What a lovely surprise to see Yelan on the cover page, looking as beautiful as ever. She’s making her debut in a color page in the manga. Lotus flowers everywhere, validating her moon power. It really feels like CLAMP are using all their available options for the color pages, which is great. Can we get Sonomi now, please? ♡

After last chapter, I was hoping things would get picked up again for this chapter, but this time we got a shorter chapter (only 26 pages, including the title page) and the first 4 pages we have Kero and Suppi talking about food. My thoughts were “here we go again”.

Thankfully, the other 21 pages were more interesting for me.

Is Sakura’s cooking outfit based on a teddy bear? Or is that her pajamas?

It’s not always that we see Suppi showing his caring side towards Sakura. That was nice to see, for a change.

So the date between Sakura and Syaoran is finally happening after last time’s failed attempt. This was being anticipated for a while now and we can check that off of our list of “pending things”. More from that list: the play (and other things).

At her house, Akiho is planning to take Kaito on a date as well. It’s interesting how she is completely taking the lead here and leaving Kaito practically without a choice. She planned everything and even took the courage to “ask him out”, even though for him it could have been perceived simply as a request from his “boss”. Is Kaito seeing this as part of his job?

Momo is being full supportive for Akiho. Remember in early chapters how she would react a little differently towards Akiho? We didn’t exactly know their relationship back then but now it’s pretty clear that Momo really cares for Akiho.

I love Sakura reassuring Syaoran that is alright that they are going to the botanical garden again. So kind and clever to say that the flowers are different because the season is different. Very sweet way of making her date reassured. I also love that Sakura’s dress has crown motifs. It’s been a while since crowns have been used, I think.

They keep exchanging kind and sweet remarks to one another (relationship GOALS) and being a cute CLAMP couple ♡

They meet Akiho and Kaito at the garden and they keep bumping into each other. Sakura and Akiho look very similar (dress and hair). Kaito doesn’t seem as surprised/startled as the other three, which is suspicious. You know what else is suspicious? The fact that Kaito is apparently doing well enough to enjoy a sunny day even though he was literally crumbling down one or two days ago…. suspicious.

Back at Akiho’s place, Momo continues to represent all the readers as she is literally watching the four of them at the botanical garden, while treating herself with fine chocolate and an even finer wine, I’m sure of it, in her true form. I am taking her assumption that Kaito had no involvement in picking up the place as a given, validating Akiho’s taking the lead and being vocal about her desires.

How amusing is the fact that Kaito’s trick is making Syaoran just smile back and be polite? Very amusing, I’d say! Two gentlemen battling. This is very CLAMP and very CCS.

Yukito and Nakuru make a quick appearance — it’s been a while! I wonder what happened to that Tsukimine Shrine business…. surely we’ll get to that in no time. We find out from them that Touya is at another one of his multiple part-time jobs at, yes, you guessed it: the botanical garden.

Akiho notices him first (suspicious?) and calls out “(it’s your) brother!”

Somehow this triggers Sakura into having a strange feeling…

What did she feel right here? Was she bothered by the fact that Akiho appeared to be calling Touya as her own brother? This may not be well translated to other languages but in Japanese, Akiho says “Onii-sama!”, which could either be interpreted as “(It’s your) brother!” or “(It’s my) brother!”. You may want to read my friend Sakura84-chan’s Tumblr post for more information about this (and other interesting stuff as well — her chapter summaries are really amazing!).

CLAMP and their dualities, their plays with words…

I was on constant lookout for someone who could be The Mirror in disguise but I think not, I think they are all real there. Maybe the card will be used for something other than what it is known for.

I am very curious to see how will be Touya’s reaction to Kaito, and vice-versa.

  1. I’d say it is possible that this Kaito is Mirror in disguise because as you say, he looks quite fine for being at death’s door (that is unless he is simply powering through or using some illusion spell). Sakura being reminded of that world is painful but could it be possible that Sakura is feeling some danger towards Touya right now? Iirc he eyed Fujitaka as a “vessel”, what if Touya is now in his sights and Sakura is sensing this?
