CLAMP PREMIUM COLLECTION: X vols. 16 & 17 covers

The covers of volumes 16 and 17 of X for the CLAMP PREMIUM COLLECTION edition have been announced!

So, in the end, we did get Seishirou and Subaru, which was the most obvious choice. I thought CLAMP would surprise us and leave them for the final two but I guess sometimes they do choose the most obvious choice after all. Volume 16 is Seishirou’s volume, no question about that. There goes my hope to see Sakurazukamori Subaru, haha!

I really like the background with the pentagrams and how the covers are mirrored (not only the pentagrams but their pose, also). I don’t understand the kanjis written in Seishirou’s one (does anyone know?), and Subaru has the Big Dipper.

Seishirou’s one looks great! He looks great. Subaru looks a bit off to me, unfortunately.

So the only ones left now are Nataku and Kakyou. Will Nataku be the only one, along with Kamui in volume 1, that is in the same cover as the original edition? Kakyou makes more sense for 18.5.

We’re so close to the end of this fun ride… =/

Here’s the upcoming schedule for CLAMP PREMIUM COLLECTION of X:

October 4: vols 16 & 17
November 4: vols 18 & 18.5

  1. I agree that Subaru looks odd in this style (sigh, it didn’t translate that well for Arashi either in my opinion), but otherwise great looking covers, thank you for sharing!

I can’t figure out what the characters on Seishirou’s cover could be either, but it does look somewhat like an inverted version of the paper sutra Subaru is holding in his hand on his cover, at least to me, if that’s a possible clue.

  2. It seems that CLAMP chose to license out the 30th-anniversary designs of Kodansha USA of MKR to other markets instead of the CLAMP Premium Collection of MKR and they chose to keep the 2nd editions of their manga of Kodansha in print in Japanese in contrast to Kadokawa. I am interested in how well will Viz will handle the CLAMP Premium Collection Editions of X…

      • *I meant to say is the CLAMP 30th anniversary/MKR 25th boxset anniversary edition by Kodansha USA is reused by newer foreign editions.
I saw that the new Vietnamese and German editions of MKR reusing the designs of Kodansha USA for both CLAMP’s 30th anniversary and MKR’s 25th anniversary which the new English paperback editions use as well.
Correction about Kodansha’s titles, based on what I see, in the Japanese market XXXHolic’s first Japanese edition was pulled out from circulation in favor of XXXHolic CLAMP Premium Collection but MKR’s second edition remained in print while the MKR CLAMP Premium Collection was never released digitally and in foreign markets.
So, in the case of XXXHolic, Tokyo Babylon, and X we can safely say that their CLAMP Premium Collection editions will likely get licensed as the basis of foreign editions.

        • It is the new French and Vietnamese editions are the ones using Kodansha USA’s designs for MKR’s 25th anniversary and CLAMP 30th anniversary, not yet the German edition, Sorry for the mistake.

          • Thank you =)

I am not sure I like that idea of the CPC editions becoming “official” ones. I guess it’s just a phase and when a newer edition comes out it will be replaced again.

          • I observed the stuff regarding the CLAMP Premium Collection, the other manga editions, and the licensing stuff on Amazon.com by searching Amazon.com and its other versions like Amazon.de…in the listings of their manga there.

  3. If CLAMP Premium Collection of X gets released in English, it means that the 3-in-1 omnibuses will start to get out of print, so I wonder what are Viz Media’s plans for X…
