Oh the plot gears keep turning!!

Touya looking fine in those simple but awesome clothes. Mokona draw my wardrobe!

So Sakura is going to inherit that summer house. Not bad! We saw that coming and Fujitaka is being a good dad by asking Masaki to wait until she’s an adult. That Masaki dude can be really immature sometimes ^^”

Loved Fujitaka being wise and knowing all along. He knows he can’t be of much help but still he will support his family in whatever way he can. He is the opposite of Masaki, very mature and balanced xD Best Father award.

Sakura cornering Syaoran to spill the T! You go girl! And before Tomoyo, even! More on that on the upcoming chapters.

So another clock makes an appearance. And it’s an important one, it got 3/4 of a page! And it came from England, the place where Eriol and Kaito are from. And Nadeshiko cherished it. I can’t place it in the plotline at this moment but it’s definitely going to be important.

So Eriol finally decides to have a conversation with Kero and Yue. They are both very pissed off (with reason!). Nothing is said about the magic circle missing the cardinal symbols so either that is irrelevant and it was a mistake, or it will be addressed later.

Yuna was expelled from the Magician Society? From stealing/excommunicating an important item from that Society that is seem as a taboo among them? The first item that comes to mind is the Alice in Clockland book, but is it really that, though?

I find that plot really interesting and surely CLAMP are painting Yuna as such a bad guy. But I would hold my breath before judging him. We don’t know the reasons why he did all of that (assuming he did do it). He’s a CLAMP character through and through so he definitely had strong reasons for doing such a risky thing.

Something I thought after reading this chapter: assuming Yuna is indeed Akiho’s guardian (like Yue and Kero), if he is that powerful (more powerful than Eriol and likely less powerful than Sakura?) can you even imagine how powerful Akiho is?

The plot gears are starting to move really fast. It’s definitely looking like vol. 6 will close things in a certain way. All that is left to see is whether it will segway into a new arc of Clear Card will be the end of it all.

The updated list of cards secured so far:

  1. GALE
  2. SIEGE
  3. AQUA
  4. ACTION
  5. REFLECT
  6. RECORD
  7. FLIGHT
  8. LUCID
  9. SPIRAL
  10. SNOOZE
  11. LABYRINTH
  12. APPEAR
  13. BLAZE

A big yay for 31 pages! 91 pages for volume 5 so far — we’re probably 2 chapters left if they keep the 30 pages pace.

Next chapter will be out next month!

  1. It seems like Yuna is indeed suspicious, but couldn’t believe he’s no longer related to the society. Eriol said he’s not strong enough to support Sakura… I’m also glad to see conversation between father and Touya. So Grandfather appearing was that important purpose…

  2. Oooh so many things revealed this chapter!

I’m pretty sure that the watch Kaito cherishes is the thing that he stole. And just going off of CLAMP tendencies, their running theme of what is taboo is bringing back the dead, so I’m guessing that the watch has the power to control time. Maybe Kaito wants to bring back someone who has died with that kind of power? Like rewind and go a different timeline? Is that why Akiho and the new cards resemble Sakura and the Clow Cards? Ooof if it goes this route, it’s gonna get complicated, and Cardcaptor Sakura was one of CLAMP’s more simple works…

Just going off Cardcaptor Sakura history, but I’m going to guess that Kaito isn’t a bad guy. Maybe they’ll just paint him as a tragic guy that will do everything in his power for the people he loves, even if it goes counter to our main cast.

    • It made me think that the taboo is time-related too. I am a little worried of what that might lead to… I hope they will stay out of time travel this time even though that’s heavily implied.

i wonder if kaito was a double agent or something? or maybe he used the secret “D” society like how i suspect he is sakura using for her magic? im liking kaito more and more. i do like grey, shady characters.

  4. So many theories! What if Kaito sold the clock to Nadeshiko’s family, or maybe it was a present for her? What if he got the book for Akiho, or to use it to make Nadeshiko come back? What if instead he created Akiho? That would explain why Akiho feels so much like Sakura in many ways! I believe the necklace/clock could be more like what Akiho is trying to steal from Sakura, but Sakura had yet to receive it before, so in the dreams, the cloacked figure tries to steal the necklace thinking its the other one. Especially if Nadeshiko and Kaito had some kind of relationship before, if Akiho is really some kind of “reborn” Nadeshiko and if Kaito had given her that necklace, maybe the dream Akiho knows that necklace is hers, so she tries to steal it. But as I said before, Sakura only had the “dream key”, not the actual clock necklace. I just read the chapter and I have too many things on my mind! XD

  5. Fujitaka knowing the truth all along is the best plot twist we’ve gotten so far!

Nadeshiko’s clock pendant looks like it could become a ridiculously fancy new staff for Sakura. I wouldn’t be surprised if a) Clow had planted that pendant in an antique store for Masaki and his wife to find or b) Nadeshiko had more magical powers than the readers thought. To be honest, though, I think (a) is kind of a tired trope for CCS, and (b) would be really corny, but…Ohkawa seems dead-set on making Nadeshiko more relevant than ever these days, so I don’t have a lot of hope the story will go where I want it to go. :/

I said this in the Discord server already, but if I were in Eriol’s shoes, I would have reamed Yue and Kero out for having done nothing to help Sakura (and for having waited so long to do the obvious and contact Eriol themselves). I can’t believe Kero transformed into his true form for the first time in the comic just to yell at Eriol over the phone. Like, dude, Eriol’s been investigating the situation on her behalf all this time, and Yue at least held her school bag once, you haven’t even done that much!

Re: the missing cardinal directions on Clow’s magic circle, maybe Eriol altered it to make it harder for Kaito to track his location? (I thought I was being so clever last month, ahaha. CLAMP uses a template for the circle every time they draw it, so it would still be really weird if it was just an art error.) I hope we keep this conversation going into the next chapter, since there’s an uneasy implication that the current events might form a predestined trilogy with the capture and transformation of the Clow Cards.

My money’s on the artifact being Akiho herself. The fact that the members of the society feared it, kept it locked in one place, and forbade anyone from touching it…that’s a big contrast to how Kaito’s been caring for Akiho and taking her traveling around the world, isn’t it? It’d be so CLAMP-esque.

this is would like to be specified further. did he know or suspect at the time or was it nadeshiko who told him after sakura gave him magic? what does he know specifically??

      • He implies in this chapter that he’s known something was going on since Sakura entered the fourth grade, but he didn’t know the full details. We don’t know how much Nadeshiko told him at the end of the original series.

Hahaha and here we were all thinking he was clueless to the whole thing.

Hummm neat! Didn’t think about that.

I can’t believe Kero transformed into his true form for the first time in the comic just to yell at Eriol over the phone.
Come to think of it, have we ever seen either Kero and Yue on their other shapes (untrue forms) in the presence of Clow/Eriol? It’s like they always have to be in their true forms whenever he’s around. Maybe it’s a CLAMP thing, or maybe out of respect.

Good guess! And her family is not around, we don’t know anything about them.

I forgot to mention that one of my predictions for the series has come true: Eriol has begun his big, rambling plot exposition speech. XD

  6. Ohohoh I like how this is going~
Yeah the plot is climbing up fast now and won’t have much space for much dilly dwindling now Kero and Yue knows what Yuna truly is. And speaking of that guy, doesn’t this makes the first actual antagonist from the CCS manga? I mean, Yue was just testing Sakura and Eriol had his intentions obvious since the very beginning and now there’s a sorcerer with real ulterior motives? Hum
I like that, I like antagonists with real social skills and charm and yet are dangerous individuals. He got potential I’ll say that.
Yeah but we can’t judge him quite yet although we can tell somehow he’s using Akiho for his plot. The constant references over clock engines strongly hint his affinity relays on time.
Now if he’s a guardian? Dunno, sounds to me he’s just as a sorcerer as Eriol. And if he is as strong as implied, I dunno how exactly Sakura can stand a chance. I mean her powers are entirely dependable on the cards, we can’t use her magic offensively on her own. And based on Syaoran’s hidden motives and how upset he is, he just knows something prejudicial will happen to Sakura and he’s forcibly taking part of it.

    • “her powers are entirely dependable on the cards”
I made a comment on this based on the last episode that was aired. When Sakura faced hail she had no fire cards so was apparently useless. It got me thinking what exactly can she do apart from use clow reeds magical tools and dream seeing? I mean I know she’s young and still has a LOT to learn about the magic world… She needs to sign up to Hogwarts! Or the Japanese equivalent. But she’s surely got the ability to fight with her own magic and not just rely solely on the cards to do the damage. she just needs to learn how to use it.
Itl be great if clamp develops her abilities beyond cards. It’s nice that she’s facing something non clow related.

      • Sakura and fujitaka somewhat mirror each other this series. So their raw magical abilities and instinct is strong, but neither fully understand nor have the knowledge about this magical world so they both operate on gut instinct alone in a situation such as this, rather than knowledge . And they both have a knack forgot keeping things hidden from others.

I wouldn’t be TOO hard on Sakura, after all, seeing the future with your own power is nothing to sneer at, and the lack of fire magic wouldn’t be an issue if not for her cards mysteriously going clear. Syaoran relies on magic tools too, they’re just more flexible in their use, but I can’t imagine that he has an endless stash of those ofuda slips in his pocket, it’s lucky there hasn’t been a huge battle where he has to use so many. And if something were to nullify their power, he’d be pretty “useless” too since he hasn’t shown any inherent magic that isn’t channeled through or with a tool. Not all magic is flashy or meant for offense. In the original anime, she even creates a new card with her own power, and it’s KINDA hinted though not confirmed that MAYBE she’s doing the same thing with some of the Clear Cards (the Record Card in particular)? At the very least, she seems able to bring magic forces running wild in the world under her own power, like some kind of Pokemon trainer. She just needs the offensive magic to weaken it so that she can take control. Whereas Syaoran has that kind of offensive magic, but probably can’t tame magic forces outside his own. This is just speculation, we haven’t seen it tested with like Syaoran grabbing the staff to try to seal cards (could you imagine?! I’m kind of curious now!)
Also her “everything will definitely be all right” spell.

completely agree with everything you said! 🙂
          rather than useless i meant it showed a vulnerability, and she was defenceless in that moment. i couldnt think of the right word at the time and had to type fast while i was at work ^^;
i really do think her powers are becoming stronger and developing fast, and i think it’s to do with nadeshikos side.

Vulnerable, yeah totally! I was worried in the beginning that they were making her a little TOO powerful, you know? It seemed like the captures were going really fast. I guess that shows how much she has grown up, which is awesome, our little Sakura is becoming more and more badass. But it’s nice that the series took time to show that she isn’t an all-powerful hero, and can’t resolve everything on her own. It gives Syaoran a chance to shine too!

“i really do think her powers are becoming stronger and developing fast, and i think it’s to do with nadeshikos side.”

Oooh yeah, I wasn’t expecting Nadeshiko to have much of a role in this until this most recent chapter. And I always thought that the magic came from Fujitaka, being Clow Reed’s reincarnation and all, figured that he was just a carrier of magic without being a magic user himself.

i know right? this is why i am such a huge fan of CLAMP. they are masters at character developing- and not just with the main characters, foreshadowing, and plot threads that get followed through and explained. fujitaka mentioned early in the original run of ccs that nadeshiko was like touya who could see the supernatural beings. and now that is getting developed so wonderfully!

definitely! i love how they have animated his magic in the tv series! his sword summoning is just pure awesomeness! i think its because of syaoran stepping up a level we get to see how wonderfully effortless and in sync syaoran and sakura are as a team. its almost like no words are needed between those two, they just move as one. they make a very powerful and formidable team. can you imagine when they’re older?! i mean they always were a great team but sakura was always shown as the more powerful one, so syaoran kinda had to take a step back in the original series. so its lovely to see him working alongside sakura as her equal, and as her “third guardian” of sorts. ^^

  7. So the new clock can´t be the item Yuna stole since it was of Nadeshiko since she was a child; so it has to be:
    – The book
    – His watch
I don´t think is Akiho because then they would be lying and it isn´t a item but a someone/ some magic being and that will be too dark, it make more sense if he created her so instead of he being some form of guardian, she is the one created in the same way that Yue and Kero were created.

But then the thing that Akiho wants:
    – Did she said that she was looking for a book or just for something? I don´t remember, but it should be the Clow´s card book or the new clock.
I feel that if Eriol can´t help then Yuna looking for Clow/Sakura´s cards doesn´t seem like a good posibility since if he is or has something that makes him really powerful, why would he want those powers since Sakura´s one (right now) aren´t really a threat for him??

But Eriol still knows something … I feel that we are facing two/three things kind of unrelated:
    1. The new cards: Since at the end Eriol said that Sakura´s work so far hasn´t ended things, then it means these cards are something that was expected.
2? Sakura´s cards turning clear? : So this maybe something that Eriol/ Li are doing to protect Sakura or is a Yuna thing (or all of them now what´s happening)
    3. Sakura dreams, the thing that Yuna/Akiho are looking for.

    • On chapter 11, Akiho said she went all the way to Japan to get a single book: どうしても欲しい本があって この 日本まで来ました So it’s really about a book, probably the Clow Cards one, but it may be something else in Fujitaka’s library.

      1. Eriol was definitely expecting something could happen about the cards and his plotting with Xiaolang is related to it. My sister says Sakura’s magic became too strong and jumped out of the cards, leaving the old cards behind like too small snake skin, or something to this effect.

      2. Eriol and Xiaolang seem to have expected this kind of stuff, so Yuna may have make it happen faster, but did make it happen on his own.

      3. That’s the part the boys did see coming. Maybe Yuna saw the cards weakening and used the opportunity the make his pet project work.

yeah i was thinking something similar to what your sister said. but i think its happening to both touya and sakura. their magic is developing and i think its to do with nadeshikos side of the family and whatever they inherited from her. this could be why nadeshiko is being a no show at the moment. she’s pulling the same move as eriol, and will step in to save her daughter when the time comes. but the thing is for sakura it’s maybe making her powers jump forward several steps and she’s become as strong or stronger than clow (or something along those lines.) once things come together it’l be interesting to see what happens.

        • another theory i thought of was maybe nadeshiko stayed in spirit form this whole time cause she knew sakura (maybe touya and fujitaka too) would need her help at some point.

  8. Here the long awaited double spread! After 8 months. Here we have the double spread and magazine cover to open tankoubon 5. No announcement for a movie, I guess there won’t be any for Clear Card. Or maybe if there’s another part after Clear Card.

The drawing itself kind of have a Suki Dakara Suki to it, that bear plotline came around two month before the start of Nekoi’s series, so it’s probably linked in their minds. And it’s only the second title page with the lovers together, last one was on chapter 2, almost two years ago already. ^^; I like the colors of this one very much and they costuming into their name sake bear.

So much stuff move forwards in this chapter, we are on Tankoubon 5 all right.

Fujitaka and Touya get a 10 pages long conversation, I never would expect something like and I’m so glad they did. Fujitaka always felt like quite a shallow character, even though he’s Clow Read’s reincarnation. Card Captor Sakura isn’t a series for a demographic where long introspection is expected, but still. Anyway, this is a welcome development.

So Sakura is set to inherit this house? Work hard Touya, your sister will need a lot of money to pay taxes and maintenance for this house, even if she got it for free. xD Much more seriously, like I said in one of the lat two chapters’ post, this house is Edwardian style. And who else had a Edwardian style house in Tomoeda? Clow Read, his is neo-tudor actually, an under current of Edwardian linked to art and craft style. Now, how many early 20th century luxury house can there be in Tomoda? What are the chances that they are grouped in an fancy district. What are the chances that Masaki himself, being Sakura’s great grand father have lived there while a kid and met Clow Read somewhere in the neighborhood?

Then, the look alike comparison. First mention ever of Masaki’s wife, I hope we will see her, at least in the anime. Or is it her on page 6? Could she have died that young and look that much to Nadeshiko? Probably not, but the cloth look a bit old fashioned, so maybe. She looks like Nadeshiko and Sakura. Is she the one with magic power? And since Sakura looks like Nadeshiko, who looks like her Masaki’s wife, is it where we should look for a link with Akiho who looks like Sakura?

So Touya haven’t met his great-grand-father yet. Well, officially at least, he worked all over Tomoeda, unless he purposefully avoided him, they most have run into one another a one point, even if they didn’t know who they were talking to. Masaki has a big business which lacking a heir, if I remember well, maybe Fujitaka should arrange a meeting after all. As for Tomoyo, I guess she can have the summer house. Anyway, both Touya and Masaki can be quite stubborn, if that’s the only thing they have in common. xD

Touya diverts the subject to Sakura and Nadeshiko. Fujitaka brings the magic powers from the family, and he feels left out poor thing. With Nadeshiko first, then Touya and Sakura. So Fujitaka knew all along things were going on, but trusted his kids to deal with it on their own and didn’t said a thing about it. So Clow like. xD

And he brings back Nadeshiko disparition. This wasn’t resolve in this chapter either. Could it be related to the Clear card’s final? The subject was brought out first on chapter 3 after all. Or is there a card linked to it which Sakura will catch next? It has been 3 chapter in a row with no card, there is usually only one cardless chapter for the first four tankoubon. Something is going on. So maybe we will really get only 15 cards in the manga, the earthy one and another. Plus Akiho is supposed to come over see Fujitaka’s library, maybe we will get more on him and his books in the coming chapters. She was looking for a specific book, maybe he has more from Clow.

Anyway, enough with that, back to Sakura’s future house. There we have it, Sakura asking Xiaolang to be upfront with her and not hide anything, did I heard Xiaolang heart break just now? Poor thing, really, to be placed in such complicated situation for his lover’s sake. And here comes the present, a pendent clock. An 8 pointed star with two wings and jewels at the bottom. It looks like the new staff a lot. Plus that weird raw cristal on top. Masaki’s wife bought it from an England trip… Once again, she looks like Sakura and Nadeshiko, does she has magic powers, did she feels something special about the clock? Could it be the lost key to make the book safe?

Sakura and Xiaolang are leaving and Masaki entrust his great-grand-daughter to Xiaolang. Mission accomplished, he got the great-grand-father-in-laws’ approbation. Only Touya’s left. xD

Back to Yukito, here we have Eriol, in full regalia no less. It’s the first we see him wear it the series, shit got real. So it is time to break the silence and confirm the worst scenario is occurring. So Yuna has been out of the Society for a year. Akiho said she was with him since she was little, so I guess he was with her for a good while before he robbed the relic. They can’t get the artifac back, because “no one can win against a magician bearing the ‘D’ title”. Kind of sound like Fay in the magic library, who got out effortlessly. And from the sound of it, there aren’t a dozen of these ‘D’ magicians in the secret society. And they fear he would use the artifact against them.

And finally, about Sakura, that she capture the Clow Card and turned them into Sakura card wasn’t enough, there’s still another step to the transfer. In the first page of chapter 1, it says the 90s series events weren’t the end but the beginning, the beginning towards the end. So I would guess there is one final transformation to go on before Sakura’s ownership of the cards becomes final. That being said, Yuna seems to have a hand in this, as he suggested at the end chapter 17.

Talking of chapter 17, Momo hint that Yuna is trying to stop the book’s time, but even with his ‘D’ title, there’s nothing even he could do. I guess the stolen artifact is the Alice in Clockland book, which was forbidden to touch because it was too dangerous. Momo is definitely linked to the book, with the earring and stuff. If Yuna really is the book’s Moon guardian, I guess he became member if the society just to take ‘his’ book back. He may not have started this powerful, but stole magic from peoples like Nakuru was trying to do with Touya. He could even has taken his own maker’s magic, whoever they could have been. Or maybe he is a collective work from this society, hence why they can’t gang against him.

Also, I reread the last chapter of tankoubon 6 of the 90s series, where Kaho explain about these magic attraction and repulsion. Xiaolang and Sakura were both attracted to Yukito because he was the Moon guardian of the Clow book. Sakura was likewise attracted to Kero-chan because of the same reason, but Xiaolang being a moon magic user wasn’t attract to Kero-chan’s sun magic even if from the Clow cards. Sakura was attracted to Kaho because she felt the Moon magic of the bell as an ally against Yue, while Xiaolang felt it as a rival moon magic which was a different kind from the Clow cards magic.

If we get the logic back with the Clear Cards relationships, Xiaolang really feel the same for Yuna as Kaho, a rival moon magic of a different kind. Sakura on the other hand likes him because she feels he’s an ally as her cards’ guardian. Probably the same for Momo. As for Akiho, her magic was probably robbed by the book, but Sakura can still feel the affinity in their magic.

oh wow! love this history information! and i like the theory of masaki and clow having met or even been acquainted. he really does have an instinctive distrust of clow via fujitaka. even if he didn’t realise who fujitaka once was, he could of had a similar feelings towards clow. not unlike syaoran towards eriol initially.

“Anyway, both Touya and Masaki can be quite stubborn, if that’s the only thing they have in common. xD”
both are extremely stubborn, extremely over protective and extremely possessive! but both hand over sakura to syaoran. even if it was more of a deeply painful struggle for touya to do that. syaoran really did have his own final judgement with those two! XD

i wonder how yue and kero will deal with this now knowing kaito is very much a potentially dangerous enemy towards their beloved mistress. they’ll probably be like girl that aint gonna happen! stay away from them!

” did I heard Xiaolang heart break just now?”
yes it really did! syaoran may hold things back but his face cant hide anything! poor baby, it’s written all over his expression throughout. sakura is somewhat better at hiding things than syaoran in this aspect. she hides behind a warm sweet smile.

I like studying architecture style as a hobby. ^^

” i like the theory of masaki and clow having met or even been acquainted. he really does have an instinctive distrust of clow via fujitaka. even if he didn’t realise who fujitaka once was, he could of had a similar feelings towards clow. not unlike syaoran towards eriol initially.”
lol! Totally, to see a lookalike to that long gone crazy old guy from the neighborhood take his precious great-grand-daughter. xD

“i wonder how yue and kero will deal with this now knowing kaito is very much a potentially dangerous enemy towards their beloved mistress. they’ll probably be like girl that aint gonna happen! stay away from them!”
The conversation will probably continue next chapter, Eriol need to explain what’s going on with the cards. He will probably give them instruction on how to deal with him or even told them to stick with Xiaolang. Or he could even annonce that he’s coming over.

Lol yes that is so true! All 3 of them are extreme in many ways. Sonomi is an extremely good business woman, with an extremely quirky side. Touya is extremely hard working and an extremely good cook, and extremely shy. Masaki is a combo of both. The sudden extreme decision of handing over the summer house to a middle schooler XD

    • Rereading chapter 21, as Sakura and Akiho “resonate”, Nadeshiko’s ghost touch her daughter with both hands while Sakura was using RECORD. Maybe, Nadeshiko having carried the clock around for a good part of her live, her soul act like an antenna to make her daughter resonate with Akiho. Even more so if Akihois related to Nadeshiko’s grand-mother somehow.

  9. What a fantastic chapter! So well paced with first half covering fujitaka, second half covering eriol. Both halves of clow reed revealing huge revelations, and both being plot devices for making the plot move forward massively! Somehow feels like we’re half way through the manga at this chapter. The plot is changing towards the more darker tones now.
I think Nadeshiko family definitely behind the plot. Wow! We actually get a mention of masakis wife 😮 and once again the image thing is brought up again. Nadeshiko is the double of her grandmother. So the fact that akiho looks like sakura is even more plot device now.
Seems like the power sakura inherited from nadeshiko is surfacing. I think this has happened for touya as well. From what fujitaka said about her being able to hear, see and understand things that don’t speak reminded me trc sakura power… So i wonder if nadeshikos power will be similar to trc sakuras… Or maybe even yuukos powers.
Can’t wait for next chapter! I hope the plot continues along with this more urgent, threatening pace now. It’s getting exciting!

      • A plot thread I’m waiting to hear more about is why the hell clow reed himself was so determined Sakura shouldn’t be with syaoran?? He knows full well that they are 100% soul mates in whatever universe. So why he set honey trap with Yue and yukito??
I’m super happy about clamp covering nadeshiko family plot thread. It was mentioned by fujitaka she had powers like touyas in 1st part of ccs, now we are seeing this develop further than I could have imagined. I wonder if we’ll find out more about why nadeshiko died so young…
And we’ve had another mention of the Li family. The entire clan helped eriol in his sleuth work. Now I just need to see this famous li family and I will be very contented.

  10. Since this new CCS series was announced I’ve been wondering if CLAMP would finally reveal in full detail the connection between Tsubasa, Holic and CCS. Several months have passed and I haven’t seen any comments regarding this topic, so I was starting to think maybe that wasn’t going to happen. But, with this new chapter, I believe this issue might be addressed in the following chapters, so I want to share with you my theory and know what you think about it.
If we take ALL what happened in Tsubasa RC and ask ourselves what was the very beginning of it all, we get that the one to blame is no other than CLOW REED. The fact that the feathers were scattered, that Fye and Kurogane were involved, that they began the journey across dimensions, it was all because Fei Wang Reed wanted to fulfill his wish; and, at the end of TRC, we get told by Yuuko that Fei Wang was created due to Clow Reed’s strong, but unintentional, wish to bring Yuuko back to life. We hear all through the story that the arrangements made by Clow and Yuuko were in order to ‘end the dream’, the dream that is a taboo in CLAMPS universe, the dream to bring someone back from the dead.
In this chapter from CCS they talk about something that was a taboo, even among the strongest magicians, so I’m starting to make a connection here.
I’m not really sure what is the connection between the events in TRC and Sakura Kinomoto and Li Syaoran from CCS. At first I thought TRC’s Syaoran was the same person, since he was always addressed as a descendant of Clow Reed, and part of the Li family, and because he used the Rashinban and the same sword from CCS. But then it was revealed that he was the son of the reincarnated version of his cloned self and the reincarnated clone of princess Sakura (which for some unknown reason uses Sakura Kinomoto’s magic circle in the final battle).
This is the complicated twist created at the end of TRC, but, I am completely convinced that TRC’s Clow Reed is the very same person as CCS’s Clow Reed. Yuuko confirms it at the beggining of xxxHolic when Watanuki find a replica of Sakura Kinomoto’s first magic staff and she says it was created by an evil man for a cute little girl, or something like that….obviosly she was referring to Clow Reed. Also, in the book Mokona-Soel to Larg-Modoki, CLAMP tells us some stories from the time Clow was alive and how the two Mokona Modoki lived with Yuuko and sometimes they visited Clow’s house and played with Kerberos and Yue. Also, in TRC’s chapter 220, Yuuko tells how Clow travelled to the dimension of Clow Kingdom leaving behind those whom he loved, and there you can see a flashback of him in front of Yue and Kerberos. So there is no doubt Clow Reed is the very same in all of this.
Now, in CCS original manga we are told that one day Clow Reed no longer wanted to be the most powerfull magician in the world, so he faked his own dead and split himself in two…Eriol and Fujitaka…. and, at the end of CCS, Eriol splits Clow’s original magic power in two, leaving the other half to Fujitaka, so that he no longer is the most powerfull magician.
What I think is that, perhaps, 21 years ago CLAMP had no idea they would one day create a new story based on CCS’s characters, but in 2003 maybe Okawa thought: “hey ,what if Clow Reed split not only in two, but in three….Eriol holding all the magic power, Fujitaka with no magic, and a Clow with no magic power who would travel to Clow Kingdom’s dimension to guide and protect the little princess Sakura”. I think this might be so since now we know, thanks to Yuuko, that Clow Reed came to regret his title as the most powerfull magician in the world because his power was so great that he could not control it, and that was the reason he stopped Yuuko’s time, Fei Wang was created and all the terrible things that happened to princess Sakura, Syaoran, Fye and Kurogane came to be.
Feeling guilty of all those things, he saw into the future and made the arrangements to ‘END THE DREAM’.
Here, at the end of Clear Card Arc chapter 22 Eriol says :
“She was able to collect the scattered Clow Cards and return them to their card forms, as well as change all of them into cards that draw from her own magic. However, it seems that wasn’t enough to finish things.”

What might he be taking about?? To finish what? What is it that he knows that has not been revealed yet?
Do we even know why he made Sakura collect the cards in the first place and then change them to her own?
When Sakura first opened the Clow Card Book and the cards were scattered, Kerberos told her she had to retrieve all of them to prevent terrible things from happening to the world….yes…but then againg, Clow Reed was able to see everything into the future (or almost everything, not sure…) so he knew Sakura would eventually disperse the cards (that is why he created a cute magic staff for a cute little girl, isn’t it?), then, why did he create the Clow Cards in the first place if he knew they could make such harm?.
Could it be all of this is part of his arrangements to ‘END THE DREAM’? And, maybe, that is the reason why Syaoran is so worried about all what has been happening in Clear Card Arc? Maybe, he knows something about the events in TRC, since he is a descendant of Clow Reed and a member of the Li family…
Why is it that we see in TRC that Sakura Kinomoto appears in a dream in front of the reincarnated version of princess Sakura clone, and gives her the Star Staff? She says:
“Even without the staff, the cards will still be right here with me. I believe in them.”

I think we deserve an explanation and maybe now the time has come for CLAMP to reveal it in CCS Clear Card Arc.

Well…that is my theory… so let me know what you think!
    Sorry for the long post.

mmm i have also been wondering how they will do the connection… IF trc/holic does tie into clear card i feel like CLAMP have been very careful and sensitive with how they go about it. there certainly have been trc/holic vibes pulsing away in the deep background through this arc what with the time theme, the taboo, and the strong fai D flourite links too with the crystals and that D sorcerer society- sounds like something fai could get heavily involved with if the twc trio are in town!
then of course there is that famous (or infamous depending how one looks at it) scene with sakura and mama sakura ( trc) meeting in the dream world. now in that scene kinomoto looks a little older and her hair is longer too! something that was mentioned by meiling li in episode 13 no less! 😀 she literally gives over her staff to mama sakura and says she knows the cards will be alright. this clear card arc has been all about the missing staff and cards, so i wondered if someone is trying to interfere or stop her from meeting mama sakura to do the big hand over- just a passing “i wonder if…” thought i had.
so IF tsubasa li, watanuki, and sakura kinomoto are the 3 who will end things it’s likely someone will interfere knowing kinomoto is a vital part. afterall its because of her that tsubasa gets to travel to clow country in the first place right? so without that price he would never get to meet princess sakura . and ultimately he’d never stop fei wong reed either without that meeting, so sakura really is the golden ticket forward right?
but i have absolutely no idea whatsoever where ccs fits in timeline wise. is it before tsubasa li goes traveling to clow country or after he defeats fei wong reed? or is it both at the same time?? is it yuuko who owns the wish shop now or is it watanuki? @ @;;;; my head hurts cause im thinking too much about it again.
Either way that scene happened, and it was such a small yet massive moment in the story- to find out sakura kinomoto was involved and maybe even pulling some major strings behind the scenes along with yuuko and clow reed. it just cant be left! theres no way CLAMP can simply leave that plot thread alone and brush it under the rug. that scene and relation with the sakuras deserves an explanation if not a more developed story showing that moment in more detail. or the time leading up to that revelation for sakura kinomoto.
and then there is that toy sealing wand in yuukos treasure room too. both these tiny yet huge OMG scenes in holic and trc need and deserve to be explained. i think it would tie up a massive amount of plot holes in holic and especially trc. it might even throw the entire trc into a different light and make for a very different and more satisfying read!

omg i actually forgot about that ominous warning from kero! 😮 i always thought it was something to do with the clow cards not having a master so they become bad things to the world what with being untamed beings and all… but you may be onto something there! clow reed really must have been thinking and hoping that sakura would be enough to stop everything. thats why he so very carefully set up a pre determined step by step plan right down to how she would find the clow book to how she would defeat yue! but i wonder if he planned ahead after sakura had transformed the cards into sakura cards?

  11. Just a quick comment, 15 days late, because I hate leaving holes in something I decided to do XD
I was particularly impressed that in the end Masaki did call the doctor and had Sakura checked. I mean, usually these kind of things are left behind or conveniently ignored, in manga, instead here they made it happen despite Sakura’s “no need for that”. It seems pretty reasonable and it added a bit of tension, like “wow, things look so bad that they had to call a doctor”. Well, they found that child lying unconscious on the floor, it’s only normal.
Sakura’s warning to Syaoran was all I wanted to see. I mean, we don’t know how much she knows, she probably only noticed he’s hiding something, but her warning raised the tension quite a bit. Like “B*tch I know you’re hiding something, now, you can spill the beans right away or things are gonna get complicated between us” (not really but you get my point XD). As some people pointed out, this was totally a parallel and at the same time the contrary of what happened in episode 13 of the anime. In the anime, Sakura knows Syaoran is hiding something, but chooses to not put pressure on him. I say it’s only a matter of time, and when the anime will reach the Nadeshiko Arc, Sakura will probably be in a situation in which she’ll make the direct question.
All the revelations about Kaito were very interesting, so maybe the word Kaito really is a pun with the japanese word Kaitou, mysterious thief. Who knows. I can’t wait to know more of it. Glad to see the Li family was mentioned again and actually helped Eriol with the info on Kaito. They seem more and more like a mafia family or something, they could arrive where Eriol couldn’t himself XD
I can’t wait to read the rest of the conversation Eriol, Yue and Kero are having. What does he mean, that it wasn’t over just with the capture and transformation of the Cards?? UUUHHH. There 2 weeks can’t pass by quickly enough.

    • Another thing, before I forget: how suspicious that they keep holding off the moment in which Akiho will visit Fujitaka’s library. Do you want my opinion on it? It’ll be the event that will cause the bubble to explode, and will take us to the climax.
