Card Captor Sakura Blu-ray & DVD Boxes – Art by CLAMP revealed (Updated)

The Card Captor Sakura official website announced today the new art drawn by CLAMP that will be used for the upcoming new Card Captor Sakura Blu-ray BOX & DVD BOX:

© CLAMP・Shigatsu Tsuitachi CO.,LTD. / 講談社

This version has been remastered for 4K resolution.

Both boxes will be released on December 22. More info: http://ccsakura-official.com/anime/box.html

The illustration sure is pretty but somehow it isn’t what I expected from a box illustration. I guess I would prefer one that would wrap itself around the entire box. Still, pretty!

Update: High quality versions of the box illustrations can be found here.

  1. Such wonderful new art and at such a completely unexpected moment!

I knew that the art on the storage boxes would be by CLAMP, but I wasn’t holding my breath waiting for it either, so it went out of my mind for a while haha~
So many revelations and surprises this week! 😀

I get what you mean by an illustration that goes from front to back, but I am still exceedingly and awfully happy with what we got: the many previous releases had no art by CLAMP, and the only one that did only had the front cover (the sakura and syaoran artwork in which they are both magicians wearing crowns).

I want a new artbook! I want it now! XD
But I know it’s not happening: the new art is one of the attractive points of these boxes, they are not just going to ‘give them away’ so easily and so fast by printing them elsewhere any time soon T__T

    • I like the illustration but somehow it’s not “box material” to me? The other one, with Sakura and Syaoran as magicians, feels more like box material to me. But it’s a gorgeous illustration nonetheless!

And yeah, we need a new artbook T-T We need two artbooks: one (or more) for Clear Card arc and one for all the new illustrations from the Clow and Sakura Card arcs.

      • They still stuck to one theme in the front and back so they did think about it haha~
And I’m certain it’s totally unrelated, but I couldn’t help myself from thinking about the splash of the final chapter in volume 12: Sakura was also flying away with a bouquet of flowers in her hands and wings ^^ Well, here she is just a cute flower fairy though, no deep meanings XD

I also would really like them to compile all the artworks that never made it into the 3 comic artbooks many years ago, plus all the crossover illustrations in which Sakura is often included too! But I’m not sure there are enough of those to make an artbook, at least not a tick one T__T
But adding everything up, there is definitely enough to release a new Illustration Book! 🙂

        • By my count, we’ve got 30 – 40 illustrations from 1996 – 2000 that were never reproduced, and 73 new illustrations produced after 2000 so far!

The second box illustration reminds me of both the CCS Cafe promotion image and the old group shots CLAMP churned out during the Sakura Card arc. The only difference is that since everyone now knows Eriol’s a grown man, CLAMP doesn’t have to include him anymore. 😂
