anime adaptation.

According to the articles, a total of 24 episodes are scheduled.

They also have a summary (which is similar to the manga) and a new picture of Kobato.

The Kobato. anime is scheduled for Autumn 2009.

Unrelated PS: I found out yesterday that Keane is going to play in my city again next March! Hurray! \o/ I’m there already *bliss*
