Newtype #1 preview, XXXHOLiC & Tsubasa web radio

undini-san sent me some preview shots from this month’s Newtype magazine, it includes the complete Kobato. anime article, the colored splash page of Drop. 11 and Satsuki’s column.

The Kobato. anime article has a few more character sketches. Check them out at this album.

He was also kind enough to translate a few important remarks from character designer Hiromi Kato’s comment:

Hiromi Kato (Character Designer) said that Kobato. itself it’s kind of different from past CLAMP works, specially the way the eyes are drawn. They are trying to make it the most closer and similar way to the original one.
Also said that the costumes will change in each episode. And she’s drawing Ioryogi the most stuff animal-ish as possible, and actually wants a big sized version of it. Since the majority of the characters are wearing very frilly clothes maybe it’ll be difficult to animate them. It’s going to be really hard when Kobato, Chitose and her two children (Chise and Chiho) appear together in scene. They made Fujimoto’s shoulder width wider than before back in the first arrangements because he was turning way too shounen-ish. They are taking care when drawing Sayaka. Since she also has a feeling of unhappiness around her.
The cast (as in the Seiyuus) is not decided yet.

With 24 episodes and clothes changing in each episode, I wonder if Mokona will be involved as costume designer like in CCS (I hope so).

It’s funny to see her speaking how hard it’ll be to animate all the hair xD Good luck to MADHOUSE, but I’m sure they’ll do just fine.

The spread is even prettier in bigger size! We can see Fujimoto’s eyes are green (I wasn’t 100% sure from the one color page we have of him), while Sayaka’s are blue. We can also see the little “drops” inside Kobato’s bottle have different colors!

Other than that, why CLAMP-NET.COM is no longer notifying when there are new color pages coming out? XD I’m not complaining but it would be nice to know xD I guess it’s natural since it’s the beginning of tankoubon 4. Beautiful image, by the way!

The illustration from Satsuki’s column is very much lovely as well X3

From Kobato. to XXXHOLiC and Tsubasa OADs…

Onsen will be broadcasting a new web radio show about the XXXHOLiC and Tsubasa OADs.

Sponsored by Kodansha, the show will be called Don’t wait until the Spring for Tsubasa & XXXHOLiC! (『×××HOLiC』&『ツバサ』の春まで待てないっ!) and be hosted by seiyuus Sayaka Ohara (Yuuko), Jun Fukuyama (Watanuki) and Daisuke Namikawa (Fye).

It’ll be transmitted online on a biweekly basis starting December 24 via this link.

Several things

The official website of the Tsubasa and XXXHOLiC OADs has been slightly updated with comments from the cast members. Nothing too exciting (I wanted Staff comments…).

ladydarkmoon has lots of stuff in her LiveJournal: this month’s Kobato. extra chapter (which should be up tomorrow on CLAMP No Lumiere, given its ridiculous length), Satsuki’s Newtype column and the covers of Tsubasa #25.

Make sure to drop a thank for all her hard work!

New CLAMP SDs, Ohkawa talks Holitsuba

CLAMP-NET.COM has new SDs drawings of the CLAMP members! And I didn’t notice it!!!

Check their PROFILE section for the bigger versions.

We can see Nekoi cut her hair short and on the other hand, Ohkawa has long hair again! *loves her long hair* The new SDs are so squishy XDDDDD

xD Very cool.

Also, today Nanase Ohkawa made a post in her Private Board where she briefly mentions the Tsubasa and XXXHOLiC OADs and the Holitsuba Drama CD.

Interview

Tsubasa & XXXHOLiC OAD news

The official website of the Tsubasa and XXXHOLiC OADs has been updated with a few news.

First of all, the official logos of both titles have been announced, make sure to check them out!

Second, a new installment of Holitsuba Gakuen Drama CD will be released. In order to obtain it, one needs to purchase all 4 OADs of Tsubasa and XXXHOLiC and submit the application ticket that will come with the DVDs (it is only possible to obtain the Drama CD by purchasing all 4 DVDs).

Nanase Ohkawa once again is in charge of the script, and CLAMP will draw the jacket illustration.

Lastly, Tsubasa Shunraiki opening theme song will be performed by Maaya Sakamoto and entitled SONIC BOOM. The track will be included in Sakamoto’s upcoming album due on January 14.

Tsubasa Shunraiki in the Press

Articles promoting the upcoming OADs of Tsubasa and XXXHOLiC are slowly appearing in the media.

Today website Hobby Channel published an interview with the cast and producer of Tsubasa Shunraiki.

The following are quotes from producer Rui Kuroki:

How was your discussion with CLAMP-sensei?

Every time we feel some kind of tension. Since it seems like we never release that tension, somehow we want to overcome that [part].

Please explain your enthusiasm while reading the sensei’s scenario.

This time it’s about the Nihon-koku arc, and the story comes to a turning point, so there are many things expressed [in this arc]. I think my job is to bring them beautifully animated.

Translation credits go to the always so helpful Sakura-chan.

Other highlights:

– The seiyuus all talk about how they have been playing these characters for so long. Miyu Irino was in high school when he played Syaoran for the first time and now he’s in university.

– Fye’s seiyuu, Daisuke Namikawa, said that when he first heard that a sequel would be released, he was a “little relieved” to know it wouldn’t be about Celes because he was worried on how he would have to play young Fye.

– Kuroki said that the principal drawing hasn’t started yet.

Lastly, this is a rough translation of the OAD synopsis according to Hobby Channel:

Fye’s past is concluded in Celes country. Kurogane sacrifices his arm in order to escape from Fei Wang’s trap and they finally reach Nihon Country. There, Syaoran strikes a battle with Seishirou for Sakura’s feather. The fight for the feather brings Syaoran inside the “Dream World”, where “the other Syaoran” awaits! What is the shocking truth brought by the outcome of the unavoidable battle?

I think these statements pretty much confirm that the OADs will be mostly focused on Nihon arc.

There’s a small article about Tsubasa Shunraiki in Mainichi as well (though this one doesn’t have any new information).

Tsubasa Shunraiki will be released in March, 2009 with the limited edition of Tsubasa #26.

Tsubasa & XXXHOLiC OAD updates

The official website of the Tsubasa and XXXHOLiC OADs has been updated with a new picture and the complete release dates.

As I reported previously, the Tsubasa OAD will be called Tsubasa Shunraiki (ツバサ 春雷記), which can be translated as Tsubasa – Thunder Record in Spring. Now the title of XXXHOLiC’s OAD has been announced as well. It’ll be called XXXHOLiC Shunmuki (XXXHOLIC 春夢記), which can be roughly translated as XXXHOLiC – Dream Record in Spring.

Now on to the official release dates!

February 17th – XXXHOLiC OAD #1
March 17th – Tsubasa OAD #1
April 17th – Tsubasa OAD #2
May 15th – XXXHOLiC OAD #2

All OADs have a running time of 25 minutes each.

Seems like it’s the second scenario that I suggested a couple of months ago.

Judging by the picture on the official website, I’d say it’s going to be about Nihon arc (as suspected by the title).

Much thanks to user radiomacrossing for letting me know about it (my readers rock!)

PS: I’m not so sure about the english translations of the titles. The kanji 記 means “record” but it could also mean “chronicle” (which is very suitable in Tsubasa’s case). For now the wisest choice would be to simply refer to them with their original japanese titles.

Tsubasa OAD Title

Yui Makino, Sakura’s seiyuu in Tsubasa, posted an entry in her official blog stating that a press conference was recently held at Kodansha to promote the OADs release.

In that entry, she revealed that Tsubasa’s OAD will be called ツバサ春雷記 (Tsubasa Shunraiki), which can be translated as Tsubasa – Spring Thunder Chronicles. I should credit my friend Sakura-chan for translating the title.

With that sort of title, it’s hard to predict what is going to be about (which arc of the manga, I mean). I wonder also if that’s the full title or just a short version.

There’s a small picture of the Tsubasa cast along with producer Rui Kuroki.

We should expect some features in magazines about the OADs anytime soon, now that an official press conference has been held.

The first Tsubasa OAD will be released in March. More information as they come =)

And while I’m at it, completely unrelated, but here’s the cover of CLAMP’s artbook for Code Geass, taken from ladydarkmoon‘s scans of the latest Kobato. chapter:

Beautiful illustration, but hideous typography (in my opinion xD)

The artbook will be out December 5.

CLAMP NEWS !!

The release dates of Tsubasa and XXXHOLiC OADs have been postponed.

Mid-August Edition

Tsubasa & XXXHOLiC OAD release dates: January to April, 2009

Anime Anime website has an article about the Tsubasa & XXXHOLiC OADs and, according to them, all four installments will be released in four consecutive months, starting in January with XXXHOLiC’s first OAD.

That means we’ll have XXXHOLiC’s first OAD in January, Tsubasa’s first OAD in February, then one in March and the final one in April. That, according to Anime Anime.

I was under the impression that the second OAD of both XXXHOLiC and Tsubasa would be released simultaneously, but it seems like there will be an interval of one month between the releases.

Basing on that, we have two different scenarios:

January: XXXHOLiC #14 with OAD 1
February: Tsubasa #26 with OAD 1
March: XXXHOLiC #15 with OAD 2
April: Tsubasa #27 with OAD 2

or

January: XXXHOLiC #14 with OAD 1
February: Tsubasa #26 with OAD 1
March: Tsubasa #27 with OAD 2
April: XXXHOLiC #15 with OAD 2

The schedule above should not be considered as official as it is based on my own speculations on the subject. I will report here once the official dates are announced.

I think the first scenario is more likely to happen, but at the same time, it’s hard to believe that between XXXHOLiC #14 and #15 there’s only 2 months of difference. But CLAMP can always haste XXXHOLiC’s pace in order to meet that deadline. We shouldn’t discard the second scenario either.

So what about the manga? Is volume 27 and volume 15 the final volumes of Tsubasa and XXXHOLiC? Or there is a 28th volume for Tsubasa? If so, will it run for an entire volume without XXXHOLiC or is there a 16th volume planned for XXXHOLiC as well?

For the first time I’m thinking that 27 is just as possible as 28 volumes for Tsubasa. I need the official dates to make a decision xD But for now my guesses are either 27 or 28 volumes for Tsubasa and 15 volumes for XXXHOLiC.

XXXHOLiC & Tsubasa OAD official website launched!

The official website of the XXXHOLiC and Tsubasa OADs has been launched!

http://kc.kodansha.co.jp/tsubaholi/

Looks very promising!

The official website confirms the information that the Tsubasa and XXXHOLiC’s OADs will have two OADs each, resulting in a total of 4 OADs.

「ツバサ」「×××HOLiC」ともに前後編のオリジナルアニメーションDVDの制作が決定。

And in opposition to what has been reported previously, XXXHOLiC’s OAD will be directed by Tsutomu Mizushima alone, and not by him and Shunsuke Tada. Tsutomu Mizushima, Shunsuke Tada and Nanase Ohkawa are members of the XXXHOLiC/Tsubasa project.

Kodansha has a hotsite to pre-order the limited edition of XXXHOLiC #14 here. The pre-order via Kodansha’s website is only available for customers residing in Japan.
