Let’s talk about this title page: it’s so cool and so different than a typical XXXHOLiC title page. We have a traditional Japanese screen (shoji) showing three different representations of the Fuuri, with CLAMP’s own interpretation behind it — which doesn’t particularly look like any of the three. Unlike other CLAMP works, like X and GATE 7, it’s very unusual seeing collages in XXXHOLiC and yet we have one here. This is what called my attention the most about this title page. Very nice indeed.

Continuing from the last chapter, the Fuuri arrives to the shop on a Full Moon night (I wonder if that’s going to be relevant at all). The Fuuri notices that Watanuki’s kekkai has been lifted specifically for its arrival and this time, however, Watanuki lifted on purpose knowing that the Fuuri would come. Watanuki’s clothes look so cool here. We know it’s a different moment from the last chapter because he is wearing different clothes and it’s no longer raining.

The negotiation/transaction starts between the two. The Fuuri asks for the Shuka and Watanuki asks for the price (the Zashiki Warashi-lookalike).

The Fuuri then shows the Zashiki Warashi-lookalike to Watanuki and he in turn shows the Shuka to the Fuuri, who seems really impressed by the “state/condition” of the Shuka and credits that due to the fact that it was created out of the purest entity that is Zashiki Warashi as the “incubator”. The Fuuri then adds that it is going to grow it into a Shuka like no other.

So, they make the exchange. The Shuka goes to the Fuuri and the Zashiki Warashi-lookalike returns to Watanuki.

Watanuki is very serious when he tells the Fuuri that the equal price for the wish was paid and asks the Fuuri to confirm that the “transaction” was made in a fair way, to which the Fuuri agrees. Watanuki then considered the transaction as finished and wishes the Fuuri that no misfortunes falls on its way back.

Ok, so it seems that everything is going according to Watanuki’s plan, at least so far… There is probably more to it and there was a lot of attention given to the words Watanuki told the Fuuri after the exchange was made concerning equal price and transaction finished.

We still don’t know what Watanuki wished for to Masaki and the price he paid for it, there is the crimson pearl, the rain dragon amber, Seoritsu-hime’s Book and the thing Watanuki asked Doumeki to do which uses his bow ring. Which ones of these will come into play next? I would say the wish that Masaki granted and Doumeki’s interference are my closest guesses, but it could be a combination of everything.

I want to say that Watanuki’s wish to Masaki had something to do with the Shuka, but at the same time, the Fuuri seemed impressed by it. Would it know if it was a hoax? It probably would know? But something tells me that the Fuuri will come back to the shop asking for a return/refund xD

Either way, Watanuki seems sure if what he doing this time around.
