This week was a very busy week at university and I’m really glad it’s over xD So the lack of updates is due to myself being busy and also due to the lack of news. This week, however, we had a bombastic Tsubasa chapter that is definitely in the Tsubasa Hall of Fame of Most Shocking and Revealing Chapters xDD
I’ll be commenting about it now, been wanting to do this all week long!
You can find the raws here.
I had seen the spoilers prior to the chapter, like I always do since… pretty much Piffle arc? Maybe a little earlier than that. But I confess I was very skeptical about them at first. First, because they hadn’t been posted by the usual person and their format looked different. And second, because it looked so much like a fan fiction to me.
Turns out that they were true. It’s my time to say:
WHAT THE FUCK!?!?
I was shocked, yeah, VERY shocked, but hey, that’s the kind of twist CLAMP does. To me this twist enters in the same category as (Chobits, CCS spoilers ahead ->) Freya falling in love with Icchan, Fujitaka being the reincarnation of half of Clow’s soul, Kaho and Eriol having an affair, and many others I can’t remember right now. I don’t know about you all but I was very “WTF?” when I found those out.
I knew CCS!Sakura and CCS!Syaoran would have a direct involvement in Tsubasa’s story, always thought they would appear at one point, it just never occurred to me it would be this way xD There are loads of theories saying that Watanuki is their kid (which could still be true since we don’t know his true nature), but very few, if any, saying that Real!Syaoran was their kid.
An adorable kid, by the way, but making him look exactly like Syaoran was such a cheat xD I mean, he could at least have his mother’s eyes, but that would be too Harry Potter, and maybe give his identity away too easily. But man, does he look exactly like his father, not a slight difference. I wonder if he’s their only son? Or do they have a girl who looks just like Sakura as well? xD
So the adorable kid of Sakura and Syaoran goes to Yuuko’s store. It’s funny how he strongly claims to not have a wish and he’s only there because his father told him so, oh yeah, because his mother saw a dream in which somebody was waiting for him in another dimension.
It’s important, I think, to notice that the scene looks exactly like XXXHOLiC chapter 1 when Watanuki supposedly first arrives to the store. The panels, some of the speeches, the compositions, even Yuuko’s clothes are the same! Even that? Even that. Which is very worrisome since Yuuko, and I actually mean CLAMP, are fashion whores. Excuse my bad manners.
Yuuko wearing the same clothes? She never wears the same clothes twice, after she uses them she burns them XDDDDDDDD Except, of course, for that special dress she wears every time she sends someone to another dimension. My point is, there must be a meaning behind it, and it has to do with Syaoran and Watanuki’s connection.
The price Sakura paid to Yuuko intrigued me a lot. Doesn’t she need her staff anymore? Can she cast her cards without it? Or can she no longer use them at all? By the way, if Sakura and Yuuko haven’t met, I wonder how Yuuko got her payment. And it’s been there in Yuuko’s basement all along, stuck in a dusty corner, and Watanuki never found it, only the replica of the old staff.
Yuuko is keeping the treasures of all sort of characters, I do hope CLAMP use Yuuko and her store again in their future works. Wouldn’t it be amazing to see a different character using Sakura’s staff, maybe not for the same purpose as Sakura, but still using it. And one would have to read Tsubasa and Card Captor Sakura to understand the origin of that staff…
Sorry, this is Tsubasa we are talking about xD
Also, now I get why “Syaoran” was always written between quote marks, because it’s not his real name! That’s so obvious and yet I didn’t see it xD
The Japaneses are now calling him “Small Dragon”, which would be something like Syoryu? That was also how Bruce Lee was known xD They are calling him “Syaoron”, actually, since that’s his name in Holitsuba, which also means “Small Dragon”. Thanks ^^
So he goes to Clow and meets Sakura, seven days prior to her seventh birthday, just like he said it was. Now, a lot of people are talking about how “Syaoran” fell in love with an alternative version of his own mother. While that could turn out to be true, there hasn’t been any kind of confession or official statement that he is in love with Clow!Sakura. We know he has a wish, that is to bring something back, that something is Sakura of “that day”, as we saw in the previous chapter.
So I wouldn’t go as far as saying that “Syaoran” and Clow!Sakura are a real couple, not yet at least. But if they turn out to be, I’ll be fine with it, it would be another unusual couple that CLAMP would bring up xD
But I don’t know, this chapter left me thinking that there is much more behind this all. Now with CCS!Sakura and CCS!Syaoran’s involvement things get a different shape. Sakura had a dream, and I hope we’ll see that dream (maybe the first scene of Chapter 1?), she had the guts and courage to send her 7 years old son to ANOTHER FREAKING WORLD, I know, what kind of mother in her sane mind does that? That is why I think there’s much more behind this, it’s not as simple and crazy as it looks.
Speaking of that, I couldn’t help to wonder about certain things that right now look like serious plot-holes. For example, if “Syaoran” is 7 years old already, then that means CCS!Sakura was pregnant 8 years before that scene took place. Considering CCS’s time-line, is that possible? Not to mention that back in the early XXXHOLiC chapters, Yuuko said the original Clow staff belonged to a “little girl”. Little girl who has a 7 year old son?
When exactly did “Syaoran” come to the shop? Before Watanuki came to the shop? At the same time? I hope CLAMP answer these questions and I hope there are no plot-holes.
I demand a time-line in the final Character Guide, CLAMP, for the sake of our brains.
What else do I have to say? Oh yeah, Seishirou knows CCS!Syaoran? I’m so curious about how’s that possible…
I’m getting more comfortable with the idea that at first shocked me in a “eeeck, how fanfic-like” way. I trust CLAMP, and the story doesn’t end here, I think there are more things involved and I’m sure everything will make sense once it’s all over.
