Hey hey hey! It’s been such a long time, hasn’t it? But here we are talking about some actual new development for a CLAMP work.
The color spread is quite simple in terms of composition. A big contrast with last chapter’s, which was one of my favorites. It still somewhat resembles the “musical” motif of Chapter 44’s color page, or maybe it is just me…
It’s such a shame CLAMP deliberately decided to hide Yamazaki’s father’s face. I guess he just looks like a taller Yamazaki…
Naoko’s play is brought up again. It’s most certainly happening and there’s way too much anticipation being built to it so it’s definitely going to be important — I’m still thinking it’s going to be the climax, specially because of the whole “Two Alices” concept. On a side note, I could have sworn Naoko already had a very clear idea of what she would write about. For some reason I thought she had already written it, lol.
This play is going to be so meta-meta. A play about Alice in Wonder/Mirrorland in a manga inspired by Alice in Wonder/Mirrorland.
Fujitaka mentioning that Sakura and Akiho are even more similar to each other…! Red flags everywhere!
So Yamazaki will be composing the music for the play’s song? I did not see that coming. We know he’s very imaginative, we’ll give him that, but apparently he’s very talented in other areas too, CLAMP are pushing him HARD as big CLAMP husband material. Naoko will provide the song lyrics (this just like how Ohkawa as scriptwriter would sometimes write song lyrics for CLAMP works, as well, but she is usually not in charge of the music composition itself).
While talking to Chiharu, Sakura sees the Mysterious Cloaked Figure appear randomly standing at the top of the school’s fence. She rushes in and uses a combo of 3 cards (SIEGE, LUCID and FLIGHT) to get straight to them and the chapter end as she reaches out to the figure. I want to point out that Sakura acted really fast here and used 3 cards without much thinking. We didn’t see that happening very often before and it is of course a result of her powers growing stronger and the fact that these cards were created by her and therefore she is more familiar with them.
I believe the climax will take place at the play so we’ll see what CLAMP will come up by the next chapter with this scene in particular.
And what is Sakura feeling sad about when she thinks about her and Akiho being similar? Is she questioning her individuality?
Last but not least, this wasn’t given the attention it really deserved in this chapter but let’s all praise CLAMP and Tomoeda School for being so progressive by having boys as part of the cheerleading team. Hope it will get more attention in the coming chapters.
It’s still hard to tell at this point if we will be having 50 chapters or more… CLAMP are making this really difficult.

Yamazaki getting a lot of focus! It’s nice since I’ve always loved him, but also concerning since I don’t want anything bad to happen to him.

It’s nice to have the monthly chapters back—it gives me a little sense of normalcy, you know? I saw that you’ve got a new interview series running, I hope you’ve been enjoying working on it!
The splash page this month was unusually simple for CLAMP standards. Mokona can normally churn out this kind of illustration in her sleep.
As much as I want to see some resolutions to all the mysteries we’ve piled up, I actually enjoyed this chapter. It was nice seeing Yamazaki, Naoko, and Chiharu get some focus for once. Sakura’s fear and frustration over the issues with Akiho and the MCF in her dreams were really palpable here, too—but man, Ohkawa has been taking her sweet time with it. The thing with Akiho’s family in the pool, Sakura’s dream of Akiho and Syaoran, and the creation of BREAK all happened back in Vol. 8. 😬
I don’t think we can get an ending in 5 chapters anymore. At this rate, it looks like CLAMP might repeat the structure of the last three volumes of the original series: Vol. 10 will be the last build-up to the climax, Vol. 11 will be mostly the “final confrontation,” and Vol. 12 will be the emotional resolution.

It was a lot of fun! There were 6 episodes in total (that’s how long this CCS hiatus was) but it’s paused now. Maybe one day I’ll do a “season 2” lol

Hahaha indeed. Overall this chapter was very simple, drawing-wise. I counted 26 pages and I think they must have done it in a few days, only.

Indeed. After I finished writing the chapter summary and went to bed (it was late) I thought to myself “okay… not much happened at all in this chapter”.
I don’t think we can get an ending in 5 chapters anymore. I am inclined to think the same. Which would explain Ohkawa taking her sweet time. Which would mean we might see the ending only at the end of 2021.

I’m really curious to see how many chapters this arc is going to be. I’m hoping it’s not over 200 like a certain infamous series we know lol In all seriousness though, I am getting a little frustrated with the cliffhangers. Although, Kaito does seem malicious, I don’t think his intentions are that sinister. After rewatching the anime, I can sorta feel like he too wants Sakura close to Akiho, not to replace her but to have as a friend. (Even like family maybe? sisters?) Sakura has always done so much for the people she cares about, so for her to suffer such a fate like that would be sad, even for Akiho. I hope Toya has a bigger role towards the end too.

i don’t want to say this but after we got put off from many cliffhanhers…….i somehow feel like this time Sakura may fail to uncover cloakman again(……) but getting a new card LOL….and i wish i wouldn’t come out like that ;—; (recently, i dont know what advantage for new cards =.=)
It’s quite creep to know that someone is going to be more and more similar to you….i understand you, Sakura…the theory of Kaito trying to replace Sakura with Akiho is likely true…
At this point, Naoko’s play maybe the final stage for CCS clearcard…
(some says on Tumblr that it maybe a turning point of story…..please…it’s too long to be a turning point …)
There a piles of questions that are waiting for answers very long time—I feel like they try to drag story for that it will end around 12 vols again…..
I hope we will receive an ending in 2021…not longer than this, i kinda missed other series…(well, their 30th anniversary website now turn into CCS portal too XD)
i never see they draw only one serie in one time…….will they announce anything before CCS end? i’m quite interested in…

Im gonna be super random here. There’s a loose end/ plot hole from xxxholic where we see a toy version of sakuras duck wand in the store room. And i’d actually love to see sakura interact with yuuko or watanuki! I’d love CLAMP to show sakura handing this over as a price for a wish she made!
Anyway always great to see sakura development. Love the way she jumped into action without any hesitation, whipping out 3 cards no less! More badass sakura is always welcome! 🤩

It’s curious indeed how XXXHOLiC Rei was paused shortly after Clear Card started.
We are all curious if the star wand will end up in Yuuko’s wharehouse or if that was rewritten after time and space was corrected post final battle with Fei Wang Reed.
