This month we’re back to double color pages. Following Akiho’s solo one from Chapter 76, we have a solo one with Kaito in Chapter 77 and his reflection over the water, a true CLAMP classic. Very fitting to have Kaito on the cover of Chapter 77, with 7 being Ohkawa’s favorite number and we know how much she’s fond of Kaito.

I had written a longer review but WordPress did not save it T______T so I will refrain from rewriting because it’s late and that initial, visceral reaction is gone and will limit myself to summarizing the main points:

• Is that a different design for THE SHIELD card? It’s supposed to be Sakura’s card, but it looks different. It actually looks like a blend between Sakura Card design and the new cards design.
• So Touya can use his power again? My understanding is that it could only be used once. Unless this Touya from this reality hadn’t used it yet?
• Again we see Sakura’s supportive network having each a very specific role. Even Kaho and Eriol all the way from England. I still think in some cases it took a long time for their role to be shown. It’s a lot of characters, but still I feel like they could have been better explored. For example, was it really necessary to have all 4 guardians to bring Akiho to where Sakura is at? Sure, they could still be proven more useful in coming chapters (other than having the important role of supporting).
• “The body remembers” — Sakura feeling the same presence from the creature and from the memories.
• “The body remembers” — Akiho crying when seeing the creature.
• The creature is unleashed when Akiho insinuates that she will go inside the fake Moon and rushes towards the night sky above Tomoeda. This is looking more and more similar to the very first dream Sakura had in Clear Card. Are we going to see Lillie again? (remember she told Sakura they would meet again when Sakura would be wearing the dress she is wearing right now); Are we going to see someone else from Akiho’s clan? Or are we going to see Akiho herself from the other reality (the one where Akiho and Sakura are not sisters)?
• I thought the Magic Association would appear, but they didn’t. The arrows most certainly are their doing, though.
• Everyone is looking slightly more according to their age in recent chapters, which is great.

I apologize for making a review based on bullet points. I will pay attention I don’t lose my draft next time T-T

31 pages again for this chapter, just like last time. 62 pages for volume 16 so far.

Chapter 78 will come out on October 1st! We don’t have any breaks since Chapter 67. It’s been 11 months straight with no breaks between chapters! Let’s hope it stays this way until the end.
