  1. Is Maruko (the short-haired girl) CLAMP’s first chubby character design? She looks so cute!

It’s funny how CLAMP always ends up echoing some of their earlier characters when doing designs for TV shows. The kids’ faculty advisor’s facial expressions are identical to Fujitaka’s in the Clear Card arc, while Hanamitsu (the guy posing with the sword) looks just like a black-haired Sakura from Gate 7.

I thought the same thing! I can’t remember if she is CLAMP’s first chubby character but they are sure rare to say the least! (which is a bit of a shame). I agree she does look cute.

Yes! And the guy two designs from him looks like Tachibana from GATE 7 himself, without even changing the hair color. I think it’s natural that they look similar. Plus, the first thing our minds cling to is the closest resemblance. But sure, they all have subtle differences that distinguish them from each other =)

  2. omg just noticed a little reference to the moomins cartoon! its at the bottom part in the second image. i dont know if anybody knows the moomins cartoon? it was originally an illustrated book by the Finnish illustrator and writer Tove Jansson that was made into a cartoon. here’s a link to the opening credits of the cartoon. but yeah the little blue creature is moomin and the guy with the green outfit and pointy hat is called snufkin.
lol this just made me so happy! i used to watch the moomins in the morning before i went to primary school. 😀

    hopefully the link works!

    • I actually noticed that that was the snusmumrika from the mumin trolls I didn’t think anyone else would notice 🙂 I’m swedish so the mumin trolls were a big part of my childhood.

  3. OMG! As an avid fan of CLAMP, I am engulf through their detailed artworks (which made me had the standard to only read and watch anime if it has good designs, lol) I learned drawing anime inspired from their style! I still have my artworks way back 15 years ago!

Sadly, some of its manga artwork did not receive justification in detailed artworks when adapted to animation like xxxHOLIC (which is my favorite, in terms to details because UGH! YUUKO!) and many more! The only adaptation I was satisfied was the animation in x/1999, Tsubasa Shunraiki, Chobits, CCS and Clear card Arc.

Going back to KABUKIBU! The designs reminded me of everything, the color combination and resemblance of each characters. I want to point out that CLAMP has signature style when you look closely to characters eye patterns.

I could talk all day, in discussing CLAMP! try me! haha
