Chapter 83 ended with Seoritsu-hime asking Watanuki if he thinks she resembles “Yuuko-san”. This chapter starts from this point, to which Watanuki answers back saying he doesn’t think Seoritsu-hime resembles Yuuko and that although it’s true that creatures resemble their creators, he thinks Seoritsu-hime is Seoritsu-hime and Yuuko is Yuuko. This kind of made me feel that this is CLAMP telling us that even though Seoritsu-hime is giving a lot of Yuuko energy in Rei, she is of course a character of her own.
Seoritsu-hime is very evasive and dismissive, implying that answering that question would require a price (for realz?), but bottom line is that at this point Watanuki thinks she was created by Yuuko. Seoritsu-hime neither confirms nor denies it. I guess we will remain a little longer before we find out who created Seoritsu-hime/Momo. Still, I think we will find out later that that’s not the case.
Watanuki goes back to the initial point of the conversation: whether Seoritsu-hime can grant his wish of making everyone forget about his relationship with Yuuko. Seoritsu-hime replies that yes, she can, but there is a price to it (of course). Watanuki pulls out the crimson pearl that was produced by Yaobikuni and given to Watanuki by Jorougumo. Aha, the crimson pearl finally comes to play!
Seoritsu-hime seems interested, because she asks for Watanuki’s glasses as well — which belonged to Clow, the “Greatest Magician of All Time”, according to Seoritsu-hime (and everyone else). Watanuki looks a little surprised but he removes the glasses right away.
Watanuki asks Seoritsu-hime if she ‘met’ Clow — to which she replies positively. CLAMP used the “逢う” for “meet” here, which is used to evoke a romance, fate, nostalgia, or poetic tone. They didn’t use the most common kanji for “meet” (会う). She tells Watanuki that she couldn’t grant his wish and even though he knew it wouldn’t be possible, he still couldn’t help giving a try — we learned that from Clear Card, Seoritsu-hime is referring to what we learned there. To me that’s another indication that Yuuko didn’t create Seoritsu-hime/Momo, because I think she would remember much more about Clow if that was the case, not just of that particular episode.
The chapter ends with Watanuki giving away his Clow glasses to Seoritsu-hime. She asks him if it’s really alright and he replies that he can still see without them.
I’m not sure if the “transaction” will indeed take place because a) Watanuki still has his glasses at the end of Rou (it could be a replacement or Seoritsu-hime ends up not taking them); Doumeki’s grandson knows about Watanuki’s relationship with Yuuko (unless the wish will be only effective for the people that are alive now and Watanuki himself will tell Doumeki’s grandson about Yuuko).
What still remains to be seen:
The amber stoneWhat will happen to the Zashiki Warashi-lookalike?Why was Yuuko trying to kill the Zashiki Warashi-lookalikeThe contents of “the egg”- The crimson pearl — will Seoritsu-hime accept it as payment?
- Did Doumeki use his ring? Was that scene also omitted?
- Seoritsu-hime’s Book.
- Watanuki’s price for his soul-controlling magic.
- Who created Seoritsu-hime?
