Where can I watch Card Captor Sakura Clear Card TV Anime? – A useful guide

If you watch the anime via one of these channels, you’ll be supporting the creators and helping to make Card Captor Sakura even more popular worldwide.
Some plot gears moved around on this episode, right? For any anime-only audience that thinks the pacing was getting too slow.

THANK YOU Tomoyo for pointing out the obvious, that some (all?) Clear Cards have similar powers to the Clow Cards. Sakura seems astonishment with this possibility but I am like “Girl, you should have realized this already”.

This is actually the first time that this hypothesis is discussed by the main characters. Before this, it was only fan theories, it hasn’t even been discussed in the manga yet. I was a bit surprised that this was discussed in the anime prior than the manga (assuming that it will be addressed one day in the manga).

I liked how they used the equation class parallel to show how some of the cards are alike, but it’s a bit frustrating that Sakura only listed the most obvious choices (FLIGHT, AQUA, GALE) instead of those that we are not entirely sure about their Clow Card counterpart (SEIGE, GRAVITATION, ACTION).

Don’t we love our little Naoko-chan following Ohkawa-sensei’s steps with writing scripts and all? ❤

So Yamazaki told a true story? But why didn’t his eyes open like in the old omake? =/

I just want to point out, before I forget, the different hairstyles of Sakura and Tomoyo. Not so much for Sakura since it’s just a headband, but Tomoyo’s one looks lovely.

They mention a piano recital to be held with another school. I wonder if that will be shown at all.

Did you all notice the tension between Syaoran and Yuna? You could cut it with a knife xD And Tomoyo noticed it.

The talk between Eriol and Syaoran was pretty close to the manga except that Eriol asked Syaoran whether his mother had told him about the British Magician Clan, as opposed to the manga in which he asked if his family had told him anything about them. This slightly change of words makes me believe that we might see Syaoran’s mother eventually.

They mentioned Eriol’s former house but so far no one has brought up the topic that the house was supposed to be demolished. Maybe it’s still not the time to address this issue or maybe it will simply never be addressed (I hope not).

During the talk, there is a strange shot in which the teddy bear and a solid-looking sphere appears. I couldn’t really tell what object is that sphere and I wonder if there’s more to it.

The dinner scene with Sakura and Touya shows how much they have grown and their relationship has evolved. There is still a tease in the air, but it’s less childish and they seem more grown up.

This was already noticeable since the last episode but in the scene where Sakura is washing the dishes it can be clearly seen in the calendar hanging on the wall that they are already in May.

It’s worth mentioning that Sakura was able to feel the card’s presence from that distance. I hope this will remain consistent in the following episodes, meaning that she will feel them easier from now on.

The battle scene was a bit of a let down for me. I was hoping for more action or strategically use of cards. So we have the second anime-only card: REVERSAL. I can’t seem to find a Clow Card counterpart for that either.

I thought the last scene with Tomoyo on the computer was too long and rather boring. Also, Kero said the camera fell off his head when he grabbed Sakura but you can still see the camera on his head the whole time?

Animation-wise, this episode was also good, except for very few faraway shots in which their faces looked half-done (always the faraway shots, always). We are halfway towards the end and the animation has been very consistent. We are more than safe since by now all animation teams have already worked on at least one episode. It can’t get any lower than this, which is great.

As I said, we’re exactly halfway there! Next episode should have a new anime-only card: HAIL.

  1. More than a few of the Clear Cards don’t have clear obvious connections to the Clow Cards, and cards like SNOOZE, ACTION, and APPEAR have counterparts in the show but not the comic, so I wonder if we’re getting slightly misled here? It’s weird that this episode featured both one-to-one comparisons of the cards and a new card that has absolutely nothing to do with the original set. (Unless you want to argue that REVERSAL is a combination of The Loop and The Through, but that’s a stretch, isn’t it?) We know Sakura’s wishes have occasionally been reflected in the Clear Cards, too, but whether that’s causation or just correlation is up in the air.

It’s interesting that the comparisons are being drawn between the Clear Cards and the Clow Cards, not the Sakura Cards, which really stuck out in this episode. That makes me wonder if Ohkawa and Asaka are planning to keep in the subplot that just heated up in Chapter 21 (trying to stay vague in case anybody commenting on this post isn’t up to date on the comic).

Yamazaki is the gift that keeps on giving. I thought that the thing with him opening his eyes whenever he told the truth was a joke, and that he only opened his eyes whenever Chiharu stepped on his foot?

I thought this particular battle costume was really unique, so I was happy to see it animated! Now it’ll hopefully enter the merchandise rotation, ahaha.

It’s gratifying but also a cruel to see that Syaoran’s taking his discussion with Eriol to heart and testing Akiho next episode. Like, on the one hand, good on Syaoran for connecting the dots and wanting to make sure that Akiho isn’t hiding something from everyone. On the other hand, poor Akiho, she didn’t sign up for this!

Could be, but I think not.

I noticed that too. Clow Cards are no longer a thing since Sakura Cards replaced them, but still they referred to them as Clow Cards.

I thought that the thing with him opening his eyes whenever he told the truth was a joke, and that he only opened his eyes whenever Chiharu stepped on his foot?
It could have been a joke but I would like them to keep it for consistency’s sake xD It’s no big deal but, oh well!

  2. We are half way through already, it passed so fast. Let me do some meta-analysis. The next episode, they will capture HAIL and that will be it for the first part. The only cards we know for the second part are APPEAR and BLAZE, plus the whateverthename earth card. With ten episodes to go, and only APPEAR and BLAZE left, plus the earth card, we will get to the bulk of the original cards in the second part.

The cardless episodes of the first series were 18, 34, 44 and 46 for the Clow Cards, and 47 and 65 for Sakura cards. 18 was the first visit to Masaki, cardless as in the manga; 34 was the rally, an original cardless episode just before the end of the first part of the Clow Cards; 44 and 46 where around the fight with Yue; 47, the first of the sakura cards; and 65, Touya passing his powers to Yue. With 6 cardless episodes on 70, that means not even 10%, so we could expect about 2 episodes, maybe less. With 10 episodes left, I would guess we will get with 22 cards, same as Tarot Major Arcana or 25, especially if there’s a movie. It could be 15 cards for the manga and 25 for the anime.

Thanks Tomoyo for voicing our thoughts! Ohkawa couldn’t have done that in the manga series, as that Tomoyo have never hear of SLEEP, but kudo for reflecting their own theories back to the fans. xD
lol at Xiaolang’s dark gaze as Sakura said Akiho was at her home too. He is more polite than back to the 90s series, but he sure still is the first to get suspicious. xD

Naoko mention her play again, I guess we will get a theater play episode in the coming episodes where Sakura will take a role. Thinking about it, maybe we will even get it in the manga. The sleeping beauty story was in tankoubon 5, maybe after they are done with Masaki, we will get to a theater play.

Next the boys comes, introducing episode 12 where they’ll do ball games. As they talk of badminton, Yamazaki is channeling his Piffle World counterpart who was giving factual report of the subject he was talking about. They were too long and too deep, but they were factual.

Encounter with Yuna and the chat with Eriol. I too hope we will see Yelan. ^_^
This came just after the capture of LABYRINTH in the manga, same here in the anime. There’s also chapter 16’s dinner scene. Next would be Sakura and Rika… wait, isn’t it an inter-school ball game event? We may get Rika next episode, with the Alice book scene, then sports.

We are half way through the anime series, but just a bit past the half of a 6 tankoubon series. It took 4 episodes to pass the first two tankoubon’s content; then 5 episodes for tankoubon 3 alone. Ohkawa should be able to go smoothly to episode 20, making 10 episodes out of tankoubon 4 and 5. We should have 3 more chapters, maybe 4 by the end of the series. Then an original ending or a bridge to the movie.

The penguin parc stuff are turned over, it reminds me of when they capture POWER in the first series. Although this card was more useful, REVERSAL is the dictionary definition of one trick pony. ^^; On a side note, the insurance premium in Tomoeda must be skyrocketing. ^^; The fight resolution wasn’t the most witty one, but Kero-chan thought of the solution this time, maybe it makes up for not being useful for LABYRINTH.

Overall, rythme was good even thought the plot is moving from one not to related scene to another. Seiyuu are as good as always, Xiaolang’s had quite a few scene where subtle feelings had to ooze through, I think they were all on spot. Music was following the flow, nothing stand out. Visual was up to the series standards. I’m quite glad with the series so far.

Staff: storyboard, Natusme Shingo, who did the same for episode 7. Episode director, Kikuchi Toshihiro, first time I hear of him. He’s also the action image director. The chara designer, Hamada Kunihiko is the image director dupervisor and Fujita Mariko is doing the rest of image direction. First time we read her name too.

“They mention a piano recital to be held with another school. I wonder if that will be shown at all.”
And who is playing piano? Rika! ^_^

“During the talk, there is a strange shot in which the teddy bear and a solid-looking sphere appears. I couldn’t really tell what object is that sphere and I wonder if there’s more to it.”
The sphere is transparent, we see the bear through it. Crystal ball maybe?

” Also, Kero said the camera fell off his head when he grabbed Sakura but you can still see the camera on his head the whole time?”
It’s definitely the moment the camera tilted to the right and was no longer facing forwards.

    • Thanks for the in-depth analysis!

I hope we will be seeing Rika indeed =)

I guess the Portuguese translation was wrong. Someone told me the same thing as you on twitter.

  3. I haven’t seen the episode yet but I am so so so excited at the mere mention of yelan li!! I loved her character in the movie, and I’ve wondered if they would actually introduce her in the manga with this current story line. I can only hope! I would absolutely love it if she was brought into this anime series. In fact I’d just love to see any of syaorans family. The much mentioned but never seen li family. ^^

  4. Yaaaay! Episode 11, we’re halfway through the ride! This is that one episode that makes you both think “wow, we’re already here” and “oh we’re inevitably going towards the finale, now”. It’s like this is the peak, and now there’s the bumpy ride to the last episode! We have yet to know if this will be it or if there is going to be another season, though.
So! Decent animation, personally there were episodes in which the style was more well-finished, but I can’t complain, this time the animation director was none other than Mariko Fujita!! With this information I can clearly see now the job of Hamada being the animation supervisor, other than the character designer, since the episode looks perfectly consistent with the style of the rest of the series, and if they didn’t tell in the credits that Fujita was in charge for this episode, I would have never noticed. I’m glad to know she’s back in the team and she hasn’t fucked it up (since I didn’t really like the moeish style she used in the recent years for CCS, yeah even that article of 2013).
So, finally the MEETING happened in anime version too! I expected Syaoran to be a little bit more anxious upon seeing Kaito, but I guess it’s nice even like this, with his anxiety building up concretely only later, when he called Eriol. He had the negative feeling kinda confirmed, after all.
I SEE it didn’t escape you that they changed Eriol’s word from “family” to “mother”, uh! I REALLY do hope this is a hint for Yelan’s appearance…it’s my very last wish for this anime!
And yeah, the cards similarity to the old ones. I was wondering why they referred to the Clow Cards and not the Sakura Cards (since they’re basically reborn under Sakura’s magic) but I guess it’s more efficient because the capture happened when they were still Clow Cards, so the comparison might be about something more than the mere power they have. (Just a side note: Yamazaki in that OVA opened his eyes only because Chiharu was stepping on his foot, it wasn’t an indication of him telling the truth like the naive kids believed at first XDD)
Overall I enjoyed this episode, yeah the card capture wasn’t much but I laughed a lot. Especially with Tomoyo at the end!!!
We keep on strolling down the reminescence lane, and it’s pretty apparent to me that it’s nor creativity laziness nor casuality at all. That couldn’t happen with Ohkawa, right?

Next episode, things get fired up!! A ball sports tournament for the whole school, yahoo!! We were missing these kind of events, right? I hope people can shut their mouth now *don’t be salty Cinzia, don’t be salty*
I can’t wait to see if my impression is right, that is, Syaoran purposedly paired himself against Akiho to try testing her nerves, to see if she hides something! AND we might be finally seeing him using THAT?? Saturday can’t come soon enough!!

    • It’s exciting to be on the latter half.

Oh, he looked pretty disturbed/curious/puzzled to me.

Oh, bless you and forgive my lack of memory xD

  5. i really really liked this episode!

ohhhh that mutual tension between syaoran and kaito was edgy as hell! i am super happy to see that scene animated. i loved the way kaito was like oh you girls can come round any time…… oh and you as well of course (smiles). i can imagine some passive aggressive talk between those two.

so for sure in both anime and manga sakura is somewhat immune/ unable to detect moon magic and may even be vulnerable to it. like how she was attracted/ goes all flotey around yukito, kaho and now kaito…

i feel bad for saying this but i felt underwhelmed with the capture. im sorry i know it sounds harsh but… compared to the last episode where she was very cool headed, in control, and effortlessly figuring out the strategies. in this episode she slipped back a couple of years and was more like she was when she was capturing the clow cards.

now that we’re just about half way through i feel like i can safely comment on the animation. i am just blown away by its consistency. i mean in every episode they all look gorgeous, and the style remains similar. in the orriginal 2 series it was wayyy more obvious there was more than one animator. the characters looks changed quite a bit throughout those series. from looking gorgeous, to awkward, to having ridiculously huge eyes. but in this series there is barely any change.

  6. Lol! My headcanon of tomoyo training kero and yue in technology was semi confirmed this episode! She’s going to put kero through filmography boot camp! And it seems she’s already taught him how to use his new gadgets. So I can fully imagine kero forcing the gadgets onto the XD

I don’t think I will ever forget murderous tomoyo face after hearing about the fil accident whilst in action XDDD
As a photographer and designer I can fully empathise there! She was like whoa I need a moment to breathe fire!

  7. Here is my guess for the parallel between Clow cards and Clear cards based on how they are used.
    GALE – The Windy
    SIEGE – The Shadow
    AQUA – The Watery
    REFLECT – The Mirror
    ACTION – The Move
    GRAVITATION – The Jump
    RECORD – The Return
    FLIGHT – The Fly
LUCID – The Illusion/ The Erase
SPIRAL – The Storm/ The Loop (I’m unsure since the card has not been used yet)
    SNOOZE – The Sleep
    LABYRINTH – The Maze
REVERSAL – The Change/ The Power (depending on how this card would be used)
HAIL – The Snow/ The Freeze
    APPEAR – The Create
    BLAZE – The Firey

      • While the word “siege” is closer to “shield”, Sakura uses The Shield as a defensive barrier. Meanwhile, she uses SIEGE in a more offensive way to enclose the target. That makes me think it is closer to The Shadow.

        Like

    • She used SPIRAL on chapter 17, it puts APPEAR into a kind of vortex cocoon where she could capture it without facing the wrath of the roll cakes.

As for which card equivalent it could be… THE STORM and THE LOCK maybe?

  8. A theory that I’ve had that no one else (that I’ve seen) seems to be posing: What if, rather than Kaito being Akiho’s guardian and she the mistress, it’s the OTHER WAY AROUND? He certainly seems more in control and seems to be “planting” Akiho to be near Sakura. And like Yukito was in the first series, she’s unaware and maybe has fake memories?

    Like

    • thats a good theory and makes sense. so like kaito being the sorcerer having earned his “D” title. momo is keros equivalent and akiho is yukitos equivalent and will eventually transform or whatever into yues equivalent.
