CLAMP ROCKS on the Ranking!
On Animate’s ranking CLAMP is rocking on! The single of Loop won the 2nd place of the best-selling CDs. As for the comics rank, Tsubasa 10 won the 2nd place followed by XXXHOLiC 6 in 3rd, Tsubasa 10 Deluxe in 5th, CLAMP No Kiseki 9 in 7th and the Official Guide Book of Tsubasa Anime in 10th place. Way to go, CLAMP!
CLAMP Su ~a secret of creation~, that’s the name of the new season of CLAMP Su event (which will be held on Mangakan museum starting on July 1st). The pictures of the poster also changed, and you can check it here. I’m glad X is still there even though I wish it was a better image (not this one which seems to be the 1st Kamui Mokona ever draw XD).
There’s already a Talk Show and Sign session with CLAMP to happen on August 7th.
So it seems that the focus of the new season changed, since the title and poster changed, and this new title, seems so interesting.

New X Artbook & New Kadokawa Magazine
Tomoe-san today received her CLAMP No Kiseki 9 and she got some stunning news: New artbook X Illustrated Collection 2 X ∞ [Infinity] to be released on September 30th, 2005, yet by Kadokawa.
Also, a new version of X ZERO, with a soft cover, is also scheduled to be released at the same date.
Really, this is such a wonderful news! I didn’t expect it to come so soon! And man, just think on the gorgeous images it’ll have *drools* I MUST buy it. The price, 2400 yens, is not that expensive compared to X Zero’s, 3780 yens.
Tomoe-san was kind enough to scan the part of the magazine that talks about it. I uploaded to my server to not steal her bandwidth.
Now, concerning the actual manga, is this a good or bad news? I have two points of view, which was also Tomoe-san’s:
– Bad: It may be a sign that Kadokawa really don’t want nothing more with X and they want for once to release the stuff that are “freezed” since they know the manga won’t be published. Like a “Okay, so we won’t release the final chapters but the earlier images are still ours, so what about making them the last artbook?”. Or also, it could be that they REALLY don’t have a clue of when the manga will come back and they want to release the artbook now other than -never-.
– Good: For me, at least, there’s no point in releasing an artbook of a series that is currently stopped. I mean, there’s a bit of non-sense since the promotion may not reach all the readers and the sales wouldn’t go as well as it would be if the manga was been serialized. So, it may be that they -finally- reached an agreement and there are plans of the return of X still this year (remember Ohkawa’s words at the talk show “Wait a bit more”). It’s like, why would they release it now and not before? And this “september”, seems really far for an announcement like that.
I not only WANT to believe in the second one, but I also DO believe in the second one. Somehow, I saw the release of the artbook as a good sign (The puff magazine was published a year ago, maybe they really reached an agreement).
On another news, also spotted by Tomoe-san, this month a new magazine by Kadokawa started to be serialized, Asuka Plus Macbeth, it’s a joint project of Kadokawa and Animate. It’s also monthly and also features shoujo stories, and what’s more: the content seems to be about darker and heavier stories, aka, mature content, perfect for X (see the title, “Asuka Plus”, like a new version of Asuka). I’d like to ask for the people that know japanese better than me and babelfish to get a deeper insight if the magazine.
Will this magazine be the new home/pe for X? It’s getting everyday more intriguing.

Hmmm… thanks for the news.
Now, personally, I think it makes no sense for Kadokawa to release a second X artbook, with such a final-sounding name, unless they, in particular, had no plans to serialize anymore X. Because serialization most likely means color illustrations, and it makes no sense to have a final artbook without including whatever those last illustrations happen to be. So to me, in particular, it sounds like Kadokawa is burying X, but making money off of what they can. An artbook is an easy way to do it.
(Which doesn’t neccesarily mean that Clamp is burying X)
We’ll see, I suppose. I’m still hoping for a Saiyuki Gaiden scenario for X.

I don’t think Kadokawa is burying X… they so want to publish X, it’s Asuka’s golden series, but not with that end.

Hmmm… I would have to disagree with it being Asuka’s golden series, because the fact of the matter is that, as far as I know, X really is not that popular in Japan. It seems to be more a cult hit than anything else.

I didn’t say “Japan”, I said “Asuka”, because sure is one of the most famous series of Asuka.
X was featured in most of the Anniversary covers and all the other covers had a BIG “X” followed sometimes by an even bigger “CLAMP” while the other series remained tiny on the corner.

Well it IS true that Asuka has pimped X a lot in the past. In my opinion, though, it’s rather disrespectful of them, if it is, indeed, that important to them, to not allow the authors creative freedom.
So I guess deep down I just hope Clamp has said screw you to Kadokawa.

Yeah, I mean… from a commercial POV, it’s understandable that editors would try to censor “objectionable” content, but from the artist POV, it really really sucks. And from the reader POV, it’s just awful to think that good, interesting stories that dare totake risks are being toned down to conform to what is “accetable”.
Which is why I applaud Clamp for not having given in so far. In some ways, I get the feeling that X is almost a labour of love for them.
Of course, that may be wishful thinking on my part. ^_^

CLAMP said on the interview on Puff, 2002, that for been such a long and detailed work, they really want the end to be perfect ^__^

It’s free, you must only buy some original pamphlet (because CLAMP will only sign that) and it costs 400y.
But you must pay attention, there will be a limit number of itens to sell, you should get there by 9 am and buy it before it goes “out of stock”.

Right now, I’m gonna focus on the good stuff and dance in joy that there will be a new artbook. And that it’s in the fall, so I can save up for it. Now, if I can just find a decent place to buy it from when the times comes…XD;

It’s pretty easy in fact, you can register and edit your orders in English, you still have to shop in Japanese, but you can copy and paste your title from clamp-net.com
So, on the main page, you click on the beige button in the upper right corner.
On the next page, there a line : “Would you like to see this page in English? Click here.”
Go down to the “Account setting” section, click on the “Change your name, e-mail adress, or password”
fill the field as a new costumer
Pretty easy and you pay the same price than the Japanese. I you have some problem, use babel.altavista.com ^_^

Ahhhh, this sounds like SUCH GOOD NEWS for X if you ask me! And I was JUST getting all nostalgic about my X ZERO today, too. 🙂 “Macbeth” boasts that it’ll be a ground-breaking collab with a more adult feel and new “higher level” content. This sounds SMART AS ANYTHING and could be why (or because?) CLAMP’s been breaking silence after so long on the issue. I hope I hope…

Do you collect Prince of Tennis doujinshi? You know Cheap Soup, the one circle that does really gorgeous ToriShishi? The artist, Nero, is in this Macbeth thing. I saw an advertisement for it at the end of last year.

I had no idea that CLAMP and Kadokawa had had an argument over the series; I thought CLAMP was just taking a break to plan the final chapters. Do you have any specifics about any of this? Thanks so much.

CLAMP, mostly Ohkawa, had the end planned back in 92 already ^^
They are not doing this “break” because they are “elaborating the end”, because tecnically it is already done.
They drew the next chapter after the last published one but kadokawa didn’t accep because of it’s content (too harsh, we all believe).

Oh, I don’t really know what to think. I really want to hope this means the return of X -someday-, but we don’t know how evil Kadakawa really is, after all.
Still, I’ll try to be happy about it, death sentence or not. My favorite X illustrations are going to be in Infinity, after all. ^^ And we are so getting a new Tarot card with the artbook.

Besides, that japanese site of my last post says that if the publish goes under kadokawa (aka, any magazine), the end will be changed. It seems that is not even an Asuka problem, but a kadokawa one.
So maybe who knows if a magazine can change anything.

The hardcover X zero with 160 pages was sold 3600¥, so a softcover X infinity for 2400¥ is forshadow no lesser quality.

I’m so please to know there will be an X section on the Clamp website tonight! I dare not to place much faith in the Asuka plus Macbeth, after two years, one lose hope (but Ohkawa did say just a little longer, so maybe …). Anyway, the Macbeth #2 will be release next week and the Clamp tell us two month before a comic is release in a monthly magazine, so nothing before the issue #4 on August.
About X infinity and the softcover version of X zero, both will have a never seen before color illustration drawn by Clamp (maybe we’ll get an image of Saya on the new cover of X zero). I wonder if there will be a tarot card in infinity, there will be 20 volumes of X and two artbooks (or at least, that’s what an ad said in one of the DVD pakages), but the second artbook is not named X twenty-one, but infinity. There’s no tarot card with the infinity symbole, so maybe we’ll get the back of the cards, and a third artbook will be release when the serialisation will be over.

As for the title “Infinity”, I don’t think it has anything to do with “waiting infinitly”, this title is very predictable since there’s a symbol for it (as Zero) and is opposed to Zero (which means “nothing” and infinity means “all”), I really was expecting that title.

It would be a good marketing strategy to put X ending in Asuka Plus Macbeth. X readers would have to buy the new magazine to finish reading X, and since they already bought it, why not reading the other stories serialized in it?
And as X readers usually like dark shojos, they would probably like one or other story from Asuka Plus Macbeth and become frequent readers, even after X was over.
Hopefully Kadokawa editors may think that, and we will be able to finally see X ending.

So it seems after the update that there will be two interviews, one at “Top Runner” somewhere in July and another one in August for Clamp Su.
About X, it didn’t get it’s own section, the entry is in the etc. section. It looks bad for a continuation of X.

Espero que X volte logo, seja em Asuka ou nessa Plus Macbeth… Eu estava sabendo desse lançamento faz um tempinho, circulou na ml… O pessoal não ficou muito empolgado lá na lista, acham que é mais um caça-níquel da editora… Se X passar pra essa nova revista, seria um bom chamariz para ela e os fãs ficariam agradecidos se o final fosse mantido… Já que não há outra saída ;__; O jeito é esperar mesmo…
