BLOOD-C #1

The BLOOD-C TV Anime started its broadcast today in Japan. The first episode script was written in partnership between Nanase Ohkawa and Junichi Fujisaku. I believe all episodes will be written by the duo (and likely the movie script as well).

You can download the RAW torrent here and the subbed version here (by Underwater fansubs).

My first impressions are (spoilers ahead):

– I think Saya’s character is weird… is she genki? Is she dark? Somehow her genkiness doesn’t really fit in the “BLOOD” franchise to me. I never watched the other BLOOD works but I know it’s dark stuff. Maybe I’ll get used later xD

– That singing scene was completely random and unnecessary (the worst thing is that I think this was Ohkawa’s idea, I can so see her composing the lyrics. She is not Kobato, Ohkawa! xD)

– In fact, Saya’s “kindness” really annoys me, she can’t get on time for class because she is always doing good deeds on her way to school? C’mon… xD

– Animation quality was OK. It was watchable for me. (Much) Better than the XXXHOLiC anime, at least. Still don’t think PRODUCTION IG is good enough for CLAMP (or maybe they don’t want to be).

– The OP is very cool but it was a big mistake to choose that type and color for the credits. Also the episode title (dark red in black background? WTH!).

– It’s interesting to watch a CLAMP anime without really knowing what’s going to happen next =) It’s an unusual and exciting experience!

  1. I haven’t looked at people’s reception yet… so it hasn’t been a good one? No wonder, it’s a little weird this genkiness and bloodiness. But like you said, it will probably get darker later. It’s CLAMP after all.

    • Well, for some like those who are non-CLAMP viewers, it’s not good. Three first impression reviewers of ANN gave it a 2/5. But yeah, it’s only the 1st episodes and I’ve seen tons of narrow-minded idiots in some forums who said that the show sucks. Anyway, let’s just see it in 3-4 episodes if the show really has potential.

I wish it would be 2 cour show but this is show is 1 cour (12 episodes).

  2. Thanks

Thank you chibiyuuto for updating and being the most reliable clamp resource for me, your website is in my favorites and I can’t wait to watch the first episode of Blood-C.^_^

  3. Imo, this first eps is weird. I can’t make out Saya’s character. Normally is honest and kind-hearted girl but so cold and doesn’t even blink when the monster’s blood sprayed everywhere ON her. It is too contradictory. Except if all those kindness is actually a facade to cover her morning slaying monster ritual. Beside, I have a strong doubt whether the person she called father is her real father.

Among all Clamp’s series, I think this OP and ED are the least impressing…

In overall, Blood-C is kinda disappointing though I won’t be dropping it at all…

  4. Very disappointing… The random singing sequence gave me second hand embarrassment XDDD The character of Saya is very strange, but NOT in a good, intriguing way. It’s like a lot of random pieces of personality carelessly put together. Oh, and I’m tired of the cute clumsy girl thing.

    I hope it gets better…

  5. I saw the whole BLOOD series. Blood+ was lovely.
Blood C it too kawaii (for now, ofc) to be part of this series. In Blood+ they only fought and it was more frightening, even sunset was frightening.
Ofc, singing was Ohkawa doing xDD

  6. The singing part strangely reminded me of my neighbour totoro – but in a she’s-a-creepy-weird-girl way. The animation seems pretty standard fare for anime though.

What I don’t like about Saya’s design is that often the hair from her ponytails (?) seems to become bushy and thin at different points in a really annoyingly cheaply animated way ignoring that the rest of it is animated better than cheap cheap.

Yuuka-chan,…..I instantly hated her – she is like Tatsuki from BLEACH.

I am just very disappointed cause I wanted this to be really cool but it was instead overly cute. 😦 I wanted more a feel like the X movie.

  7. cool

this first episode is good, Saya character is more human, even too human, but I think she changes soon, the universe is too clampish, and don’t match with the story.
The two sister who are like Maru and Moro are annoying, the tomboyish girl is really interesting.
The song that Saya sang is cute, i think is just a touch a fantasy, in this dark world, and the fight between Saya and the monster is just a small present to the viewers before serious things.
Have you noticed, when Saya sang a thing followed her.

  8. I’m so late, I just downloaded the five first episodes, I hope I’ll be able to keep the pace after this rush. ^^;

My impression of the first episode:

There was too many long scene with too little action or conversation. I hope the next episodes with be more intense.

Saya remind me a bit too much a Kobato, no, a mix between Arashi and Kobato in fact, this mix is weird. o.O

The support characters feel quite shallow, it doesn’t feel like anyone put any care in shaping their personnalities, they are just walking cliché. I hope this is just a façade to surprise us somewhere down the road.

    The fight started as a bit too repetitive, but it get better as things went on. I was afraid it would be seriously pathetic at first, after the long wait and three useless sword strike. ^^;

I like the hues they use a lot, I like redish and blueist hues the most and this suits my tastes perfectly. Much better than xxxHolic’ colors. Maybe it would have been better to have is darker and greyer, like the first Blood movie, but I like this series colors better, so I don’t mind.

Overall, Code Geass’s first episode was more appealing, but I’ll be watching it through.

My take is she’s dark, but act genki to avoid suspicion. We’ll probably get to it later.

At least it gave us a good glace at landscape, but I think they should have made Saya do her crazy helping, because I for one thought she was just carefree and invented cover up stories to get out of trouble.

    > In fact, Saya’s “kindness” really annoys me, she can’t get on time for class because she is always doing good deeds on her way to school? C’mon… xD

The whole town is probably in it. “Why bother trashing my garbage, Kaya will do it, I’ll just leave them a few step from the door.” ^_^

They did a good job for the Tsubasa movie, the problem is we are stuck with xxxHolic’s director which has hard time to make these long bodies move realistically and probably encourage his staff not to bother so he would not look weak when his the one in charge. ¬_¬

Much bettre than the Tokyo Babylon Drama at least. ^_^

  9. After watching the first episode and reading through the comments here I have nothing to add accept that I hate the characters. They all seem SO flat and Saya is just WTF? I agree with most of the criticisms here too. CLAMP I am not impressed.
