Once again, the color illustration reminded me of the 90s CLAMP style.
Sometimes the color pages don’t actually reflect the chapter’s content, but that’s completely not the case here. There couldn’t be a more fitting illustration to open this chapter. SyaSaku fans, clean your plates because you are about to be SERVED.
Syaoran is feeling a little guilty for maybe saying too much to Sakura. I don’t think he did — specially as a reader I am thankful he did! — but it makes sense he would feel a bit guilty. The cards are all consoling him, although some of them seem to be doing the opposite, lol. I don’t quite remember this kind of interaction with Sakura and the cards. It’s kind of amusing since most of the cards have female appearances and Syaoran is this little boy needing some advice.
There’s a cute little senpai/kohai moment with Sakura and two elementary students, and there is even a nice mention of Terada-sensei! Nice touch from CLAMP to remind us that he is still around.
Then CLAMP are showing us what a HEALTHY relationship looks like and bless them for being true role models for healthy relationships. Despite their age, Sakura and Syaoran are very mature — much like the other of CLAMP children. However Tomoyo is still the most mature of them all, of course, no matter how hard the others try, she is above them all in her wisdom beyond her age, as exemplified by her taking her cue and leaving Syaoran alone to ask Sakura out.
Naoko’s play is coming along, even though she hasn’t finished writing the script yet. I thought this whole deal with the play would go by faster, but CLAMP sure are taking their sweet time. I guess I’m saying this having the Sleeping Beauty play in mind, but that one was not written by Naoko and I understand they want to show the whole process this time.
CLAMP have been foreshadowing this play for so long that it’s more than clear now that it will culminate in the series’ climax. Naoko is still in the process of writing the script, as pointed out by the seemingly roadblock she encountered halfway of writing it. By the looks of it, for his own disappointment, Syaoran might hold the solution for her roadblock. Did he really think he would get away?
Another ominous foreshadowing moment at the very end of the chapter with Kaito clearly getting weaker and running out of his own time. Will he survive past this all safe and sound in time to wear something Akiho sews for him?
There are several foreshadowing hints CLAMP are throwing here and there, the stage is being set, the players are gathering and the tension is building up. The pacing could be a bit faster, however. But I know we are not going nowhere before 12 volumes so I am gonna sit tight and wait for the next chapter =)

SyaSaku fans, clean your plates because you are about to be SERVED.
LOOOOL I cackled at this!! I was served and I enjoyed the meal, thank you!
Too bad that I had to be POISED with Kaito’s final scene, hahaah XD
It’s really like what a fan on Twitter said: when SyaoSaku are having a happy moment, there’s a bad moment for YunaAki…and when YunaAki are getting a cute scene, SyaoSaku are on the verge of drama…hahahaha! Can’t they just be HAPPY all 4 at the same time?? XDDD
I really enjoyed this chapter, it was cute and smelled like nostalgia, with all those Sakura Card Arc vibes. I also have the impression that this is part of the “reminiscing” phase of the plot, where we give a last look back to “where we came from”, before facing the present time and the current challenges. It helps understanding the character’s inner growth a lot.
As you said, we’re slowly but surely getting there, to the climax, and we have more than two volumes left to explore that properly: even though it seems like an eternity, I’m actually glad because hopefully this time the ending won’t look too “rushed”. I can predict, just like the old series, volume 11 will be the one including the showdown, so the play must happen quite soon…We have the following events announced:
– Syaoran and Sakura’s date (when something 100% SURE WILL HAPPEN)
– Syaoran’s birthday (possibly it’ll happen on the same day)
– Naoko’s play
I think the rest of volume 10 will be spent on the date and the birthday, then volume 11 will be completely dedicated to the play and the climax.
The cleaning up of the mess and the epilogue will be on volume 12, as usual! What do you think?
Also, I feel you when you say “Will he survive past this all safe and sound in time to wear something Akiho sews for him?”, because I truly think shit is gonna happen right after she’s finished her outfit for him, and he won’t be able to wear that. Not until the happy ending, at least 😉 hahahah
Come on, come on, we’re almost there! We can do this! XD

You’ve been waiting so long for this!

I never noticed that and that makes a lot of sense? Ohkawa is very balanced, ying/yang so this makes perfect sense.

I really hope so. Right now there still plenty of pages left to comfortably answer all questions. But I hope they will make good use of those last 2.5 volumes.

I agree that the play and the date are both crucial, both have been foreshadowed for too long so something is bound to happen.
I wanna say you are right regarding the sh*t happening most in between the later half of volume 11 and the beginning of volume 12. CLAMP have changed a little the way they tell their stories and recently they are leaving EVERYTHING to the very ending, which doesn’t leave a lot of space/room for the aftermatch and for the dust to settle down. I prefer the former approach, the one you predicted.
Also, I feel you when you say “Will he survive past this all safe and sound in time to wear something Akiho sews for him?”, because I truly think shit is gonna happen right after she’s finished her outfit for him, and he won’t be able to wear that. Not until the happy ending, at least 😉 hahahah
He will be wearing what she sewed for him in the last chapter. Mark my words.
