Tsubasa OVA Announcement!

Now it’s official!

Kodansha had updated their website for Tsubasa #19 where we could see the cover with the belt. In the belt, there was the announcement of an Original Animation for DVD.

The title of the OVA will be TSUBASA TOKYO REVELATIONS and it’s due to 2008.

I wrote that Kodansha had updated it because the image is no longer available (apparently they took it off because they didn’t want the news to leak). I didn’t see it, but I know some people have.

Apparently, the DVD will be a limited edition for those who purchase volumes 21 to 23, starting on November 16th with the release of volume 21.

These information are subject to change since I still need to see that cover, but one thing is sure: the OVA has been confirmed!

More information as they come!!

  1. *falls over dead* That is fantastic news. Simply fantastic. I can’t wait to see how this turns out and I hope if nothing else someone is kind enough to share the dvd with all of us.

    • I’m willing for more information. Who’s going to animate it, speacially!

Oh and if there’s going to be a XXXHOLiC one too (probably since CLAMP said it was a Tsubasa + XXXHOLiC project ^^)

      • I would dearly love for it to be Madhouse but doesn’t Bee Train own the rights to animate Tsubasa?

Yes, that’s a very good question. Because you can’t really do this arc without Yuuko in it and if there’s two rival animation companies involved… I guess we’ll see soon enough.

  2. I don’t understand what they mean by purchasing 3 different volumes — will the DVD be a send-away item that only folks in Japan can get? (if so, that sucks)

  3. Yay for TRC OVA~! I hope it will be animated by Madhouse.

By the way in your lest entry i commented that i have the episode of wanna gonna that have CLAMP in it, if you didn’t saw it i can sand the links to you but i don’t have the file himself. If you did saw if I guess that i just missed something on your LJ. >>

  4. Yay but then I’m sad because I don’t live in Japan so I won’t get it, and if I buy it from Amazon.co.jp it won’t have any subtitles. Hopefully, someone will upload with subtitles online??

    • Even if it looks like it won’t be available in stores, I think that we shall definitely see a raw and thus, a subtitled version. Definitely. We’ve listened to the Drama CDs which were also available only through application forms so this is definitely going to happen with the OVA, too ^^

It’s what we were waiting for!
It will be probably announced on Wednesday’s chapter *__* I’m sure the OVA will be a great sucess if CLAMP is in the project (maybe with Madhouse?), but how could Tokyo arc connected with the probably xxxHOLiC OVA? O_o

Thanks for the great news! and we’ll look for more this Wednesday!

    • >It’s what we were waiting for!

      Oh yeah it is!

      >It will be probably announced on Wednesday’s chapter *__*

I don’t think so… because they promised that it would come with the belt of vol. 19, which comes out only Friday =/

      >maybe with Madhouse?

      If BeeTrain animates it I shall ONLY watch it because Ohkawa wrote it. Half of my excitement will be over if it’s BeeTrain who’s doing it. Honestly, they can’t do that to us ;__;

      >but how could Tokyo arc connected with the probably xxxHOLiC OVA? O_o

They can do the arc with the corpse lady… where Watanuki had to fill bottles of water, for the Tokyo people, remember? But I don’t see how Spider Lady’s arc can connect with Tokyo.

        >They can do the arc with the corpse lady… where Watanuki had to fill bottles of water, for the Tokyo people, remember? But I don’t see how Spider Lady’s arc can connect with Tokyo.

Well, in the Spider lady arc, there was an intermission between the first part with the spider + bookworm and the last part with the spider lady. So maybe they’ll change the murderess’s photo’s case (which has already been animated) with the corpse at the well’s case. So the Holic OVA story will be in four part, the spider and bookworm, the corpse and the well, the spider lady and finally, Watanuki’s fall.

        Like

          • Hum … if they cut the bookworm part and the fall throught the window part, then make Watanuki getting half of Doumeki’s eye the end of Watanuki’s problem (and therefore the end of the series), it might be cramped enough to fit into an OVA length.

            Like

      • But it was announced this chapitre would bring “great Tsubasa news”, if it’s not the OVA, what could it be? XD

Now you say it, it can be XD 30 minutes of Wata & Domeki filling bottles up and down, LOL

  6. That’s good I guess.
I’m no sure if I should watch it though, the anime scared me, and I’ve always had issues with getting my version of the voices destroyed…
But then again, it’s oh so tempting.

Thank you very much for the news! ^__^

    • Well, Ohkawa from CLAMP wrote the script for it, so it’ll be faithful. As for the animation, we don’t know yet but I hope it’s MADHOUSE (otherwise it shall scare it as well ^^”)

      You’re welcome!

  7. Yeeeessssssss! I want the Tokyo arc in animation. I really love the OVA of Rayearth, so the tsubasa ova there will be like Rayerath?, with all the violence, blood, etc…
    I´m so happy. thanks chibiyuuto.

    Like

    • Well, Rayearth OVA had an original story and Tsubasa’s one will follow the manga. So it’s going to be a little different. But the animation must be better than an ordinary TV anime episode, that’s for sure.

You’re welcom, glad to have made you happy ^___^

  12. So it was a Tsubasa tokyo OVA! That’s good News! ^_^

Although the part about collecting coupon on Tsubasa 21, 22 and 23’s obi isn’t. These things will get pricy on Yahoo auction and that’s unfair for us foreigners who will buy these three book on the release date anyway and even worse for foreigner like Ali-san who buy both the deluxe tankoubon and the shounen magazine. ¬_¬

And what’s even worse is that it doesn’t bode well for Infiny, Celes-koku and whatever else country that are to come to get animated. If it wasn’t a privilege OVA, it would be easy turn this single OVA into a series, but this way it will be difficult to get a good idea of how well a second OVA, avalable to anyone to buy, would sell …

But at least we’ll get Tokyo animated, so I shouldn’t complain. ^_^

    Like

    • Huh, the truth is that if we get to see it, even illegally so (and hell, doesn’t this promotes it?), I would be happy.

So I really exhort the japanese to share their goods. XD

      • I know I won’t be able to stop myself from getting it. It’s an OVA written by Ohkawa for good’s sake, I won’t be able to stop the fangirl impulse … ^^;

Although, the cheap privilege Clamp no Kiseki chese piece case that was sold at 1600¥ for the one who collected the magaine is sold around 20,000¥ on auction, that’s more than x10! I don’t dare to imagine who much that OVA will cost. o.O

        … 50,000¥ … 70,000¥ … … … 100,000¥ … T_T

        Like

        • Ow. I thought you were complaining about the unavailability of the OVA, not about the prices. Damn my reading comprehension.

This CLAMP’s tendency of doing everything limited really bugs me. You will think they are in badly need to sell their volumes, figures of CLAMP in 3D Land…

          Like

          • Well, I was complaning that the unavailability will cause the price to get wild, so you weren’t all wrong. ^_~

About the limited edition, this time it maybe because of the magazine editor, maybe they are affraid that potential shounen magazine readers will be scared away by the OVA, because the TV anime sure wasn’t heading this way. So by making people buy three tankoubon, the potential readers will know what is to come and won’t get scared by the Tokyo arc OVA.

            Like

            • Yeah, of course, but still. That way almost only the people who have read till 20 will have the OVA (it’s kind of counter-productive in winning readers), and it is limited. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me I think it is really inconvenient for a widespread manga. Maybe I’m wrong. ^^;

              Like

    • I found the limited thing VERY weird and so unpredictable. My first thought was: they wanna sell tankoubons. Then I thought again for a second, and it all made sense to me. We are seeing how Tsubasa sales have dropped hugely, I think they want to boost it up with the release of this limited OVA.

I just hope that this doesn’t mean lower animation quality.

And yes, this OVA won’t come out until the release of volume 23, which shall not be released before March/2008, at the very least. Unless they have a plan B, I’m predicting that Tsubasa’s anime will remain unconcluded xD

      Like

      • But that’s such a bad way to conclude anything, Syaoran is in fact an evil clone created by Feiwang and replaced by a new Syaoran no one feel easy with, Fay is turned into a vampire and is sulking Kurogane, Sakura start to act on her own and Kurogane is stuck to make the team work together …

Well, unless Ohkawa turn this OVA into a decent ending with … say … Syaoran was never the evil clone, bat!Syaoran was. Let’s say Xinghuo set bat!Syaoran free, so this one get all the remaining feathers before coming in Tokyo. Meanwhile Feiwang kill Xinghuo. When bat!Syaoran get in Tokyo, Syaoran, Kurogane and Fay succeed to kill him, Sakura get all of her feather. Then Fay dare to use his magic and they are all sent to Feiwang’s hindout, they kill him and everybody live happily ever after. (although that’s a lot to do in a single OVA).

I looked the deluxe Tsubasa 18 and 17’s pic to see how it was named and where it was stored. The named is the ISBN + .gif and they are stored at http://shop.kodansha.jp/bc/gif/80/ and http://shop.kodansha.jp/bc/gif/77/ .

So I wrote the ISBN + .gif and changed two digit number starting with 80 until I got the picture at 96. ^_~

            > Demo, doesn’t it look like it’s going to be THREE OVAs? One for each tank? O.o

I didn’t give much thought to it after I decipher the all these kanji, but now you mention it, the OVA seems to come along the 21th tankoubon, as long as you buy it and that there will be three OVA in all. It sound like extra for the deluxe edition alone, the standard edition is just too little to hide a DVD in its pages, while A5 format is the CDcomics’s format. And deluxe edition buyers are use to give more money to get extras, so it would make sense to get the first print deluxe edition cost more like they did wih Chobits.

3 OVAs, omg, that would be total bliss! But I hope not ALL three will be about Tokyo (something tells me they will, though >.

              Like

              • I also think all three will be about Tokyo, the ad says:

オリジナルアニメションDVD付属定 [I can’t read the last kanji]
                「ツバサ TOKYO REVELATIONS」21巻11月15日発売決定!
                *以後23巻まで3巻連続刊行予定

like “Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations” is the title of all three DVDs. Which doesn’t mean it will only be about the Tokyo contents, we might get a glipse at Fay’s past and stuff that are to comes. Anyway, I believe the end of the last OVA will be the end of the story, which will be different from the manga’s ending.

                Like

                  • I don’t think there will be more than three OVAs, this OVA series must be Tsubasa’s anime’s last chance. Likely, the series got this last chance only because of Ohkawa’s lobbying. Even the distribution system is so unusual that it looks like the very last resort, like they couldn’t get a regular distributor involved (either because the project was too risky or because of the rights). And it also depends of how many Tsubasa tankoubon are still to come, if it stop at number 23, there’s no point in making an open ending to these OVAs.

No, I really think three OVAs is as far as Ohkawa can postpond the Tsubasa anime’s ending.

I would love if there was the case (to end on 23), but it’s not happening. Damn 28!

Indeed, we are lucky fans. ^_^ Especially since very few mangaka are able to handle anime supervision, that helps Clamp a lot (the only other I know of is the writter of Akira).

                      > I would love if there was the case (to end on 23), but it’s not happening. Damn 28!

It’s confirmed? I was still hoping it would be over by the end of the year, so no new series before 2009 then … -_-

The abcense of Chronicle or even Reservoir Chronicle seems they are avoiding copyright conflict with BeeTrain/Production I.G. Not that it had to be madhouse, but they are sure taking legal distance from the tv series and the movie. ^_^
