Kobato. TV anime, Wish, Code Geass R2 news

Check out the new illustration for the Kobato. TV anime in this month’s issue of Newtype magazine, in which it’s possible to see the Wish crossover:

Still no sign of the Nanase Ohkawa interview that is also carried in that issue.

It seems like they will be taking the connection with Wish really seriously. Wish is credited in the staff as being the original manga in which the anime is based on (along with Kobato.). It’s like the TV anime will be a merged adaptation of Kobato. and Wish. That certainly gives enough material to cover in 24 episodes, knowing that Kobato. has only 4 ongoing volumes.

Still on the Kobato. anime, the official website has been renewed! Make sure to check it out!

New names were added to the staff list:

Original work: CLAMP (Kobato., Wish)

Director: Mitsuyuki Masuhara
Series Supervision: Morio Asaka

Series Composition:Michiko Yokote / Nanase Ohkawa
Script: Mamiko Ikeda / Miharu Hirami / Reiko Yoshida / Tsutomu Mizushima / Yuka Yamada

Character Design: Hiromi Kato
Chief Animation Director: Satoshi Tazaki

Color design: Harue Ono
Art director: Hideyuki Ueno
Director of Photography: Kouhei Tanada
Editing: Kashiko Kimura

Sound director: Masafumi Mima / Toshihiko Nakajima

Music: Takeshi Hama
Music production: FlyingDog, Inc.

Animation: MADHOUSE

I have a few points to make about the updated staff. Most of its members has already worked in previous CLAMP anime adaptations, which is a very positive thing. Many of those worked in Card Captor Sakura, which is even more positive.

Morio Asaka (CLAMP IN WONDERLAND, Card Captor Sakura, Chobits) has joined the staff as series supervisor, which is very nice.
Nanase Ohkawa is no longer alone in charge of the series composition, she is now sharing the role with Michiko Yokote, who also worked with Ohkawa as series compositor of the XXXHOLiC anime.

Also, Nanase Ohkawa is not listed among the series’ scriptwriters, this probably means that she won’t be writing too many episodes. I’m not very happy with this news, I was expecting Ohkawa alone would write a fair amount of episodes, but at least she will be supervising all scripts and hopefully writing a few.

The director of XXXHOLiC’s anime, Tsutomu Mizushima, will be one of the scriptwriters. I thought that was surprising.

Sound and color supervisors have previously worked in the Card Captor Sakura anime, which is good!

Music will be in charge of Flying Dog, which means the artists of the opening and ending themes shall probably be one of these. My bet is on ALI PROJECT and Maaya Sakamoto =)

The website has a production blog too, which I’ll keep looking for any interesting info. Right now they have a short interview with the director, which again he mentions that the characters of Wish will appear a lot in the anime.

Kobato. TV anime is scheduled for the Autumn.

Moving to Wish now, the same official website of the Kobato. anime mentioned above reveals that volumes 3 and 4 of Wish’s new edition will both be released on September 26, a month after the release of volumes 1 and 2.

Lastly, we move to Code Geass R2.

The latest Newtype magazine and also CLAMP-NET.COM announced that CLAMP will draw a new illustration of Code Geass R2 that will be part of the Newtype pinup calendar.

The illustration will be used in the calendar for the month of October and will be published in the next Newtype magazine, which will be out August 10.

  1. Is it just me or is the Kobato. picture in the website seems to be very low quality?

Anyways, Thanks for the info as usual! I have high expectations for the anime \o/ maybe because many CCS staff are involved with in it xD. I haven’t read Wish yet,so It’ll be interesting to see the characters I never met before in Kobato. 8D

    • No, it’s not just you, the pictures are really low quality ^^;

I was a little disappointed with the lack of Ohkawa in the scriptwriters team, but I guess she’ll be too busy to be taking care of all the scripts.

  2. AH~~~~ MORE ILLUSTRATIONS!!! XDDD Can’t wait for it! XDDDD
And though I don’t expect it but I’m happy to see Wish’s appearance in Kobato! XDD Wonder what role will she play in it… *very curious*

Thanks for the super big illustration btw! XDDD

  3. I hope it will be Maaya as well ^__^ Fiction Junction will make a good one though…Let’s wait for more update,,,I’m sure the news will be coming fast these days as the anime is doing to debut on Autumn =)

    • Nooo I hope Fiction Junction stays out of it xD I don’t like her music at all ^^;

And yeah, we are 3 months away from the debut so we should be getting more and more news. I think the cast will be announced very soon.

  4. No Ohkawa?

Ohkawa just stated they’re going to have several problems with Kobato. (TV) because they don’t know how to manage both the manga and the anime at the same time. She said the material for the anime is not enought (she even added that they will have to “come up with something”).

Now she is not even a scripwriter??? Are we going to see brand new episodes or episodes focusing on Wish? I don’t know what to expect…

    • Re: No Ohkawa?

Yeah, sort of, she was asked in the Da Vinci interview about the anime, and she said that there is not so much material to cover, I guess that is why they decided to focus more on Wish, too.

I was disappointed that she won’t be one of the regular scriptwriters too ._.

      • Re: No Ohkawa?

I guess we have to deal with it… I have to say the lastest anime adaptions were kind of… so-so. Too many fillers and incongruities… What really happened with Tsubasa season 3? Was it cancelled because of the violence or it was CLAMP’s decision? And XXXHOLiC season 3? We know there are the OADs… but still.

  5. I wasn’t very interested in Kobato before i wasn’t in the mood for a Clamp romance that echoed Chobits so much. Then i went to CLAMP No Lumiere(you and Aly-sama rock)and now with the Wish Crossover i’m psycked. But i believe they should do other stuff like past works and remakes of old ones….

      • Hands down Madhouse is the studio to go when it comes to Clamp, but still i have my doubts cause of the whole 24 episode thing…with Clamp long break streaks it means fillers…

  6. I was hoping Mokona would be added as costume designer too! Too bad =_=

I think the characters of Wish will have new voices. It’s been years since the Drama CDs were released, I don’t think they can hire everyone again.

  7. I just looked at Kabato character design… and i got to say it’s AMAZING!! The artwork is drawn in xxxHolic style, but with TRC coloring!!

  8. Hi Chibiyuuto…

In Kobato’s webpage appears a few line about Wish in anime. I don’t know if you see it before, but i don’t know japanese and i don’t trust a lot in on-line translators:

      July 10, 2009
The characters from Wish will be appeared in TV anime “Kobato.”…?!
Wish (total of 4 volumes) is CLAMP’s Popular Manga, which was published from November 1995 to July 1998 in Monthly Mystery DX.
The character from the work is decided to be appear in Anime…!
      Stay tuned.

      Story about Wish
In order to return the favor to Shuichiro Kudo, who saved her from the attack from the Crows, Angel Kohaku decided to live in Shuichiro’s house. However, returning the favor is not working well…

  9. Wait wait, too much posts xD, JK
Thank you for the info, i found very interesting and curious the fact about wish coming into anime in Kobato if that’s the case 😀
And finally i’m so excited about the neww CG Illustration, nice to see something new even the animeis finished

  10. There’s a disturbing number of people who worked on Death Note on that list, too. XD

Although, the color designer worked on Metropolis and Millenium Actress, which gives me great hopes for the show’s overall appearance.

  11. huh?

why does clamp likes advertising their work in their other work that does not cater the interest of the crowd that normally likes kobato?

  12. OMG… OMG.. This means we’ll get to see… Kouryuu animated???? OMG!!!! [Kooouryuuuuu!!!! *_______* … they OUGHT too choose a Good Seiyuu for him!!!]

And regarding the Code Geass illustration… I’m guessing it will feature… Lelouch and C.C. OR! Lelouch and Suzaku…

  13. I know who I’m gonna Cosplay!

Ali Project is DESTINED to do the music. Arika Takarano, i think, was going to be the seiyuu for Kohaku. I have a MP3 that has an sample of her voice. I don’t know Japanese, but I got out of it is that she loves Seirichiro dearly.

My friend and I where going to cosplay Kohaku (I) and Koryuu (My Friend) but, this gives us a better reason.

    😀 😀
