The Making Of CLAMP Mokona no Okimono Kimono VOL. 1

Celebrating it’s upcoming release, CLAMP-PLA.NET is going to post a series of 4 volumes reporting the making of Mokona’s Kimono book.

The first volume is here !

The staff of CLAMP-PLA.NET will cover the making of the external and inside-studio photoshoots.
VOL. 1 picks up the book’s corner known as “Asakusa Kimono Stroll”, which contains photos taken at the Asakusa district, in Tokyo.
The pictures were taken with the coordination of Mokona herself.

1 – Hanayashiki:

The first location of Asakusa was Hanayashiki. It’s the oldest amusement park in Japan, having started it’s operation in 1853 ! They thought it was very suitable to wear a kimono in that location because of it’s nostalgic atmosphere.

2 – Model Arrival:

Model Utako-chan arrives. The lovely, red kimono suits her baby-face very much.

3 – Beginning of photoshoot:

Dressing checking, beginning of the photoshoot at the vicinity’s entrance. Then pictures were taken against the background of the many attractions of the park.

4 – Sensoji Temple:

After the kimono was changed, they moved to the Sensoji Temple. The members of CLAMP are giving Utako-chan some posing advices. Here they took some pictures in front of the main temple in the place where you can consult your oracle in fortune-telling papers.

5 – Nakamise Dori:

Taking pictures of walking at Nakamise Street. Tourists that gathered around to see Utako-chan wearing a kimono, “How cute!”, they shouted impressed.

6 – Jinrikisha:

Utako-chan riding a Jinrikisha. She was tense at first, saying “I think I’ll fall…”, but she gradually got used to it. The CLAMP members and the photography staff were watching it from the distance.

7 – Azumabashi Bridge:

On the Azumabashi Bridge, where one of the most interesting places of Asakusa can be seen (Asahi Beer Hall Building). Ioryogi boards on the Jinrikisha for a greater view.

8 – Water Bus:

Taking pictures on board a water bus of the Azumabashi Bridge. Girl on a kimono and a water bus gives enough retro mood. Like, a scene of a lady going to a travel, from the old times.

9 – Asakusa View Hotel:

The last photoshoot was at the japanese restaurant Karuta, inside the Asakusa View Hotel. Utako-chan was delighted to see the delicious course of dishes (? I didn’t get that one right). The woman wearing the kimono in the front side of the table, to tell the truth, is Satsuki Igarashi of CLAMP. A special performance, enjoying a meal simultaneously with Utako-chan.

10 – Last Shot:

The last shot was in the Lobby in the first floor of the Asakusa View Hotel. Since she wore kimonos during the entire day, Utako-chan’s gestures were very graceful. Don’t you think the kimono enhances woman’s femininity? (? I have no idea of what I’m talking about xD) The day was a bit cloudy, but it seemed to have the perfect temperature to wear a kimono. Ladies and gentlemen, thank you very much!

Continues on number 2…

Sorry if I mistranslated anything ^^” I did it all by myself, so… xD

My comments? The model looks LOVELY, she’s so pretty o.o Too bad the pictures are so small, though. The pictures already look damn pretty and this is just the making of ! I can’t wait to see how neat and colorful those photographies will turn out to be in the end ^__^
I loved the scenario, they couldn’t pick any better place (What? That park must be amazing!), but I think there’s at least one more external shooting.

My very favorite part, was to know that CLAMP gave the model some posing advices !! XD CLAMP Involvement !! And Mokona coordinating everything, of course ^__^

I hope you like it ^^ I’ll be posting the other 3 volumes as well.

    • I wouldn’t doubt about that. I saw a blog where the guy had the exact same question ^^ Is it cannon that her niece is called Utako? But then again, how many Utakos there are in Japan? XD It would be very cool, though.

      Welcome !

Watashi no Suki na Hito, comment of story 12 :

“Now, she [her sister] lives happily with a wonderful husband and two little girls named Mako and Utako.”

        Cannon. ^_^

        > But then again, how many Utakos there are in Japan? XD It would be very cool, though.

Lol! More than a thousand I guess. ^_^ But it’s the “-chan” and the “pose advices” that makes me think she could be Ohkawa’s niece. Anyway, if it’s true, it will probably be written in the actual book.

          >But it’s the “-chan” and the “pose advices” that makes me think she could be Ohkawa’s niece.

Well, the “-chan” I can understand, but maybe the was that cute xD But the posing advices, that’s what a model is supposed to do, right? Follow orders xD I think they would still advice her even if she wasn’t her niece.

  3. Oh, my god!! I really feel the need to dress one of those colourist kimonos!! , well, in fact I couldnt never possible afford it , but… people got to dream some time, sight…I love all of them, but specially the red one. it´s beautifull, you can say that even when the pictures are so small. cant wait to see the official pictures. uh, and yes, i also think that kimonos enhances woman´s feminity, more than any other clothes. Any woman look beautifull dressing a kimono.
By the way, i´ve been a bit lost lately because a move for another place and right now i dont have any conection- i´m really mad about this, but it cant be helped- at leats for 5 month i will depend on cibercafes and similars. what a punch to my wallet. Well, nice to be here again. Thanks as usual for posting those lovely pictures, and see ya again!!

    • I think I also liked the red one the most! And it’s color matches the park’s scenario so well ^__^

      >uh, and yes, i also think that kimonos enhances woman´s feminity, more than any other clothes.

I thought that was what that japanese sentence meant XDDD But even if it wasn’t, it’s still true !

      >By the way, i´ve been a bit lost lately because a move for another place and right now i dont have any conection-

Ohh I did notice you were quite away o.o I’m glad you didn’t abandon me ^^””” And so nice of you to use the small time you have access to internet to visit my LJ, thank you *bows* ^___^

“I did it all by myself, so… xD” Wow, thank you for that, too!!

Ahaha! They brought along Ioryogi! He looks funny, all alone in that Jinrikisha!
And Utako is really small, in the picture to 5 there’s a giant (European?) tourist behind her…XD She’s a typical Japanese X3, so cute and pretty!

You’re welcome ! I just wanted to warn you all that it might have some mistakes (most likely xD) because I did by myself ^^” Thankfully the text was rather easy.

I also think Utako-chan is pretty, she’s so kawaii ^^” I wonder if she’s the only model to feature in the book? O.o I think so ^^
