Again we are spoiled 2 months in a row with a color title page. This one is really nice and very CLAMPy. They are mirrored and tangled and you can only tell them apart by their eyes.

I can’t really say what’s going on (I need a translation badly) but Watanuki was finally able to peek at the Syaorans and he didn’t need Mokona for that, probably because of the connection he has with the clone.

What are those marks in Syaoran’s hands…?!

The chapter seems to center around the duality of Nirai Kanai, and at the end of the chapter it seems like the tree (or was it Nirai Kanai?) spoke to Syaoran…

25 pages this month. I expected way less than that! 53 pages for volume 3 so far.

  1. So. I wonder what’s up with the Horitsuba comic?

Anyway, this chapter is making me wonder about the future of the series. If the clones get reincarnated along with the rest of the dead trapped in the other Nirai Kanai, then that’s basically the resolution to TWC and TRC as a whole, isn’t it? But Syaoran brings up the possibility of reincarnating Yuuko for Watanuki’s sake, too, and we know that’s pretty much not going to happen (since TWC and xxxHolic Rei take place before the ending of xxxHolic Rou, where we see Watanuki’s still waiting for Yuuko). Is there going to be some kind of catch to the reincarnation deal that will keep Syaoran from saving the dead spirits? Or is it going to be, “Whoops, sorry! Everybody’s going to get reincarnated except for your parents! Keep looking!”, and then Syaoran and co. will head on to a new world, changing the series title to “Tsubasa WoRLD CHRoNiCLE: ~Insert New Mythological Place Name Here~”?

    • The Holitsuba short comic is now up on my site as well =) Check it out!

since TWC and xxxHolic Rei take place before the ending of xxxHolic Rou, where we see Watanuki’s still waiting for Yuuko

I’m not so sure about that… I’m pretty sure XXXHOLiC Rei takes place after XXXHOLiC Rou. What we are seeing now (Watanuki bringing the tea trail) is happening in real time, isn’t it?

      • Thanks so much!

Rei is happening in real time, but isn’t the Doumeki we see now Doumeki Shizuka? Back in Chapter 40, Doumeki mentions his professor in college, and in Watanuki’s subsequent dream with Haruka, Haruka confirms that Doumeki is his grandson (not his great-great-grandson, who appears at the end of Rou). CLAMP could still be fudging around with the language to try and trick the readers into thinking this is a straight sequel to Rou, but I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to take place sometime in the interim.

        • Hummmmm so many questions… I haven’t considered the grandson/great-grandson thing.
So in your theory “Rou” was a glimpse of the future and “Rei” is happening right now. Okay. That could be the case too.

But what do you say about Watanuki’s glasses? That’s Clow’s glasses that he found in Rou, right? He’s wearing them in Rei.

          • I don’t remember whether Watanuki found the glasses before or after Doumeki Shizuka died, but I think it was before! That would mean Rei is currently taking place in the middle of Rou, between the point where Watanuki changes glasses and the epilogue.

Also, psst — almost everybody misses this, but did you notice that the glasses aren’t actually Clow’s? Watanuki’s glasses have arms, but Clow’s didn’t. Yuuko and Clow must have predicted that he’d need them in the future, hence both of their seals being in the box along with the glasses.
