CLAMP New Year’s Greetings

Traditionally, every year CLAMP and other japanese artists give their New Year’s Greetings by drawing something related to the correspondent animal of the Chinese Zodiac Calendar. According to the Chinese Zodiac, the year of 2017 is the year of the Rooster, therefore CLAMP made an illustration of the Mokonas and a chicken:

CLAMP on social networks

CLAMP also started an instagram account, you may follow them @clamp_4_official. They have been updated it almost daily since they launched it a few days ago.

Among the new posts, I would like to highlight the two signature boards they did in December 28th that might be the prize for a contest that Kodansha is holding for illustrations submitted made with Card Captor Sakura‘s mangaka set. In one of them, Princess Sakura from Tsubasa is holding a little chicken, also in reference to the year of the Rooster:

Nanase Ohkawa is putting her twitter account on hiatus for an undetermined amount of time so that she can focus on her work. She tweeted that she will be quite busy working on the series composition and writing the scripts for all the episodes of the upcoming Card Captor Sakura new TV anime. She also mentioned working on “other projects” without giving specifics.

Kodansha has revealed the cover of Tsubasa SToRy CHRoNiCLE official guide book. The cover illustration is the other half of the CARACTere CHRoNiCLE book cover.

According to the book’s synopsis, it will contain an interview with CLAMP, the Kinugawa Onsen arc short story, character relationship charts, an easy-to-understand story timeline and tribute illustrations from Isuke Umada (Teru Konda’s Legal Recipe), Okubo Atsushi (Soul Eater), Sasuga Kei (GE), Suzuki Nakaba (Seven Deadly Sins) and Terajima Yuji (Ace of Diamond).

The book comes out on December 31st.

You can pre-order it online on CD Japan and Amazon Japan.

I did notice a weird razor appearing near Syaoran in the CARACTere CHRoNiCLE book cover and aha, it turned out to be Kurogane’s sword after all 😉

I am looking forward to that timeline (aren’t we all?) and I hope the CLAMP interview will be longer and more revealing than the CARACTere CHRoNiCLE Q&A.

Tsubasa CARACTere CHRoNiCLE, ILLuSTRaTION CHRoNiCLE covers announced

Here are the covers of Tsubasa CARACTere CHRoNiCLE and the mini-artbook Tsubasa ILLuSTRaTION CHRoNiCLE:

They go on sale simultaneously on December 2, along with Card Captor Sakura Clear Card arc #1 (cover to be announced).

You can pre-order them from CD Japan and Amazon Japan.

CD Japan:

Amazon Japan:

Syaoran and Sakura look particularly young! I guess it must be hard for Mokona to switch styles ^^” And I was certainly not expecting an Alice in Wonderland theme for the mini-artbook cover. Mokona is the Queen of Hearts =)

I’m looking forward to these!

Card Captor Sakura and Tsubasa books pricing announced

Four CLAMP books are scheduled to be released in December and the prices have been announced.

Card Captor Sakura Clear Card arc #1 (regular edition)

Release date: December 2
Price: 429 yens

* Kodansha has yet to announce the price for the limited edition but some online shops are listing it for 2280 yens (like Animate).

Official Guide Book Tsubasa CARACTere CHRoNiCLE

Release date: December 2
Price: 880 yens

Tsubasa Mini Artbook – Tsubasa ILLuSTRaTION CHRoNiCLE

Release date: December 2
Price: 680 yens

Official Guide Book Tsubasa SToRy CHRoNiCLE

Release date: December 31
Price: 880 yens

Now let’s talk about these prices. Both guidebooks having the same price seems fair to me, and the prices are OK too, as expected. Now, I was a little surprised to know that the mini-artbook is actually cheaper than the guidebooks. The binding must be similar to the two previously released artbooks, I’m just curious about its size dimensions (A4 vs A5). We also have the release date for the second guide: the very last day of 2016.

Regarding Card Captor Sakura, the price is similar to the original tankoubon release from the 90s, so it looks like it’s gonna be closer to that edition than the Nakayoshi 60th Anniversary edition, design-wise. It doesn’t look like it’s coming with color pages, either… We still have to know more info about the limited edition but it’d say the book itself will be the same for both versions and the bonus material (a mangaka set for volume 1) will be the only difference between them.

Tsubasa Mini Artbook – Tsubasa ILLuSTRaTION CHRoNiCLE

Release date: December 2

  • All 23 color illustrations from Nirai Kanai hen
  • Selection of the best colored scenes from RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE

This are sure good news!

I’m glad we won’t have to wait too long to have the color illustrations of Nirai Kanai hen. It would have taken many more years to fill another artbook with the same length as the previous two ALBuM De REProDUCTioNS. I am curious about which illustrations from RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE will be selected. Instead of reprints, it be would be much better if it were the colored comic pages that were in neither of the artbooks. I counted 20 color illustrations for WoRLD CHRoNiCLE and 3 for each special limited edition cover, but maybe I miscounted… I’m not sure if the covers of the special editions of volumes 1 and 2 would be counted as WoRLD CHRoNiCLE or RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE ^^” Either way, I hope they all get included in this mini artbook.

And two guide books? That actually took me by surprise. The contents were divided in a way that makes  it hard to pick only one. I mean, I could live without the character surveys, but the storyboards and interviews are always so interesting! I hope they’ll include character sketches and unreleased materials.

Definitely looking forward to all 3 of them!

Special thanks to Manga Mag Japon for kindly letting me know about this.

Update: The release dates for all 3 books have been postponed. Source: CLAMP-NET.COM.

MP3 Download – 17 minutes (350kbps)
English translation.

I haven’t seen any decently ripped version of the audio drama yet, only a low quality recording of it, and since my copy arrived, I thought I’d give a shot at ripping and sharing it. I’ve never ripped a PLAYBUTTON before (I’ve never owned one before!) so I hope the quality is good enough.

The audio drama actually begins shortly before the ending of volume 3, during Watanuki and Syaoran’s conversation, then it segues into the extra story in the candy world from the booklet. There is actually some more extra dialogs in the audio drama that can’t be found in neither the manga or the booklet, so I was a bit disappointed that a script didn’t come along in the package.

DISCLAIMER: If you enjoyed listening to this audio drama, please support CLAMP by purchasing the original or licensed material available in your country.

Tsubasa – WoRLD CHRoNiCLE – is available for purchase at CD Japan with worldwide shipping.

On its third week of release, Tsubasa – WoRLD CHRoNiCLE – Nirai Kanai hen #3 dropped to the 45th position in Oricon’s weekly comic ranking, with 17.887 copies sold and an overall sales of 132,570 copies in three weeks.

Again, these are the worst third week sales for a Tsubasa – WoRLD CHRoNiCLE – Nirai Kanai hen volume — actually, these are the worst third weeks sales for all of Tsubasa since I’ve been keeping track of those.

These numbers are only for the regular edition. Numbers for the PLAYBUTTON limited edition are unknown.

It is unlikely that Tsubasa will show up again next week in Oricon’s ranking, so this is pretty much the final outcome for it.

For comparison’s sake, here’s a chart showing the performance for all 3 volumes of Tsubasa – WoRLD CHRoNiCLE – Nirai Kanai hen, now updated with its third week.

Tsubasa – WoRLD CHRoNiCLE – Nirai Kanai hen #3 sales report

© CLAMP・Shigatsu Tsuitachi CO.,LTD. / 講談社

© CLAMP・Shigatsu Tsuitachi CO.,LTD. / 講談社

On its first week of release, Tsubasa – WoRLD CHRoNiCLE – Nirai Kanai hen #3 debuted at the 11th position in Oricon’s weekly comic ranking, with 73.836 copies sold.

These numbers are slighly better than the numbers for volume 2 (55.809) on its first week, but we have to take into consideration the fact that the numbers for volume 2 stand for only 3 days of sales whereas volume 3 stand for 5 days.

Also, these numbers are only for the regular edition. Numbers for the PLAYBUTTON limited edition are unknown, however, they must be lower than 32.600 copies since it didn’t appear in the top 30 ranking.

For comparison’s sake, volume 1 sold 127.643 copies after 6 days of sales and volume 2 sold 55.809 after 3 days.

In case Tsubasa shows up again next week in Oricon’s ranking, I’ll post here about its performance.

A short but expected 6 pages for this extra story! Sorry for everyone hoping to see the boys shirtless… not this time.

This is being published this week in Weekly Shonen Magazine double issue 37&38.

And I loved the guest character! =)
