First pictures of GATE7 one-shot!

This blog has a few pictures of the GATE7 one-shot! Make sure to check them out (see at your own risk, of course).


I LOVED THE ART! *-* (PFFFFFFF! AS IF I WOULDN’T!!!!)

And MAN do we have a KISS already in chapter 1??? WOW this is CLAMP breaking their own barriers XDDDDDDD

Again I love the art! The eyes look so detailed!!! >....<

Two things before I go, in my previous post about GATE7 I mentioned that a signing session with CLAMP would take place at this year’s JUMP FESTA. It turns out that I misread the announcement and there won’t be an actual signing session, instead, a paperboard with CLAMP signatures will be displayed at the event. So the members of CLAMP won’t be there, just their signatures, understood? 😉 Sorry about the mistake!

And the other thing is that according to JUMP SQ‘s official twitter, negotiations with CLAMP to publish GATE7 started 3 years ago, but due to their busy schedule with their other ongoing series, it had to be postponed. 3 years ago is 2007, the year in which Dark Horse announced the Mangettes project and also the year where JUMP SQ magazine was launched. This makes me conclude that from the beginning CLAMP intended to run GATE7 in a Shueisha magazine.

  2. The kiss really threw me. I mean. It’s CLAMP. There’s about two or three on-screen kisses that I can remember off the top of my head and those occurred definitely somewhere in the middle or towards the end of the story, never-ever right in the first chapter! 😮

    … and that said, it’s already a definite plus for Gate7. |D

      I think it goes to show Hana’s character. She seems like a very straight-forward girl with a strong personality.

      • I can’t wait to see more of her, and the story itself. ♥ CLAMP doing something they’ve never done before is such an intriguing idea. I hope there’ll be a lot of surprises.

      • It was always kiss on the cheek, on the hair, but on the lips only off-stage!!! This is the first time I ever seen a kiss on the lips fo real by CLAMP!!! It’s such a miracle!

  7. A KISSING scene??!!! @__@
    Are we all dreaming, or suffering from a collective delusion?

    The last time I saw a kissing scene in a Clamp manga was….FOREVER ago! I mean, there is a kiss between Kohaku and Shuichiro in the oneshot that came with the artbook (but the picture was conveniently cropped in an angle in which we guessed they kissed but didn’t see truly the actual thing if I remember well), and also in Chobits, between Chii and her sister and it was not really clear, and then…well, nothing else comes to mind actually?

    I think we can now officially celebrate the first-kiss-on-one-full-page-without-any-obstacle-or-cropping scene in a Clamp manga!
    The drawing style got some X vibes to it?

      I agree! And I LOVE it! It’s not so heavy on screentones but it’s probably their most detailed work since CLOVER, I would say!

          • oops, I really didn’t notice at all, sorry >.<

            Now, I really feel like getting that oneshot right way! XD If I didn't really want the Newtype too, I think I would cancel it and just leave the JumpSQ so that I could receive it sooner aha~ I'm not really looking forward the mag itself though, knowing the 'type' of mag it is, the quality of paper and inking will very likely be awful, as usual, aka, the Hell of every scanner and editor =__=

              Awww I know how you must be feeling >.< If you cancel Newtype, when are you getting JUMP SQ?

              Usually monthly magazines have better printing quality than weekly magazines =/

              • Well, if I decided to cancel the december issue of Newtype (which is released november 10th), then I would receive the JumpSQ next monday, the 8th.
                But no need to do that it seems, chinese scans are already out from what I can see in your next post ^^
                So I’ll just leave my order as it is, and by the 13th-16th, I will share the HQ scans of both Kobato and Gate7~

  9. I wonder if I’m the only one not pleased by the kiss ;;;
    Most CLAMP pairings that deserve such a moment never had it (Syaoran and Sakura, for example), so the fact we have such a scene in the first chapter of Gate7 makes me go “bleh” at it. I wish a kiss scene by CLAMP, which is itself a big event, would be something more meaningful and after much character/relationship development.

    But maybe that’s just me ( . – . )

    • I understand your point, but I don’t think the fact that these 2 characters already shared a kiss make the other couples who never kissed less special.

      I’m looking at the kiss as something unusual when it comes to CLAMP and that makes me excited about what we can expect from GATE7 (more unusualness from CLAMP?).

      I don’t know who is that guy but he blushed like hell (isn’t that cute? XD). I hardly think Hana will go around kissing other dudes so they may be a pairing.

    • My point is, I think it’s a natural grow for CLAMP as artists… they are pushing themselves to a new level, throwing a kiss right in chapter 1, something they never did before.

      But you have all the right to not like it! I just hope you’ll still be able to enjoy GATE7 in the end =)

      • Ah, I don’t think their other pairings are less special because they don’t kiss (thought I’d love that to happen for Fujibato), it just bugged me a bit that we went from ultra canon pairings that developed their love for a bunch of volumes and never kissed to a pairing (or not?) that had a kiss in the first chapter ;;;

        Still, even though I don’t like this fact much, I’m really looking forward to reading GATE7 ♥

        By the way, the guy looks like a mixture between Fujimoto and Watanuki to me *laughs* Maybe it’s the fact I don’t know him at all, I’m sure he’ll stop reminding me of them as soon as I know more of his personality.

          I totally saw a ponytail-less Fujimoto there! But then someone just commented on how he looks like Watanuki, and he kinda does! I think it’s his awkward shyness (something that Fujimoto doesn’t have).

    I’m glad it seems like CLAMP is maturing a bit more with the content of this one – maybe they’ll go for a more Josei genre? Something like Suppli without the explicity?

  17. A kiss at the beginning! This isn’t the usual innocent schoolgirl, this is a very bold protagonist here. If a kiss was at the very beginning, I can’t wait to see what else she’ll do later. Nothing innocent or maidenly probably. 😉

      • Yeah. We don’t even have innocent, gullible Watanuki any longer, he’s all grown up in cunning. At least he doesn’t get so forward with his clients. But this girl is different. I wouldn’t put anything past this girl in the future. Which makes it all so much more attractive. *____* Clamp for grown ups, YAY! ^o^

  19. Wow, I haven’t seen anyone in CLAMP making out since… Sorata and Arashi in X.

    Hana looks a bit like if Yuzuriha was like Yuuko. And the guy looks sorta like if you crossed Watanuki with some Fujimoto attributes.

    Ooh, I can’t wait to see the whole thing; I’d really like to know more about the story.

  20. I literally SPAZZED when I saw the words “kiss” and “first chapter” together. This is CLAMP. As in, “Watanuki-can-kiss-the-spider-woman-but-oh-we-won’t-show-you~” CLAMP. o_o (Okay, yh, she was also giving him wine but anyways) And….I think my brain just died X_X
