I officially hate kadokawa… No, it’s not Mokona’s disease (gosh, there are people who believed that? Yeah), it’s not Ohkawa’s lack of imagination (who came up with this should be burned in hell), no it’s not Tsubasa and XXXHOLiC (poor kiddos *hugs Tsubasa/holic charas*)… it really is what we feared the most: Problems with Kadokawa
It’s official. I was surfing on the internet and I found this blessed page, which is totally dedicated to X’s pause.
With the gently help of Sakura-chan and babelfish XD we managed to translate the most important parts and we can say for sure that.
CLAMP gave a long interview on Puff Magazine later on July 2004 (about a year we could have the truth! ;_;) where they were asked about the pause on the serialization.
Ohkawa answered that the magazine is not accepting the end because of it’s content. Apparently, is a bad end, aka, sad, bloody, with gruesome (or is it too happy/sweety? I really doubt).
And this is not the first time they “fight” with kadokawa, according to the interview, they also were asked to change Wish’s ending. And CLAMP changed it (;_;), and in a hurry to follow the deadline.
Even though the war is set, Ohkawa made clear that they DO plan to publish the end, that even though the serialization stopped, it doesn’t mean they’ll never do it again.
I will gently ask the people who knows japanese and who could do it, to read the page for further details ^_^
There’s a poll in one of the links asking which end do you want:
1. The one CLAMP thought (Voted!)
2. Whatever the end, just publish it for once.
3. Other suggestion.
MAYBE, they’ll plan to show it to CLAMP so please, please, let’s all vote on number 1 (which is winning like a crazy) but there are only 78 votes (at the moment I’m typing this). No need to comment on the vote… because it’s a japanese site so most of the people won’t understand what you are saying. It’s simple, so, if you are reading this, please vote! Let’s do anything we can to read the end CLAMP thought, the original end.
Thank you very much… I now will retire myself and start to cry in the corner… ;__;

Personally, I can’t believe someone would vote for ‘B’. After so many volumes, to just have any old ending done…argh xx;
And I really want to know what ending it could be that makes the magazine so unhappy. It is about the end of the world…hmm… The ending of Wish was changed?! True, it’s a great story right now, but it makes me wonder now.
What a mess CLAMP’s in ;o;

So, it’s not a happy ending. Excellent. XD Hmmm, now another thought popped up in my head; maybe the ending is sort of like Bible’s great flood, with everything destroyed except a couple of people to recreate the human race. Then again, it’s probably something beyond our wildest imagination.
And WHOA, I had no idea that Wish’s ending was changed. Makes you wonder what the original one was like. (I never liked this one very much, it’s somehow odd…)

I’d like to know in greater detail why Kadokawa rejected the idea but unfortunately, I’m not fluent in Japanese. I’m sure that Kadokawa understands it’d be best to follow Ohkawa’s plans because they are what consumers want and expect, but they might have been forced to reject it because of reasons beyond their control (eg. laws that govern the content of manga, books, and the media in general).
I voted 1. I sincerely hope that X will end the way CLAMP wants it to end, ASAP.

> laws that govern the content of manga
I don’t think it’s THAT extreme… there are much worse mangas out there… with much more gruesome scenes. I guess they don’t want to run it because it doesn’t sound like “shoujo” anymore, in their minds.

Oh no, since last year the Diet passed new obscenity laws because of the loli porn stuff. X now falls into the catagory of obscenity for publishing if they were to stick to the original ending, and when the serialization was put on hold, the bill was just being shoved through the Diet.
Hope this helped?
I friended you btw. 🙂
LikeLike
I see… well, it’s probably something between CLAMP and Kadokawa… I don’t think CLAMP wants to break the law… if that was the case, they would really change the end (if they noticed that by publish the chapter, they would be breaking some laws), but I guess it really is Kadokawa who is whinning.
>I friended you btw. 🙂
Ow thank you ^_^
LikeLike
It’s not really about breaking the law with CLAMP – one of the reasons this bill was so contraversial was because it was rendering all kinds of stuff previously fine to you and me “obscene”. If CLAMP made the ending of X violent, there was a reason, and Kadokawa didn’t want to get involved with the police because of grappling over artistic integrity. That’s why they put things on hold.
I can see where the Diet was trying to go with trying to ban kiddy porn and all of that in manga, but they took it a little too far. -__-;
LikeLike
so you mean this is no longer a Kadokawa decision?
LikeLike
It’s complicated. I think the situation went something like this:
1. CLAMP submits end to X
2. Diet starts sending bill through
3. Kadokawa hears about bill/fines for violators
4. Kadokawa rejects end of X
5. CLAMP refuses to redraw and/or asks for more time to redraw
6. Negotiations continue, serialization ends
That’s probably what happened. Then again I could be totally wrong, but when it comes to stuff like that that’s what usually happens. Especially since the government’s been really coming down on publishing companies lately because of this law.
LikeLike
wow…does this law only apply to magazines or to books as well?
If not, hopefully CLAMP will find a way to publish the remaining chapter(s) straight to tankoubon instead of a magazine first…
Somehow I doubt it’d be that easy though >_<
If they do change it…hopefully they'll release the original endings of both Wish and X (and whatever else *sigh*) in a doujinshi of some sort…

I think it’s for all officially released printed matter – that’s what I was hearing.

Out of curiosity, do you know where I could find out more about this law? I’m kinda curious to what Japan now legally labels as “obscene,” seeing how in the past they’ve had, uh, interesting interpretations. (like how showing/depicting pubic hair was illegal, yet they turned a blind eye to all the lolicon porn.)

About Wish, though, that’s weird. o.O;; I was translating the last bits of the Wish interview from CnK, and they asked, Did You Plan The Ending As It Was? And Ohkawa said yes, she had– though in retrospect she wishes she had written the whole of the story differentely (instead of having it be so dark, to let it remain a fluffy hearted series with a happy ending). She didn’t say anything about being forced to change the ending.

Re: Napi
“Lolicon” sands for “Lolita complex”. You know, it’s the sexual fantasy about men having sex with young girls (often behind the legal age -18 in Japan since some years ago-). It’s a recurrent topic in hentai manga/anime/doujin, and, up to now, it was quite accepted.
However, recently, Japan has officially declared lolicon is a damnative thing. Conservadorist government want to attract some votes, and thet are taking measures like this in different areas of their society. Personally, I find more disturbing classic hentai involving dickgirls (YUK!) or tentacle monsters, but you see, that’s the situation there. ^^UUU
Nevertheless, I don’t think lolicon has anything to do with X stop. Yuzu x Kusa haven¡t even had a kiss, and of course CLAMP aren’t going to depict them fucking like dogs in the ending ^^U
Regarding to X’s stop, FINALLY SOME TRUTH! Maybe Kadokawa changed their directives since the beginning of the publication. Nowadays ones are, perhaps, more conservative with the “Asuka is a SHOUJO magazine”. Lots of Japanese schoolgirls, let’s avoid fooling ourselves, are pansy, impressionable and they sure must have complaint to the magazine. In order to avoid losing customers (=money), it’s the logical thing to do for an enterprise (=editorial) to cut the problems out.
CLAMP sure is somehow trying to publish X’s ending. Publishing in different magazines (more shounen-like oriented?), convincing Kadokawa to release it within the tankouboun without setting monthly issues anymore… However, I’m kinda disappointed with them four: What were they waiting for to tell us fans about the reasons of X’s hiatus? They should have told it as soon as they knew there were this problems, and not a year ago, in order for fans (specially, Japanese ones) to send feedback about this situation (another solution for the problem, BTW)… U_U
Let’s all hope they do find it, vote in this poll and have even MORE patience. We sure want to see that ~gruesome~ (*shaking in excitement*) ending, and the most important of all: See more of Satsuki (and Yuuto!) xD
PS: Ok, I’ll stop blaming Tsubasa about X hiatus 😛

And I stick with my theory.
Last chapter is Kamui and Fuuma married, during their Honeymoon in Hawaii, drawn in details.
Anything less weird than that can´t bee reason for holding a popular serie for 3 d*** years.
Who care´s about the blood after all this time? Tokiko´s body went “boom” then “splash” all over the house when she died. I saw all her internal organs.
Arashi killing Sorata? It would be sad, but not enough for all this fuzz, the guy has to die for her anyway.
Sad ending? How many people here are expecting a fluffy one?

What about making the ending Kadokawa wants for Asuka and releasing the taukoban with the real ending?
Otherwise this negotiation will be everlasting.
I dont care about Kamui at all, so a violent death for him would affect me as much as Tokiko´s, but it´s true I wouldnt like something too gruesome for Sorata or Subaru, for example. But both of them probably wont have nice ends, so I wouldnt be surprised.
Kadokawa approved Nataku, the “cute child” among the charas, dying in a very ugly way, and approved Kotori, the “kind girl” of the group, having a MUCH uglier death. I dont think the point is protecting the readers from Kamui´s violent death.

Wish’s ending was changed? O_O Weird.
I can only come up with two options for an ending too rough to be published.
1) Tentacle rape. Yami no Matsuei did that and the serialization stopped. [Although I’m not sure if it’s that scene’s fault…]
2) Mpreg!! Kamui will bear Fuuma’s child! [Now THAT’s scary.]
And of course the world will be annihilated and they’ll all die. There’s no way someone would survive.

Kadokawa really ruined my week (last week), I voted A, but couldn’t get it out of my head. Two years wasted over a silly fight! The move to Shogakukan is now clear, Clamp don’t want to have anything to do with Kadokawa anymore, and we don’t blame them for it.
However, I want to warn you all that petitions are rarely efficent. Internet based petition are even worst, because people can vote more than once with no effort.
The topic of the petitions’ efficency came on my Harry Potter’s forum, one of the members wrote this:
“I have friends who work in the movie and TV industry and they said that an actual letter holds more weight than an email. It is incredibly easy to click and send an email or add your name to an online petition. If you take the time to print a letter, address it, stamp it and mail it, it shows that you really do feel strongly about the subject.”
So I suggest that each of us write a letter to their own country publisher and to Keiichi Segawa of Kodansha, and that we do this every month until we get the end of X. The ones who can write to Keiichi in Japanese do so, the rest of us should write him in English. Why write to the non-Japanese publishers of X? If we bother them enough, they’ll complain to Kadokawa and their voices are much stronger than ours.
Now, what to write in these letters?
– First of all, stay respectful, stay polite, but make sure they get how pissed off you are and how ridiculous it is to even think to replace the ending that the Clamp wanted to draw all along for a milder one. If you are unrespectful, they’ll trash your letters and won’t be inclined to help.
– When you write to Kadokawa, you may begin your letter with an apology (for your bad Japanese, for writting in English or for intruding in the Kadokawa/Clamp business).
– You may do an analogy with Harry Potter (many publisher turned the first book down because it was too long for a child book, they didn’t know how long the fourth and the fifth would be, they didn’t how dark it would get, if they had read the whole series, who in his right mind would have agreed to publish it? However, kids like it, adults like it, the whole planet is crazy about Harry) or with Rg Veda/Tokyo Babylon (we know how cruel Ohkawa can be, we expect X to end badly, with very few, if any, characters alive, we know we’ll cry a lot, but, for God’s sake, we like it that way!).
– Make sure they get that after two years of waiting, it’s getting ridiculous, and they make us feel like they have no respect for their costumers.
– When you’ll write to Keiichi, tell him that there’s no need to serialise the rest of the series in a magazine, if Ohkawa’s version is too disturbing for any of their publication. If they have to serialise it before hand, they should make a special issue of Asuka, the X コミック総集編05, to prepublish the end in one shot, before the release of the last two tankoubon (and the second artbook ^_^).

It means they expect the conflict to last much, much longer and they want to make money with the pictures they already have, they give up to wait for the last two books to be completed. It’s the first step to give up on X forever!
So what should we do, buy it? Boycot it? We should buy it and prove Kadokawa the X fans are still interested after two years.
