The official website of Card Captor Sakura announced today that the Opening theme song for the upcoming TV Anime adaptation of Clear Card arc will be performed by Maaya Sakamoto.
The song is entitled “CLEAR” and the lyrics were written by Maaya Sakamoto herself. Yoshiki Mizuno is in charge of the composition.
In a comment left by Maaya Sakamoto for the website, the singer wrote that she is happy and honored to be singing a new theme song for Card Captor Sakura nearly 20 years after the release of Platinum.

With this, we can say that all our expectations for this anime have been fulfilled, it’s hard to ask for more than they already did with the staff choice: same VA, same director, same studio, same scriptwriter and costume designer, and now, they even got Maaya on board!
We are truly blessed ^^

Indeed, it’s amazing how they were able to bring almost everyone back on board. I think the *only* key staff that didn’t come back was the character designer. The rest of the staff and cast is the same, and now even the main singer.
I pray for a very CCS-like song.

Great news!!! At this time of her career, I like to say that Maaya is more a singer songwriter than a singer. This is her first collaboration with Yoshiki Mizuno on composition. The arrangement will be produced by Kono Shin, a musician who conducted and arranged several live tours and albums for Maaya. He arranged her first composed song “everywhere” and her 15th Anniversary Concert in 2010. (CLAMP made an illustration and interview on the concert pamphlet) What a pity Yoko Kanno and Yuho Iwasato (“Platinum” composer/arranger and lyricist) didn’t join for this new song

Maaya is one of the few singers that managed to have a solid and stable career outside the anime industry. Her live concerts are so good, I hope one day I’ll be able to go to one of them.
I actually really enjoyed her 15th Anniversary concert in Budokan, I think it’s my favorite one of hers. I didn’t know Yoshiki Mizuno did the arrangement for that concert, so even though Yoko Kanno isn’t back for this new song, I think we are in good hands.

So far she did… 2 songs for Clamp Gakuen Tanteidan, 1 for Sakura, 4 for Tsubasa, 1 for Kobato. and 1 for Clamp in Wonderland 2, we could count the one for the Code Geass OVAs too. So this one would be the 11th theme song for Clamp, the record so far.
Although Suga Shikao is tailing her with 7 songs, just for xxxHolic. xD

This is awesome. I only recently thought how can ccs be css without Maaya’s song and here we are. I’m glad nearly whole production team is same. I hope Ccs spirit will comeback in this instalment. I’m sure it will.
