Another color spread for volume 12! This is the 4th time within this volume!
CLAMP continue to feed us with the Two Alices story in homeopathic doses. Are we going to see the ending only in the play itself? Or rather… when Clear Card ends? And is this the story of the other Alice we are seeing now?
So the role for the “cat” ended up being Syaoran. It makes sense considering the Two Alices are Sakura and Akiho and we know for a fact that the “cat” is a metaphor for Kaito (we even saw his magic circle with the “cat” in Chapter 58). Both Kaito and Syaoran’s powers are sourced from the Moon and they are each of the Alices’ “pair”. Plus, I would say Syaoran Li’s personality is similar to a cat’s.
It was nice to see some considerate “screen time” (“page” space?) for Naoko, Chiharu and Yamazaki without Sakura being around.
Also, this time Yamazaki’s eyes were not open even though he was telling the truth (this is only true for the anime… right?). UPDATE.
So Tomoyo has made some outfits for the play, but she’s not happy about them… indeed the outfits don’t look climax material, if you know what I mean.
CLAMP sure are taking their sweet time with this play. I wonder how many more stages there are before we get to actually see it. Are we gonna see them rehearsing or jump straight to it? It’s been years since the play was first mentioned in the serialization. Talk about building up!
Back in Sakura’s house, the plot gears move a bit with a much needed talk between the guardians. They also don’t know (how great) what Clow wanted to achieve using the Alice in Clockland (for lack of a proper title) book.
They tried to find out (well, Yue tried) but Clow just smirked — of course. The guardians themselves confirm that Clow was as mysterious to them as readers perceive him. They also reveal that Clow’s personality wasn’t pristine and he himself had quite a few enemies, which is expected from a powerful magician as himself, but I don’t remember this being said so openly in CCS before.
Isn’t it interesting how the little “flame” in Clow’s floating “candle” is actually a shard? I’m just saying…
Oh, and CLAMP totally using Kero in that frame as an outlet for the readers blaming everything on Clow.
Then, we have an unexpected but very overdue guest appearance by Momo and her special entrance (didn’t expect less from her, Queen). The meeting of the 3 guardians was much anticipated! But it looks like this moment is about to be erased by Kaito’s rewinding time again? =/ Can he still do it, then?
Momo looks very concerned and she is trying to interfere more than she is allowed to (or maybe this is her own wish/agenda?)
What a torturous way to end the chapter/volume! What is it that Momo wants to leave with Kero and Suppi? Will Kaito really turn back time? We all thought that 5 times was going to be the number but Momo doesn’t seem to think so. I hope that whatever she will leave with them, they will be able to remember of her.
Sadly, we are not going to find out before March.
