Summery title page for a chapter in the middle of the summer (at least in the north hemisphere). Don’t we love how CLAMP draw water? And it looks like CLAMP arrived a little 2 months late for pride month. But every month is pride month, specially when it comes to CLAMP.

So we are on the second chapter of volume 8. I think it’s going to be 10 volumes, by the way — at least for the time being that’s my guess.

I love that Tomoyo is trying new and bolder outfits for Sakura. I absolutely love the quirkiness of this outfit!

Now, let’s talk about this macaron and chocomint business. For one thing, I think CLAMP forced things up a little with Sakura making macarons. Macarons, really? Out of all pastries, macarons? They are extremely hard to make and Sakura is not that crafty at the kitchen. I’ve watched Junior Masterchef and I know some kids can cook the most incredible things for their age, but Sakura never seemed to be that skilled at cooking. But at the same, I don’t want to doubt our heroine so yeah OF COURSE SHE CAN MAKE PERFECTLY GOOD MACARONS.

The chocomint business is amusing. I am loving it because I have always been team chocomint as far as I can remember. I love chocomint and chocomint-flavored things. But I also noticed how it divides opinions. You either love it or hate it, there is no middle ground. Every person I know that likes it, likes it a LOT, while people who don’t like it, absolutely hate it. I think CLAMP are playing around with this and it makes sense that characters have such strong opinions about it. I wonder what each CLAMP member thinks of chocomint. I know Nekoi must like it since she posted some chocomint stuff in her social media recently.

Bless Tomoyo, Sakura and Akiho for being team chocomint.

The song from Tomoyo and Akiho’s duet made me curious… It seems to be about Sakura? I wonder if we will see its lyrics (like the songs in CLOVER).

Absolutely loving Sakura for being so supportive of Tomoyo, here. Yes, girl, you do exactly that! ♡

Does anyone know the name of the ice cream shop Touya and Yukito are working? Is it 21 or 27? I am inclined to think it’s 21…

Back to the chocomint business. Nakuru, Kaho and Yukito (sorta) are team chocomint too ♡ Eriol and Touya aren’t. It’s interesting how my favorite characters like chocomint, just like me? What’s up with that? It’s bizarre how it fits. Also it seems like the female characters or characters with feminine attributes are more inclined to like chocomint. Interesting how CLAMP see that.

Just WHERE is Yukito going before his groceries shopping?

It’s sweet that CLAMP are providing us with Fujitaka and angel!Nadeshiko interaction. I don’t think we had seen such long conversation between them before.

Somehow I love what Fujitaka said about Nadeshiko looking very happy while having some chocomint? My god that is the exact feeling and the fact that he knew that she was happy. CLAMP really did their research haha.

Sooooo, back to the PLOT. Nadeshiko actually met someone who is the spitting image of Akiho and must be Akiho’s mother. Nadeshiko reveals that they got along well because they were very similar (just like Sakura and Akiho). Akiho’s mother has that air of the CLAMP character that knows a lot, she might even had been a yumemi, considering how she knew she would never meet Nadeshiko again.

I would have never guessed that Nadeshiko and Akiho’s mother (let’s assume it’s her mother, c’mon) were BFFs, even though they met like, once. This puts Sakura and Akiho’s friendship in another level, in a our-mothers-were-friends level. It’s huge.

She was in Japan when they last met. Suspicious.

Before this chapter, I was under the impression that Akiho’s parents could have been characters we knew. I knew they would be important to the plot, considering how Akiho’s magic clan talked about them (“those two”). However, judging by her looks, it’s not someone we know, but she definitely looks powerful. She has that air.

So she cast a friggin’ spell on the watch, of which we don’t know about yet, of course. Just like that. She decided out of the blue to cast a spell, and Nadeshiko was like SURE WHY NOT? Again, Akiho’s mother must have been a yumemi for knowing that shit would hit the fan and she would have to do something about it. The fact that it’s on a clock makes me think that it must be a spell related to time.

So curious to find out more about this friendship between Nadeshiko and Akiho’s mother and of course, Akiho’s father too (who is not team chocomint).

Back to Tomoyo’s house, Syaoran arrives and he can go away for all I care for not liking chocomint. Joking. There is an electric (?) spark when he and Sakura were about to touch each other. A new card? Or is it Sakura’s own power trying to prevent her from putting Syaoran in danger and thus, keeping him away?

  1. I’ve been looking forward your summary and review of this chapter 🙂

So we are beginning volume 8 with this chapter!

I thought this was the 2nd chapter of volume 8?
    ——
    volume07
    ch 30 30 pages [02/2019]
    ch 31 29 pages [03/2019]
    ch 32 28 pages [04/2019]
    ch 33 31 pages [05/2019] [spread] [COVER]
    ch 34 32 pages [06/2019] [spread]
TOTAL = 150 pages (NOT including blank pages and the likes for the tankubon release)
    ——
    volume08
    ch 35 31 pages [08/2019] [COVER] [furoku-clear file]
    ch 36 27 pages [09/2019]
ch 37 xx pages [10/2019] [COVER]

I have a .txt file in which I write those things to keep track hahaha, so you think there is going to be 6 chapters in volume 7 then?

I love chocomint and chocomint-flavored things.

So do I! I really love it! Before there was close to no choco mint flavored ice cream in stores, I always had to go to an ice cream parlor, but they began selling it these past few years! 😀

Just WHERE is Yukito going before his groceries shopping?

Indeed, WHERE! I thought it could be Tomoyo’s house for some reasons, and then both guardians would be there when Sakura secure the new card, but her place is quite far from the center of the city, this is just not a place you ‘pass by’ on your way to another destination for sure…

It’s sweet that CLAMP are providing us with Fujitaka and angel!Nadeshiko interaction. I don’t think we had seen such long conversation between them before.

I felt the same, this is the first time we’ve ever seen these two talking so long with each other, it was short but I really loved it!
The other thing is that this is the first time Fujitaka was informed of what was going on, or at least given some information: he usually is not up to date with what’s going on with his daughter, magic wise, and trust her to keep herself safe and be careful.
But this time around, he actually knows something that Sakura is not aware of!

About Nadeshiko and Akiho’s friendship, it was really all quite sudden and went so fast, and the ‘we are alike’ came up again, just like it did with Sakura and Akiho, I’m not sure where this is going…so now, both the mothers and daughters are ‘so alike’ @_@

There is an electric (?) spark when he and Sakura were about to touch each other. A new card? Or is it Sakura’s own power trying to prevent her from putting Syaoran in danger and thus, keeping him away?

I am imagining we will be seeing an equivalent to THUNDER in next chapter?
This will be the very first card Sakura will secure while being aware that this is a symptom, a manifestation of her powers going out of control…
I’m not sure how she will react about hurting Syaoran, even involuntarily: guilt, anger toward herself, disapoitment, sadness, or will she move forward even more strongly and fight it off wearing her BFF outfit and with the support of her invincible spell?

    • oh, and another hope of mine for next chapter: I wonder if we will see Sakura and Syaoran both fighting together, and in Syaoran’s case, using the help of the Sakura cards!!!

Is Chapter 30 in volume 7 then? I think I made a mistake. So this is the 2nd chapter of volume 8.

it was short but I really loved it!
Hopefully the conversation will continue next chapter.

      Yes indeed!

  2. I loved the splash page for this month’s chapter! It feels like a classic CCS illustration for some reason—I think it’s the rainbows combined with Sakura’s cheerful outfit.

Sakura being able to bake macarons with so little practice was pretty silly, especially after she spent over a week trying to make tamagoyaki of all things earlier in the series. (What happened to having Sakura cook foods suitable for her age level, Ohkawa?) Both the macarons and the chocomint theme felt too trendy to me, since chocomint is everywhere in cafés and convenience stores across Japan right now. 😅 It seemed less like a natural progression and more like CLAMP awkwardly trying to squeeze their new favorite foods into the story. Next thing you know, the Kinomoto family will be sipping champagne at the dinner table.

Sakura and Tomoyo’s conversation was very heartwarming, especially the part about Tomoyo and Akiho working on a song about a little magician together. It’s interesting how Sakura quickly turned the subject toward praising Tomoyo rather than asking more questions about the song’s lyrics (or about why Akiho thought of her as she was rehearsing it, even though Akiho isn’t supposed to know about Sakura’s powers).

If Sakura has been avoiding the subject of her growing powers, then causing her boyfriend physical pain is going to force her to face it. Of course it had to be related to them reaching for each other’s hands. 😂

The way you framed Nadeshiko meeting Akiho’s mother, it…kind of sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it? The plot is now hinging on the fact that Sakura’s mom met a girl once on vacation when she was around 10, then only saw her once more for less than a day six years later when said girl happened to travel to Tomoeda by “coincidence.” I know it’s supposed to highlight the idea of fated meetings, friendships spanning generations, and bridging the gap between the world of magic and those outside of it, but it’s got that limp “SURE, WHY NOT” feeling to it. The buildup to this moment was pretty weak (we didn’t even know Nadeshiko joined her grandparents on that trip to England in the first place), and the whole flashback sequence was very rushed (got to fit in all that chocomint talk!!). I’m hoping CLAMP fleshes this out some more.

Totally! Ohkawa really went overboard with this.

Yeah, but you know, they always do that. Their works usually feature their latests hobbies and tastes.

      I LOLed.

      Always.

The friendship between Nadeshiko and Akiho’s mother did seem ridiculous, the way it was portraited. But then, once again, even though I know it doesn’t justify it, CLAMP have done this in the past too. It seemed a bit retconned to?

Subaru and Seishirou when they first met had a similar dynamic, except that Subaru’s kindness broke Seishirou completely and that was what caused an impression on him. So yeah, I’m also hoping CLAMP fleshes this out some more so that we can see maybe something big enough that left quite an impression on both Nadeshiko and Akiho’s mother, other than just being “similar”.
