Nice color page with Yue and Kerberus we got there… they both look very different, very contemporary CLAMP art style. Kerberus’ eyes look kinder/less fierce and Yue looks like he came out of GATE 7.

So the mysterious cloaked figure is riding and commanding the snakey thing that we saw at the end of last chapter, as if the cloaked figure were its master, hummm. Sakura is drawn to it/them, or rather, the new key seems to be attracted to both the creature and the mysterious figure, bringing Sakura closer to them. The mysterious figure’s clothes match the key so it definitely seems like the mysterious figure is the master of that key.

Sakura then wakes up and we found out that she was having a dream within a dream (very XXXHOLiC, very CLAMP, very Ohkawa).

Am I the only one who thinks Kero looks weird? I noticed this last chapter but I decided to wait a bit longer. He definitely looks weird. He looks ok on color pages, though. Did Nekoi lost her touch in drawing him?

The new key materializes itself from the dream world to the real world. We learned from XXXHOLiC that if one holds on an item within a dream, one can retrieve same item to the real world.

Sakura is worried at breakfast and Fujitaka obviously notices it and that reminds him of the fact that he hasn’t seen Nadeshiko as of lately, and he wonders if that’s a good or a bad sign… I had to remind myself that Fujitaka is now able to see Nadeshiko, I completely forgot about that.

On her way to school, Sakura is surprised by an unusual gush of wind. She can’t use her cards since they have lost their magic powers so instead, the new key turns itself into a beautiful new staff (slightly worried with the amount of CG used in this scene).

Sakura realizes by herself that using the usual incantation won’t work with this staff so she come up with a new one by herself (suspicious). That also goes to show she is more powerful than ever now.

The new incantation works and Sakura seals, or rather, secures the gush of wind, which turns out to be a new card called GALE! What’s up with all the fragments? Is the same ones from Sakura’s dream…

The new card design is so beautiful with its transparent factor. This must be a challenge to draw and soon animate it and manufacture it (if they ever plan on releasing them). The design of the card itself is very similar to Clow and Sakura’s — same magic symbols, 4 elements and the sun, the moon and stars. Only the design of the card’s identity looks completely different. While Clow and Sakura’s card have human appearance, this new card seems to have the appearance of entity. The little mechanic wings and gears remind me of CLOVER =)

“Gale” is a synonym for “wind” and surely that was intentional? Are we going to deal with counterparts of Clow and Sakura’s cards? Also, notice how it’s just “GALE” and not “THE GALE” like it is with Clow and Sakura’s cards.

Tomoyo freaks out that she wasn’t able to record Sakura capturing/securing the card, but for a sec there, Syaoran looks slightly alarmed that Tomoyo might have figured something out. That goes to show just how Syaoran knows a lot more of what’s going on than he says he does.

Did anybody else notice that the outfit Tomoyo made for Sakura is the same one from the promotional illustration for the Clear Card arc? 🙂

So Sakura and Syaoran can only sense Sakura’s powers coming from the card and the key, hummm… either the sorcerer who made them is disguising their powers really well, or……………. Sakura herself made them.

Then, we found out that Eriol was avoiding Sakura just like we thought. He calls Syaoran (!) and he fills Eriol in concerning the latest developments. Syaoran then says he knows what he has to do… he looks so sad when he says that =(

Before I finish this, I just want to say that I slightly uncomfortable with the thickness of the lines here. Sometimes they look too thick for CCS, almost not looking like CCS. Sometimes everything looks the same and there is no contrast between background and foreground and characters. See page 28 where we get to see GALE full frontal, it looks rather messy with the magic symbol in the back and Sakura and Kero in the front, you can’t really distinguish what is what. Maybe I’ll get used to it, or maybe it’ll look better on print — it always does.

Another set of 34 pages this time. 107 pages so far for volume 1, which means we are slightly over half of it. Next chapter will be next month.

  1. Syaoran and Eriol seem to know something together and still not telling Sakura… Just hoping they would reveal something about the transparent cards soon because it’s only suspension.

    • I guess it’ll be revealed soon. Not the whole plot, obviously, but soon Sakura will realize Syaoran is being weird and Eriol is avoiding her.

    • I did, since Chapter 1, and it’s bothering me… This isn’t Tsubasa! I don’t know if they’re being careless or if there’s a reason behind this.

Agree, and I still really like Kerberos, while I find Yue too young….but it’s so great to see them together in their real forms, they always look so cool and they give a vibe of “things are getting serious so we’ll protect our mistress” ❤

No, you’re not the only one…I indeed believe Nekoi got a little bit lost on Kero’s design, or maybe this is all intentional…he looks more like a plushie now, to me.

Sakura realizes by herself that using the usual incantation won’t work with this staff so she come up with a new one by herself (suspicious). That also goes to show she is more powerful than ever now.
I was surprised as well. Either this means she grew up a lot and became wiser magically speaking, or…suspicious indeed.

Yeah this really intrigues me. It’s like some things about the card are the same, but many details are different, in order to make a deep cut with the past.

Syaoran looks slightly alarmed that Tomoyo might have figured something out
Indeed, if Syaoran doesn’t want anyone to know what is going on yet, he must be very careful with Tomoyo. She’s very clever and got a good intuition, and I think he began wondering about her since the ” because you’re here with her” line in last chapter. She’s definitely going to find out, anyway. Nobody can escape Tomoyo’s intuition when it comes to people and their intentions toward Sakura.

Then, we found out that Eriol was avoiding Sakura just like we thought. He calls Syaoran (!) and he fills Eriol in concerning the latest developments. Syaoran then says he knows what he has to do… he looks so sad when he says that =(
I personally find amusing this collaboration between Eriol and Syaoran. Just remembering how Syaoran felt toward him in Sakura Card arc…it makes me giggle. But I giggle less when I realize that for them to team up, it means that something BIG is around the corner. Whether that is in a good or bad way, it will still be something big involving Sakura.
Also, let me note that Kero-chan always said that as long as Sakura wasn’t frightened by her foretelling dreams, everything was ok and there was no need to worry. Now, she really seems upset and kinda worried about her dream…this doesn’t look good.

while I find Yue too young

Hummm he does look young and more androgynous than ever! LOL @ “we’ll protect our mistress”, you bet!

No, you’re not the only one…I indeed believe Nekoi got a little bit lost on Kero’s design, or maybe this is all intentional…he looks more like a plushie now, to me.

Glad I’m not the only one. Sometimes he looks spot-on and sometimes he looks weirdly off. The black spot that is his nose sometimes is too big and his ears are weird also.

Nobody can escape Tomoyo’s intuition when it comes to people and their intentions toward Sakura.

Absolutely. Specially after re-watching the series, I had forgotten how SHARP she is. No wonder she’s Ohkawa’s favorite character from CCS. I wouldn’t be surprised if she confronted Syaoran (like you said in another comment, in her own gentle way) right in the next chapter. She might have pulled out that outfit excuse just because Sakura was there…

      Well reminded ! XD

  3. this totally reminds me of ccs 2nd movie with the sealed card stealing all the cards.
this hooded character is bugging me! is this character good or bad? or both?? either way, sakura is drawn to this person alays in her dreams. so is it an alternate version of her? could it be a similar threat thats in xxxholic rei with this newq so called dimensional witch, OR is it sakura herself from the future? like a corrupt version? we saw a corrupt syaoran in trc… so maybe we’ll see a corrupt sakura in ccs. lordi i hope not!! i dont want to see her as that? is sakura capable of being dark? although her magic is a balance of light and dark so i guess its possible. but whose to say that was a bad dream? maybe that dragon riding person is good, and is fighting something evil?
well whatever it is im LOVING the suspense.

  4. i wonder if nadeshiko is doing the same as eriol’s doing to sakura with his silent treatment, only with fujitaka…

    Like

    • That’s as good a guess as any, since Nadeshiko was in on Eriol’s plan during the Sakura Card arc, too. The fact that Nadeshiko approved of Eriol (that is, they saw each other and shared a smile together during the scene when Fujitaka reconciles with Masaki Amamiya) was an early sign that all the secrecy was for Sakura’s benefit.

      • Good point! Fujitaka is not the same as he used to be, though. He has half of Clow’s powers so I wonder why he hasn’t been able to see her… he must be missing his wife, poor husband!

  5. I knew that was going to be a dream sequence. Chibiyuuto, you owe me a dollar!

Are we going to deal with counterparts of Clow and Sakura’s cards? Also, notice how it’s just “GALE” and not “THE GALE” like it is with Clow and Sakura’s cards.

Ahaha, maybe Ohkawa felt the extra particle wasn’t grammatically correct? But adding “The” to the Cards’ names was a clear reference to the Thoth Tarot, and along with the fact that this new card has a more mechanical, violent design than its Clow counterpart, these might be clues suggesting that there’s something wrong with the Clear Cards. Right off the bat, GALE is much more vicious than THE WINDY — remember how she went back into the book on her own, right after Sakura became the Cardcaptor? Meanwhile, the first Clear Card is a giant mosquito with knives for wings that attacks Sakura on her way to school!

Another thing: Clow and Sakura’s magic circles were marked with the four cardinal directions. This new circle has them replaced with the four elements (Earth/Water/Fire/Wind), and the way the characters are drawn strongly resemble the four elements on Syaoran’s rashinban. The new circle has also completely done away with all the other miscellaneous symbols surrounding Clow and Sakura’s circles.

Another thing: If you look closely at the first color promo for the Clear Card arc, the cherry blossom petals surrounding Sakura are getting absorbed by (or are constructing) the Clear Cards. What do you think that means, hmm?

Anyway, it would be a big and interesting twist if the “antagonist” this time was some interdimensional variant of Sakura. It might explain why Eriol’s willing to talk to Syaoran about it, but not Sakura — telling Sakura directly could exacerbate the problem, so telling someone close to Sakura who’s capable of helping her would work around that issue. Weird that Eriol isn’t answering Sakura’s calls just to lie to her and tell her that he doesn’t know what’s going on, though.

    • It would be very interesting if it’s a bad version of Sakura, alternate version or actual version. We’ve seen corrupt syaoran in trc, and we’ve seen syaoran fighting with himself… Well sort of, with clone vs tsubasa li. Now it’s sakuras turn.

      • Say, you know how Sakura’s new staff and circle center on one large star connected to smaller stars at its points? Sakura’s Star Staff was emblematic of how she had come to draw power from her own star, right? Maybe the problem here is one version of Sakura drawing power from other versions of herself across dimensions.

        Like

        • Great theory, I like that. A version of Sakura drawing power from other versions of herself would mean an insane, enormous amount of power all concentrated in one magician. Scary, very scary.

        • mmhhh…

I confess I’m not really into this theory: we already had a lot of ‘versions’ of Sakura and Syaoran to deal with in TRC, while this is what of the factors that made the series so thrilling and intriguing, I’m not sure I want to have a repeat of that in CCS too, especially since we already know that CCS and TRC Sakura will meet at some point (to give away her wand), so there is already an established connection between 2 different Sakura(s) and, for her to offer her wand, it *also* means that she is aware of the situation in TRC = CCS|Sakura must know about the ‘other’ Sakura (=aka princess Tsubasa); and your theory would add yet one more to the count, who would have a wand and would have reached out to her through a Dream for an unknown reason…?

The other thing, is that from my personal understanding: the more powerful a person is, the less counterparts they are likely to have in other dimensions, look how Clow and Yuuko are unique, and honestly, if it wasn’t for the whole cloning thing (+twisted Logic, Space and Time), TRC Sakura and Syaoran too wouldn’t have had other versions of themselves either…so I’m having a hard time considering there is another Sakura with a key and cards too!

            • There is more than three:
              -CCS Sakura: Sakura Kinomoto
-TRC Sakura: clone made with magic, ‘killed’ by Clone Syaoran
-TRC Sakura: reborn in new world and became Sakura Li
              -TRC Sakura: princess Tsubasa
-Holisuba Sakura: twins > both girls are in Junior High School, and their little sister in Elementary school is also “Sakura” (revealed this april 2016, when CLAMP was playing around with the whole Detective Agency thing)

The count is at … SEVEN! D: No more please!

              Like

              • Though, well: your three count is not wrong either if you leave aside Holitsuba (which is not really a “series” but more like a spin off world CLAMP play with once in a while hahaha~) and also if you consider that Clone Sakura and her reborn self are one person (which I don’t agree with: Fujitaka and Eriol also have Clow’s memories+soul+magic, but they are three different people. I personally believe it also applies to Sakura: the reborn Sakura Li also have memories+soul, but she led a different life from her clone self…).

                Like

            • As CLAMP’s demonstrated in the past, they’re totally okay with increasing the Sakura count regardless of what we readers might want!

          • We already know that CCS and TRC Sakura will meet at some point (to give away her wand), so there is already an established connection between 2 different Sakura(s) and, for her to offer her wand, it *also* means that she is aware of the situation in TRC = CCS|Sakura must know about the ‘other’ Sakura (=aka princess Tsubasa)

Well, technically, there isn’t. You would have had to have read TRC to the end to know about CCS Sakura’s deal with TRC Sakura, and I think there’s less overlap between the TRC and CCS readerships in Japan than there is abroad, so CLAMP/their editors can’t assume that Nakayoshi readers know about the events in TRC. As such, the connection — along with the idea that there’s more than one Sakura across universes — hasn’t been established in CCS proper yet.

Frankly, I’m not sure how CLAMP is going to introduce TRC Sakura (if they’re going to include that scene at all) without bringing up alternate dimensions earlier in the arc. Having CCS Sakura meet her counterpart and hand over her old staff out of the blue would be kind of abrupt and emotionally empty.

The more powerful a person is, the less counterparts they are likely to have in other dimensions, look how Clow and Yuuko are unique, and honestly, if it wasn’t for the whole cloning thing (+twisted Logic, Space and Time), TRC Sakura and Syaoran too wouldn’t have had other versions of themselves either

We don’t know for sure why Yuuko and Clow are unique (and Yuuko’s the only character confirmed to be unique across universes, which could just be due to her centralizing role as the Dimension Witch). And TRC Sakura and Syaoran have always had their CCS counterparts as alternate versions of themselves, sans any warping of space-time.

            • Well, you guys do have a point! There are a lot of versions of Sakura around already and introducing another Sakura in CCS aside from Sakura Li from TRC, would result in being quite redundant (to say it kindly). I love Sakura so I personally wouldn’t be bothered too much, but I understand you and even I would go “what, another one?” upon finding out such a development in the future.
and I think there’s less overlap between the TRC and CCS readerships in Japan than there is abroad
What Panicle is saying here is true, and it’s not only a matter of age target, which is obviously different between the two stories.
I have personally read around in Japanese BBS that the most fierce CCS japanese fans (especially those who are a little bit too obsessed with it) usually can’t stand any comparison between Sakura from TRC and Sakura from CCS, they usually haven’t read TRC past the first chapters and generally don’t consider TRC!Sakura a real Sakura at all. They say she’s not cute.
They also are fearing that CLAMP will link the two stories (even if technically the link already exist, at least in Tsubasa) thus the connection that Panicle said hasn’t been established in CCS yet, is the thing those fans are fussing about the most.

              • Hi there sakura84 ^_^

Introducing a new Sakura would indeed be very repetitive for us, TRC readers, who read for years a series in which we saw countless counterparts…
It is still an option though, one I am not too motivated about, but I am not talking hate here ^^; I’ve been a HUGE fan of TRC for countless years, still reading it and welcoming any new arc CLAMP might grace us with, and I think TRC Sakura and Syaoran have their very own charms ^^ But I confess I am also not too much in a hurry to see any crossovers at this point, I would really like it if CLAMP would focus only on CCS alone for a while!

Thanks for sharing the POV of japanese fans~

All in all, what I want to see the most is SxS relationship (grace us with some mushyness, CLAMP! Even though I know it’s hard for you…), more info about the new cards, and what are Eriol and Syaoran plotting…

                Like

              • Thanks for the insight, Sakura84. Considering the readership gap, I’m wondering if CLAMP is going to forego having that scene between CCS Sakura and TRC Sakura altogether (whether they do a giant retcon or just leave it out).

                Like

            • Well, I confess having answered ‘lightly’ to your theory without entering much in details, my points was simply that there was already several Sakura and that TRC’s plot went around counterparts all along, so I’m not really motivated to see this concept repeated again in CCS. I completely ignored any further thoughts I had about the subject to be honest! ^^;

It is indeed not a given that CCS fans would also know about TRC, and CLAMP should logically take that into consideration and make CCS a standalone series for everyone to understand…is what I would like to say, but CLAMP making crossovers between their series is their favorite hobby ^^; If they decide to connect both series, I don’t think anything will stop them…
Personally, I’m fine either way, but right now, I would really like them to focus only on CCS plot alone, and not bring up any crossovers at the moment.

As for that infamous encounter between the 2 Sakura, as I said to chibiyuuto in a post I wrote a couple of months back, there are 3 versions of events in TRC:

-Clone|SxS were given a 2d chance in life and were reborn in a new world as “sakura Kinomoto” and “syaoran li” and meet again after 14 years in HK, where Sakura’s school trip took place.

              >>in the first version of events, Syaoran|Tsubasa is the son of Sakura&Syaoran Li, nonetheless, he leaves his world and go to Clow Country for 7 days (his mother pays Yuuko for those 7 days with the Star Wand). At the end of those 7 days, tragedy strikes: princess Sakura is cursed by Fei Wang Reed! But the 7 days have ended…so Syaoran|Tsubasa is returned to his own world covered in wounds…
He returns to Clow Country after his wounds are healed, and his payment for that wish: he cannot return to his own world until there exists in Clow Country someone who can cross dimensions…
He vows to find a way to save princess Sakura, and 7 years pass by….The princess is slowly dying, and in those 7 years, and in spite of his best efforts, Syaoran|Tsubasa didn’t find a way to get rid of that seal of death cursing her!
And then, as you know, he rewinds his own time back seven years, using his ‘time’ with Sakura, his ‘relationship’ with everyone, and his ‘freedom’ as a price. and TRC story begins in chapter 1 with the clone made by FWR replacing him and so on etc….

              >>Now, let’s talk about what happens after those 7 days in his original world > Watanuki was born when Syaoran decided to turn back Time by 7 years (meaning, we are back again right at the end of those infamous 7 days…), when Syaoran|Tsubasa is gone for an indefinite amount of time from his own world: he is “erased” and the void he left behind is filled by Watanuki, who becomes SxS child: what should have been one became two, Watanuki and Syaoran|Tsubasa are the same person, but they are also 2 different individual entities. They are different in name and in appearance, their parents wanted it to be that way so that neither one of them would be erased: his father, Syaoran Li, changed his family name and even his appearance in order to keep him hidden. To protect him from harm, Syaoran Li gave him the name Watanuki Kimohiro : a fabricated name containing his son’s own birthday in it, because names and date of births are very important. Thank to that, he wasn’t discovered by FWR and used for his dark purposes…
But as you know, it didn’t end here: Watanuki’s parents “died” protecting him, or so he thought, but they were in reality gone of that World all together: Syaoran and Sakura Li rewind their own time (assuming the forms both of them were in before reincarnation), and are trapped in a ‘different world’ (the tube seen at the beginning of the manga, said tube seems to be a heirloom of the Li clan, maybe a creation of Clow Reed?), unable to touch one another. We see them later on in the final battle against FWR, in which both vanishes and are reduced to feathers.
Now, what of Watanuki? Left behind, he agrees to trade all of his past memories (excluding his name and birthday, but including the encounter with Yuuko) to Yuuko to gain the whereabouts of the original “Sakura” and the other Sakura. And then, XXXHolic manga starts, with him entering the shop for the “first time” (even though it’s truly the 2d time).

              >>And now comes the 3rd version: when FWR was defeated and Logic and Time were restablished: both Syaoran|Tsubasa and Watanuki (which are the same person…) became unstable existences, rejected by the Universe. One ended up having to travel through worlds forever while searching for a dimension and bodies for his parents, while the other was confined in the store and became the new owner, waiting for Yuuko to come back.
In both cases, the first and second versions of events ceased to exist all together: all that’s left of them both, are 2 unstable beings, struggling to live…

As far as CCS is concerned, it simply goes like this: both Sakura(s) met briefly through a Dream, before TRC|Sakura sent her son for 7 days to Clow Country in ‘version 1’. We saw in xxxholic that if you forget an object inside a dream, or keep it in your hands while waking up, this object stays with you (or is left in the dream), I believe this is how the wand was given away. In CLAMP universe, dreams can connect people through Space (aka people from different worlds) and also through Time (remember how many times Watanuki met doumeki’s grandfather…). Said Dream World also appeared in X.
Clamp didn’t elaborate, but it doesn’t seem like they consider these dreams encounters as “traveling through dimensions” or “Time travel”.

Now, said moment in time in which the exchange was done was erased afterwards, replaced by other events, this time involving Watanuki instead of Syaoran. So following that logic: CCS|Sakura did not give her wand ‘anymore’, but, years after, said wand is still stored inside the shop as seen in chapter167 of xxxholic… NONETHELESS, in said chapter 167, Logic and Time were still twisted! At that moment, FWR hadn’t been defeated yet…We did not see the Star Wand inside the shop after the end of TRC, when FWR was gone and the Logic back to normal = does the meeting between the two Sakura actually still exist or not?
Else, should we think about it this other way: a grown up card mistress Sakura (but still a student though) met with Sakura Li, timeline wise, it would mean that the moment in time in which it happened, “version 1 of event” hasn’t been erased yet, those 2 Sakura met before the 7 days occurrence > the simplest explanation would be that “version 1 of event” overlaps with CCS’s time (Time flows differently in different dimensions after all).

All in all, it really depend on how CLAMP are planning to handle this situation: they messed with Logic, Time and Space, and because of that, some things obviously became a bit confusing.
I will be waiting to see what CLAMP decides to do about it: include that meeting? Not include it? Does said meeting still exits or not? At the moment, I am more curious about the actual happenings in the chapters (I want to know what Syaoran is thinking!! :D), but I will keep this in the back of my mind ^_^

About the “The more powerful a person is, the less counterparts they are likely to have in other dimensions”, I wrote that “from my personal understanding”, from what I’ve read and know so far about CLAMP’s universe…

Yes, good points there. I’m looking forward to the other names and hey, I personally didn’t even know the word “GALE” up to now XD I might learn some new vocabulary out of these fancy synonyms.

Yes. Clow’s circle also has 4 kanjis… do you know if they stand for the 4 elements? Yuuko’s magic circle also has 4 symbols that I’m pretty sure stand for the 4 elements, and they appear in Rayearth as well, the same ones.

Hummm I never gave much thought into it… I thought it was just for illustration purposes but it could mean something. I’ll keep that in mind.

The four kanji on Clow’s magic circle are 北 (North), 東 (East), 南 (South), and 西 (West). Yuuko’s circle has the Rayearth elemental symbols and the signs of the Zodiac.

  6. Thanks for sharing and for your review too, it’s always a pleasure to read what you think about each chapter ^_^

What most surprised me in this whole chapter was the fact Nadeshiko might actually have a role to play in the story! I mean, she is dead, and as a ghost I’m not too sure how CLAMP are planning to make her intervene, or more like, no, I can guess: she will very likely appear in the World of Dreams…but to so what? that’s to be seen…
As for Fujitaka, him being the reincarnation of Clow Reed and not only having all his memories but also half of his immense powers didn’t change the relation between father and daughter: it doesn’t seem like that in the year and a half that passed since the end of the events of the 1st series, those 2 talked about anything magic related…though we can at least see that know he is aware that ‘something is happening’.

Other than that, very interesting Card’s design! 😀 CLAMP definitely thought it through, I didn’t imagine they would make something like that at all ^_^

But I am not too sure where they are going at the moment, everything feels random for now; a random attack that made her catch a random card, meeting a cloaked figure in a dream together with a random giant snake like creature that had no real role to play either…
All in all, I am patiently (and happily) waiting to see more, and where this is all taking us: will these cards be the property of Sakura in the end? Who is this mysterious person in her dreams and what does he/she wants from her? What does Syaoran and Eriol know, and what is Syaoran’s unfortunate role (‘unfortunate’ from how sad we’ve seen him until now…) in this story?

    • i hope his “unfortunate role” isnt separating from sakura for her sake. god i really really hope not, cause im enjoying finally seeing them as an official couple. and seeing how they flow together in that role. (which i wana see more of!) ❤
i would love to see fujitaka and nadeshiko as major players or secondary players in the magical team line up. and it'd be interesting to see fujitaka and eriol interact too.
as for the ccs/trc link, im happy with it JUST being ccs world. but i am intrigued in this link. and if we actually do see this connection, it might subtly close some loose end with trc. but i dont want it messing with ccs. i prefer not comparing the sakuras. i like seeing them as different characters/ personalities. then i dont dislike anything about the trc pair, cause ccs sakura is my fave!

      • I most definitely hope that whatever secret Syaoran is keeping from Sakura, it will not affect their relationship! I waited for their reunion forever! But I honestly do not think anything bad will happen: all in all, Syaoran is definitely doing what is best, even if it might be something he is not too happy to hide from her, and do…

I don’t know about any connection between CCS and TRC, but while it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see it happen, and I will be fine with it, but I’m also not in a hurry for it to happen either.
Right now, I just want to know more about the new cards, and what are Eriol and Syaoran plotting!

Oh god please no -_- I hate plot twists like that. They’re so typically shoujo that I’m almost nauseated by them. And Syaoran was so positive when Sakura said “we’ll be together forever”, he didn’t flinch a single bit, so I’m inclined to believe that something like that won’t happen.
I’m all for introducing more serious matters into CCS, because they are a little bit older and things and relationships become more complicated as you grow up (that is, they have more facets). So be it, CLAMP can introduce a sprinkle of jealousy, a little bit of insecurity, I’m even ok with seeing Sakura being a little bit shaken if she eventually finds out that Syaoran lied or omitted things for her own sake, but I won’t tolerate if they tear them apart. TRC is well enough thank you very much.
BUT THIS IS A CLAMP STORY, so who knows. -_-

        • It looks like my unfortunate use of words put you both into a panic ^^;

CCS is definitely not your typical shoujo, and I am really not expecting anything like a separation, no way!!
I also don’t think we will be getting any jealousy in there either, it’s an established fact that Sakura and Syaoran love each other ❤ but, depending on what Eriol and Syaoran are hiding, and more precisely this thing he has to do and makes him look both determined and sad, we might get to see Sakura feeling shaken by it, and even betrayed when she realizes he very likely did something to the pink bear she lovingly handmade for him…

But don't worry ladies, I think our SxS ship is sailing just fine, and while it might encounter some waves, its should keep going on its way just fine in spite of the disturbances 😉

Now! What truly worries me is that CLAMP, who are not the biggest fans of romance…, won't be giving us any fluff between the two!

          • Nah don’t worry, your use of words was just fine ^_^ I just took the occasion to point out my opinion about a theory that sometimes comes up among the worries of the SxS shippers! But I don’t believe it either ;D

I also don’t think we will be getting any jealousy in there either, it’s an established fact that Sakura and Syaoran love each other❤
and that’s for sure! If we can count on anything, it’s precisely that one single truth!
What I meant by “jealousy” was a precise feeling that I’m curious to see: although when she was younger, Sakura was pretty much unable to feel jealousy toward anyone (even Syaoran, when it concerned Yukito), I’d like to see if she would feel it now that she’s found The One True Love. And I don’t mean that kind of obsessive jealousy, the one that usually isn’t healthy, or distrustful…just an initial lack of confidence because of inexperience, that would make her realize just how much he is important in her life…
And of course, I would love to see Jealous Syaoran just once again, hahah! 😛 He was so cute!

we might get to see Sakura feeling shaken by it, and even betrayed when she realizes he very likely did something to the pink bear she lovingly handmade for him…
I actually want to see that happening…I want to see a moment where there are “waves”, as you called it, in their relationship, just to come out of that moment stronger as a couple and united against whatever is coming their way!

What truly worries me is that CLAMP, who are not the biggest fans of romance…, won’t be giving us any fluff between the two!
THAT is really something we should worry about… >_>

            • Did you already pre-order the october issue of Nakayoshi? I did 3 days ago ^^ It’s just a reminder in case you forgot (well, truth is, I don’t know if you are still planning to buy more magazines or not ^^;)

I would like to see more facets of their characters and relationships: in both TRC and CCS, the main subject is obviously magic and the many events related to it (which I very much enjoy too ^_^) but I would also like for CLAMP to give them some space to breath, to give them a few ‘slow’ moments, slice of life moments (other than 5min conversations in front of their school…), in which we could just see them interact with each other and show us their growth, their thoughts, their feelings, without any catastrophe or drama falling on us!
I think this was one of the many charms of CCS: those times in which we could just see the characters interacting with each other, whether it was Sakura being invited to Tomoyo’s house for tea and to try out clothes, doing grocery shopping, eating ice cream together outside or going to a festival and play in the many booths there, I hope to see more of this with Sakura and Syaoran together ^_^

I agree with all that you said above, I also want to see them in few slow moments, I think it’s very important. Do you realize that, in 3 chapters, we didn’t see Sakura with any different clothes other than the uniform and pajama? This is a big change with the past, I wonder if it means anything at all?

That’s absolutely right! Independently from Tomoyo’s battle costumes, Sakura’s everyday wardrobe was very extensive too…and if I’m not mistaken: CLAMP drew a different pajama for her each time they showed her in her room!
But we only saw the characters in school uniform: and said uniform is something CLAMP designed 16 years ago, at the end of the 1st series…
Nonetheless, since these chapters were mainly focused on the dream world, the new wand and the cards, I will give CLAMP a break and wait a bit long before passing a judgement on that ^__^

I am expecting a lot from the next chapters! 😀

    • Late reply (busy week!) but thanks as usual for your comment and thoughts. It gives me great pleasure to see some of you using my website as a platform for discussing CLAMP theories (it’s one of its goals).

It’s gonna be interesting how Fujitaka will interact with Sakura now that he knows more stuff. And it’s about time we see Nadeshiko appearing more. Sakura is already powerful enough to see her, I wonder what is stopping her from seeing her (maybe the same thing that’s preventing her from appearing to Fujitaka…).

together with a random giant snake like creature that had no real role to play either…

At first I thought the snakey thing would be a card but GALE turned out to be just a really strong wind and its true form has nothing to do with the snakey dragonesque thing. So I wonder what that was….

  7. As for now, I’m suspecting if the mysterious figure might be someone related to Clow Reed/Sakura that live in the past as powerful magician just like Clow Reed himself.

First, Sakura being able to immediately know about the staff’s incantation is suspicious and made me think that perhaps that mysterious figure is Sakura that lives in the past as magician like Clow Reed and that key originally belong to that ‘past Sakura’, so when she reincarnated into Sakura Kinomoto (like Clow to Fujitaka, without her past memories) and found the key, she probably is kind of “exposed” by the key’s magic and able to use her new staff because she probably ever used it in the past, which explains as to why her new staff “obey” her incantation. And if that mysterious figure is also related to Clow Reed, that means it’s a clue to as why Eriol seems to know about what happened. Probably that mysterious figure wants Sakura to inherit their power through the new clear cards that Sakura should capture, since the cards are now need a new master just like Clow Cards.

Of course this theory might be wrong and I myself really not into “another Sakura” that ever life as powerful card magician in the past. But considering CLAMP seems to love to make another Sakuras……

I do hope the Sakura Cards would be useful again though. Hopefully they’ll have further role in this arc. Right now they’re useless and I don’t think it would be fun if all 19 of them got completely replaced by new cards in term of spotlight, I would miss them. #personalwish
It has been a while to me to see the Sakura cards in manga got additional star accessories or shape-change like The Shield. I mean, they’re beautiful such as the addition of The Watery’s scale choker and star earrings. Can I see them again?

And The Mirror too and its hair ribbons, right? Yeah, that was so nice, I hope we’ll see more of that too ^^

      • Yes! The story of The Mirror getting her ribbon only exists in anime though, so she don’t have her ribbon in manga. I’m so curious about this Gale Card too. Looks like a powerful and quite an aggressive card, but how Sakura sealed (secured) it makes it looks easy. Usually when she capturing strong card like this, she need to use her card to assist her, so when she can easily turn Gale into a card by just using her new incantation is kind of suspicious to me, or it’s just Gale is actually more tame than what we have seen…

  8. Color title page once again. ^_^
Kero and Yue look so good. Cerberus look much less like another version of Rayaerth like he used to. I looks much nicer and much more fluffy. Same for Yue who’s hair look just out of a shampoo ad. XD

The fight against the dragon looks like a final fight preview to me. XD
    No Tokyo Tower though…

The antagonist’s really look like empty set of clothes….
Although, yeah, antagonists in Card Captor Sakura are usually hiding their faces in these dreams.

So an eight branch start with wings…
    Kero-chan didn’t feel anything special…

A card at last! She started the first chapter of the first series with two cards already, this time she was empty handed up to chapter 3. XD The rythme is much slower that it used to, but they had to reintroduce so much characters and concepts while tying in the stuff left aside at the last series.

So, new magic circle, a 12 branch start, half which lead to five branch starts, four with each element (wind, water, fire, earth) and the last two to moon and sun. Will Sakura make her own creatures to fit with the four elements? A new formula, a new choreography for the anime, surely. XD

Transparent card, so fancy, especially since you don’t see the other side when you know you should. I don’t see this being a problem for the anime, but that will surely be for a real live set of cards. Both Sakura and Xiaolang only feel Sakura’s power, so more than likely, Sakura’s ikiryou is behind it.

Xiaolang and Eriol are having secret talk, sounds like the problem is indeed coming from Sakura.
