Tsubasa TOKYO REVELATIONS Preview Session – First informations

So my dear pal Yoshiyuki-kun went to the Tsubasa TOKYO REVELATIONS Preview Session, held yesterday in Tokyo at the Kodansha Hall.

He fed me with some information about the talk show and the OAD itself, including some pictures of the venue and the goods he got.

To begin with, Yoshiyuki-kun took some pictures of the outside of Kodansha’s building, such an awesome building!

Once he got inside, however, his belongs were confiscated and they got his camera (which was expected when you’re dealing with CLAMP xD).

Due to the huge demand, the screening session, which was firstly supposed to be unique, was split into two: one at 13 PM and another at 16 PM. My friend attended the 13 PM one.

The entire event lasted approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, including the screening of the OAD, that happened first.

My friend really liked the OAD, he said the production quality was really good and he left there wanting to watch more. He hadn’t read the manga volumes consisting the Tokyo arc, so I couldn’t ask him how faithful to the original it was.

The last scene is Real Syaoran arriving to Yuuko’s shop. We see Watanuki for a split second, he’s wearing his apron (unlike the manga when he was coming back from Kohane’s place). It’s about to start raining.

After the OAD ended, the guests went on stage and the talk show begun.

It was mostly all about jokes with the seiyuus (specially Kurogane’s seiyuu, Inada), my friend told me that Namiwaka looked completely absent-minded, he even forgot the question they asked to all seiyuus. Inada expressed his outrage to Ohkawa regarding Kurogane’s current situation in the manga, and Namikawa told him to calm down XD

The actual amount of worthy information were few, but here are some of them:

– Ohkawa said that until the Tokyo Arc, the production of the Tsubasa anime was in charge of NHK, but it has changed to Kodansha and Production IG since (we already knew that, but it’s clear now that NHK has no involvement whatsoever).

– The producer was unsure whether to accept Tsubasa’s project or not, he joked the huge name of the project (Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations) scared him, and he considered rejecting it, but he eventually accepted the task after taking a look to the project’s content.

– The director Tada Shunsuke said that, in the anime version, Sakura’s hair color was more inclined to brunet/brown (cha-iro), and when he saw Mokona’s original illustrations, he decided to change it to light pink (Very smart choice, if you ask me). Mokona didn’t know about it and she thanked the director on stage for that.
(the reason why Sakura’s hair was brownish in the anime has to do with color graduation, but my friend couldn’t remember exactly what xD)

– If you thought the giant worms were too big, wait until you see the OAD xD Mokona said they were 1.5 times bigger than the ones from the manga, and she questioned the director whether the characters would be able to carry it home (for food), he said “Yes” xD

– The director also said they are making the OADs in a way so that they won’t look parallel to the anime.

– Everybody at the hall had to fill a question form. The questions were asking if you had watched the anime version of Tsubasa, if you had bought already the DVDs, pre-ordered the upcoming 2, which other anime titles you had bought so far and which ones were you planning to buy. Beneath, questions asking your thoughts on the OAD and your expectations for the next ones (very good idea, since they are still in production). The form also asked what did you think of the event (management, light, sound, etc).

– One of the questions of the form asked whether you were interested in a continuation, beyond the already announced 3 OADs. So yes, if the demand is big enough, a continuation is possible.

The people who attended were gifted with 3 giant cards of CLAMP in CARDLAND (their original size is bigger than a A4 paper!!).

The advertises for Tsubasa TOKYO REVELATIONS singles (both to be released on November 21st) and CLAMP in CARDLAND were also distributed at the event:

Last but not at all least, famitsu.com has posted a report with fantastic pictures over here (thumbs up to for this one! ^_^)

I found another report with a small pic over here.

This is probably the first report of many more to come, including CLAMP-PLA.NET’s one, which I’ll definitely post here. Hope you liked it!

Major thanks to , who provided the information, pictures and scans for the creation of this report *bows* Thanks mate, you rock!

  1. Wow, that Subaru/Kamui picture to the side of one of the Famitsu pictures…

Even as a diehard Sei/Sub fangirl, I want that picture!

The coloured Mokona-tachi picture is amazing.

I can’t wait to get my copy of the OAD. I really do hope they do one for each major arc from now on. If they miss mini arcs (if any like the ‘Lake Arc’ or the ‘Bunny World’ arc appear) then so be it but Infinity and Celes (and from the looks of it Nihon, too) are calling out for animation.

    • I know, I want that picture too!

I thought it was Subaru and Kamui from X but it’s actually the vampire twins. It looks gorgeous still!

      >but Infinity and Celes (and from the looks of it Nihon, too) are calling out for animation.

I agree, definitely. I think that if these DVDs sell well, there’s no reason not to make a continuation 🙂

      • Well, I’ve had mine preordered since I first could (although I am miffed that I have to buy both the regular AND the deluxe edition-if they’d done the OAD with the deluxe edition as well I would have been happier). And I’m sure lots of other obsessed CLAMP fans have done the same. And that’s outside of Japan. The Japanese sales should be good, too. Hopefully enough for them to produce more, anyway.

The Vampire Twins are amazing. That picture is so gorgeous…if no one scans that in after finding that card I will be heartbroken. I’m pretty sure the cards can’t be exported.

    • You liked it? Great! ^___^ There wasn’t much new information on the event (on the last one we had such revealing information), but it was cool ^^

      >The worms must be the size of ‘Dune’ ones xDDDD

As if they weren’t before! XD I find it cute that it was Mokona who realized the size different, since she’s the one who drew them ^___^

    >The last scene is Real Syaoran arriving to Yuuko’s shop.

So, it ends like the second book, the crying Sakura sketches were for OVA #2 after all.

    >One of the questions of the form asked whether you were interested in a continuation, beyond the already announced 3 OADs.

I’m all for it! (even if they don’t take that kind of vote into account). Specially if that keeps Tsubasa’s tankoubon steadily at a tank every other months. XD

    >If you thought the giant worms were too big, wait until you see the OAD xD Mokona said they were 1.5 times bigger than the ones from the manga

They blew them even bigger? I thought they were disgusting enough as is XD

    • You’re welcome, Tomoe-san!

      >So, it ends like the first book

Yeah, 150 pages for 25 minutes o.o a lot of pages (but I think it means the pace is quick enough).

      > the crying Sakura sketches were for OVA #2 after all.

      Yes, and Subaru’s as well.

      >I’m all for it! (even if they don’t take that kind of vote into account).

HAHAHA me too! When my friend told me that, I was like “WHAT DID YOU ANSWER? YOU ANSWERED ‘YES’, RIGHT?” XDDDDDDDD Yes, he said “Yes” xD

      >Specially if that keeps Tsubasa’s tankoubon steadily at a tank every other months. XD

      YES! PRESSURE on CLAMP XDDDDDDDD

Like I said some comments above, as long as they quick their current script-writer, I’m all for it ^_~ (she’s too cutie, that script-writer).

      >They blew them even bigger? I thought they were disgusting enough as is XD

I THOUGHT OF YOU WHEN HE TOLD ME THAT XD You hoped Ohkawa would cut them out but they got even bigger xD

      Like

      • I just knew you’d though of me when the giant worms were mentionned XD

Yoshiyuki-kun ansered “yes”? That was the right thing to do. *super serious face*

If they do countinue the OAD series, they may be able to do Infinity and Celes for a DVD each and release them for tankoubon 24 and 25 (although I’m note sure it would be possible for Infinity, maybe there’s just too many fight to make it fit in 22 minutes). As for what comes next, you guess is as good as mine.

And Sure, the OADs would lost all interest if they aren’t scripted by Ohkawa.

        • You think they can be that fast? Then the announcement should be made right after the release of tank 23 or earlier.

One thing is, I don’t think the 3rd OAD is the “conclusion” of the Tsubasa anime, anymore.

Whether they’ll animate Infinity, Celes or any other world, I don’t know, but I think there will be more after Tokyo.

          Like

          • >You think they can be that fast?

What else would be the point to ask the question to people that had seen only the first third of the story? And they already have a much more efficient survey to know if people are interested, the preorder for second and third DVDs. I mean, the first DVD was already uncanny high in the top seller list two months ago, the interest for the a decent Tsubasa anime is obvious.

So, can they be that fast? First, we had three tankoubon at two months from each other, they can postpond Tank 24 to July, we know they can. -_- Second, they are still early in the Tokyo part work, they can lengthen everyone’s contract for an Infinity, Celes and whatever part is to come. The team won’t be dealing with a new project anymore, they should be faster, and it took them three months to get it done, if they begin the same month that the last Tokyo DVD’s release they should be able to make it for June, if not May.

            >One thing is, I don’t think the 3rd OAD is the “conclusion” of the Tsubasa anime, anymore.

Clearly, another Tsubasa Whatever is in the making. ^_^ It paid off to boycott the anime series in the end. XD

            Like

            • Yeah, I guess you’re right xD

We can’t forget the fact that, if they plan to release the next ones with the tankoubons, they have to do it WHILE Tsubasa is being published xD So they have the entire 2009 to do it.

They might release more 3 DVDs that can come with, like, vols 26, 27 and 28, that’s enough time for them to check how well the sales for Tokyo Revelations were, Ohkawa to write the script and everything between.

And maybe release more 3 DVDs without the tankoubons, it would be the definitive ending.

      • Re: Just one question!

most likely theyll start with them leaving lecourt. they HAVE to show syao’s first breakdown, from his fight with the gryffin (flying lion monster). otherwise when he snaps again, infront of fai, we wouldnt really know, unless they flash back when kuro esplains it. but theres a better chance of them escaping from lecourt. because BT totaly screwed that up. there was absolutly NO EMOTION when fai used his magic to aide mokona in the second series. and there HAS to be angst, to prequel the *arm grab* scene.
