Kobato back on October !!

It’s official now ! On the latest Newtype magazine (July edition, the same one with the Code Gears pages), it has been announced that Kobato will restart it’s publishing on the November issue of Newtype Magazine.

Since Newtype issues come one month before the month in it’s title (in this case, November), the magazine will be out on October.

And since there’re no tanks released yet, I’m not sure if they’ll publish the story from the very 1st chapter again or if they’ll continue from chapter 8 and on.

Either way, Newtype means Shogakukan is no longer Kobato’s publisher, but Kadokawa. And call me stupid but I didn’t know Newtype published mangas as well… the idiot here thought Newtype was an anime-only magazine.

I don’t even need to say how happy I am after this news ^_______^

Thank you VERY much for dragosmore who let me know about this amazing news !

  1. the dumb here

You’re thinking “o idiota,” right? In English you can’t do with “dumb” because it’s an adjective– and if you use a noun, this form sounds better: “this idiot here” or just “this dumbass.” (

    • Oh no, PLEASE correct me ! I’m still learning, I do mistakes all the time, and I don’t wanna sound stupid (more than I already am XDDDD)

Thank you ! I’m fixing it right now !! ^__^

      >why was it relatively quick to get KOBATO a new publisher?
I KNOW !!!!!!!! I mean, isn’t that what’s going on with X? They could have exchanged Kobato for X XDDDDDDDDDD That way, Shogakukan published X’s end.

I’m VERY excited as well !!! I was so worried !

    • MiyukiChan in wonderland and Gakuen Tokkei Duklyon were published in Newtype in the old days ! ^__^
The ugliest Five Star Stories (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_Star_Stories) and the pretty cute Angel Dust (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/manga.php?id=2672) and his sequel Angel Dust Neo were published in Newtype as well.
I thought Clamp ‘ll never draw for Kadokawa after X’s incident. It’s great they will ^__^ Kadokawa is the not so worst part of Clamp history…

      • Indeed Miyuki-chan and Duklyon are under “newtype comics 100%”, but I thought it was a random classification, you know? For example, GD #3 is under “Asuka Comics DX” even if it was fully published in “Asuka” magazine.

        >I thought Clamp ‘ll never draw for Kadokawa after X’s incident.
Well, they stated that there’s no fight between them, that it was an agreement from both parts, BUT, yeah, I didn’t think they would be back at Kadokawa before X’s end.

I was surprised when I first knew Clamp were published in Newtype, but they did.
You’ll see that the pages’ size are kinda…weird. See MiyukiChan and Duklyon books size…

          • Indeed again ! But I think it so fits Kobato’s “clean” mood ^^ I do wonder now, however, if they’ll have to redraw the whole 1st volume in order to fit th magazines’s proportions O.o

        • Wrong! 20 Mensou, Duklyon and Miyuki-chan were publish in a Newtype related magazine, the Newtype Comic Genki and the Newtype Comic Genki no Moto. They were way smaller than the Newtype, they contained around 130 pages of a dozen of comic series. That would be the fist time Clamp get to be published in the Newtype.

          • Aha! A word of wisdom XD
Thanks for clarifying the whole thing ! I knew there was this Comic Genki in some place…

However, the format was still kinda bigger than usual, right? Hence Miyuki-chan’s big tank.

          • Wait a minute…. isn’t Comic Genki a SUPPLEMENT of Newtype? Like they didn’t sell it separatedly? If that’s so, then I don’t know if we should consider it as a “magazine”.

            • On the cover it’s written 増刊, addition + publish. My online dictionnary translate this as “special edition”. The same word is written on my South cover (Wings special edition sold separately), my X compilation magazines (Asuka special edition sold separately), my Kid’s cover (Comic Box special edition sold separately) and my adds about the Mystery DX, the Fantasy DX and the Comedy DX magazine (all special edition of the Asuka sold separately). In the Clamp News, it’s written 20 Mensou, Duklyon and Miyuki were publishe in the Newtype Comic Genki (no Moto) so I suppose they expected the fans to buy it as an independant title in the stores …

Miyuki, 20 Mensou and Duklyon are in the Newtype 100% Comic collection, but that doesn’t mean they were serialised in the Newtype itself; Wish, Suki. Dakara Suki and Gouhou Drug are in the Asuka Comic DX collection, but they weren’t serialised in the Asuka (in fact, X is in the Asuka Comic collection).

Well, I don’t know for sure, because I knew very little of Japan back in the early 90 (I was way too young ^^;), so I have never seen a brand new Newtype Comic Genki, but everything seems to lead to an independant issue sold separately.

As for the size of the magazine, it’s not bigger than usual, but smaller, A5, like Rg Veda’s Wings Magazine. So it got bigger with the A4 tankoubon. ^_^

  3. That’s nice to know. Also, it’s much much easier to find Newtype rather than the other magazine it published in. Plus, the trim size for NT means better scanning ^_^ (I should know, I’ve scanned enough of those pages…)

WORD ! Specially when that “other magazine” is a total unknown Sunday GX XDDDD

  4. This is indeed good news, however I’m concerned with the fact that Kobato has changed publishers – I wonder what was the reason for that. (A fight with Shogakukan?) I’m also worried that because of this, the release of Kobato’s first tank might be delayed even further. (Licence troubles, etc.) However, let’s not be pessimistic: I think that there might be a sliiight chance of Kobato not being only a seasonal publication anymore ^_^

    • I heard (I mean, my friend translated some parts of CnK’s Kobato interview) that the editors didn’t ask for them to start working on the tankohon (I mean, cover design, book design, etc). I’m assuming that Kobato didn’t have a nice “reception” of GX’s readers. Which is COMPLETELY understandable since they are used to totally different kind of manga.
Starting Kobato in a magazine aimed for Young men, where dark series are being runned, it’s a very risky thing.

So I think they didn’t have a very nice feedback. Because the manga was in the wrong magazine.

    • Well, not really… CLAMP never “fought” with Kadokawa.

X’s hiatus was decided by BOTH CLAMP and Kadokawa, it was an agreement of both parts and CLAMP said in that same interview that the publisher has no fault whatsoever.

So, in theory, they have no fault, and CLAMP never was in bad relations with Kadokawa.

By the time I did that post, remember? I didn’t know about this last bit of information ^^” So I blamed it all on Kadokawa xDDD BUT, I still think that Kadokawa was the first one to give the IDEA of putting X on hold (and then CLAMP agreed).

  5. ^_^ that is very happy news indeed. thank you, Chibiyuuto-san and to dragosmore.

I wonder why it got picked up by Kadokawa’s Newtype and not Shogakukan?

    Like

    • I’m not sure about that either. Maybe Shogakukan didn’t have a proper magazine? But it doesn’t seem like it, they have tons of shoujo magazines I believe.

This is the first time, I -think-, that a CLAMP manga changes publishers O.o

    • Yes ! I meant that post indeed ! I was hoping for August, though.

      >i wonder if it’ll be in newtype USA
I wondered that too ! Do they publish the mangas that run in it? I know some of the content is changed, but I’m not sure about the manga serializations.

  7. New Kobato… Woo hoo! That’s great news!

But if it’s changing publisher, does this mean that there won’t be a tank?

On the other hand, if this has changed publisher, perhaps some of the other un-finished works can change too? Or am I just being hopeful 🙂

    • They are doing a LOT of marketing strategy at least for the next few issues which will contain CLAMP supplements (they have 23 pages !), cover illustrations and all that ! Everything is being warmed up for Kobato’s opening ^^
