I don’t know why do I get so much more pleased when I’m about to write a XXXHOLiC review than when I am to write one for Tsubasa… is it because I am liking it more? O.o Maybe…
The first scenes are quite originals since we didn’t get to see Doumeki’s tournament itself on the manga, but it was very nice with lots of gray people moving around *is in love for the gray people, feel free to roll your eyes xDDD* and Watanuki also didn’t put the arrow above Doumeki’s head, which is funnier XD
I love the scene where he finds the Oden Shop… first, because Watanuki’s nose sniffing the smell is TEH nicest thing ever, second, because Fukuyama is brilliant as always, and third, we get to listen to a new track of the soundtrack and mind you, I really like it ! XD
The Oden Shop:
What can I say? Just PERFECT ! We get to listen to another new track of the soundtrack… and isn’t it also perfect? It’s the perfect song for a weird but awesome place ! XD
When Watanuki finds the little fox for the first time, they actually stare at each other for sometime around 6 seconds XDDDDDDDDDDD One can say that since this episode had quite a small content (since it’s about 2 short arcs, only), they opted to make that scene very long in order to make the episode longer. But in the end, the scene is still great since you get to REALLY understand, by the 6-secs of silence, that the situation is very strange XD
The big Fox:
What can I say again? PERFECT ! And here I really mean it ! His seiyuu is just amazing ! His laugh is awesome and I love his politeness (and maybe the funny accent too?).
You know also how this scene is so nice? Because -everytime- I watch it I get hungry and I want to immediately go to the kitchen to prepare some japanese food (even if by japanese food I mean “ramen” ¬¬). The sound of the boiling water, the steam coming out of it, the beautiful oden, Watanuki eating it, it ALL counts to make hungry >…<
Watanuki at Yuuko's shop:
I love this piece of scene. First because I like the song it's playing, second because Yuuko gets just as crazy for the oden as she did in the manga, third because Mokona is really sounding like Mokona when he (I'm going to call him "he", okay?) says "Ato, sake!" XD and forth because the whole scene is very funny. Pay attention to when Watanuki screams to Mokona just after he claims for Sake, they added a SFX that is very funny resembling a
… I don't know what XDD It's just very funny. I really like the SFXs for this series.
Just one thing to notice, Yuuko is using the kimono she used for the Ame Warashi arc (the first kimono, you can even see on the color page of vol 5). I wonder what clothes will she wear when that arc happens O.o
Now on to the Shiritori itself.
The winged bag is here~ cool ! However, at this part of the episode one can tell again that they kinda of made things take longer than necessary so that the episode would have enough material for 20 minutes. Like how they show the shadows for seconds… then Watanuki for seconds… then the Moon for seconds… and so on XDDD On the other hand, one can also tell that it was all good to keep the climax XD
Then we get to listen to the first track featuring an action song, and it's quite nice O.o
The shiritori scene is… long XDDDDDDDDD Much longer than we actually needed. But it's understandable, again, since this episode didn't have enough material for 20 minutes. But it was quite cool, anyway, with all the noises and action going on you get really really desperate and into the scene.
So he gets to the Oden shop:
The little fox saying "Ah ! Hane no Onii-chan!" is the cutest thing EVA— ! XDDDDDDDDD Ah, how I love this little foxy XDDD
And Mokona says "Yo! Hisashiburi !" to the big fox, so they knew each other, cool !
Speaking of Mokona, just when I say bad things about her (Mika-chan) on last episode, she gets better. She's sounding much more like Larg than before (first the "Ato Sake!" and now this "Yo! Hisashiburi!"). Because it's not really the animators' fault, because they do animate him well, Mika is just starting to notice the difference between Soel and Larg. For example, she's definitely more genki and girly when she's playing Soel in Tsubasa but she still sounds quite annoying when she says “Tsuki mi sake! Tsuki mi sake!”.
The birds…
So they changed things in order to make it suitable for this episode and also in order to cut the Tsubasa links, so Yuuko sent the birds to the big Fox (he seriously needs a proper name !!!) instead of the old man and his house full of bat wings à la Fei Wang. How very sweet of Yuuko to give such a present for the big Fox.
Oh, and the big Fox says that “In this world”, we can only see them by the full moon’s light. Someone with two brain cells can picture that, by his sentence, there are more than one world (at least a tiny Tsubasa reference).
The birds aren’t -quite- like that. I mean, his wings are a bit different than that, but one can definitely relate them to CLOVER’s birds so I’m happy already ^_^
And I spotted a mistake here at the scene where the birds are flying towards the full moon. Actually, we aren’t supposed to be able to see them, since we can only see their SHADOWS, and a shadow has to be projected into some solid area. And the middle of the night’s air is NOT solid xDDDDDDD So it’s a logical mistake made by the animators… but nothing too big.
Ahahaha the Fox asks the birds to come back before the moon sets XDDD Of course, because he won’t be able to see them later XDDDD
I think it’s clear that I totally loved this episode XD For an episode with only 30 pages or so of manga to be based on, the result is very very good ! They even managed to get Doumeki’s arrow to some use later. They melted both arcs very nicely, you can’t even notice that they are different arcs. It would be a total shame to have them cut out of the series just because they are small.
So, the good points were:
– Nice OST (specially the tracks at the oden sequence).
– EXCELLENT Seiyuus (I’m gonna miss the big Fox u.u).
– Everything at the Oden Shop.
– Yuuko being all crazy for the oden.
– Nice merge of both arcs.
Not-that-good points XD (I won’t call them “bad” points because I really think the episode was very good):
– Shiritori sequence too long? I wouldn’t mind more of the Foxes. But you can say that since it was the episode title, they better give the proper attention to it…
Anime News:
Staff for episode 7 – Hydrangea:
Script: Ageha Ohkawa
Storyboard: Tsutomu Mizushima (Movie and Series’ main director).
Episode Director: Makoto Baba (Directed episode 2)
Animation Director: Fumiko Urawa (couldn’t find any info about her).
Well, what can I say? …….. FINALLY Ohkawa-sensei is writting a script for the series !!!! *___* I expected her to take care of this one since it involves one of the Warashis. I am guessing that she’ll be in charge of all the Warashi-related episodes since they are quite important to character development.
This will be a hell of an episode ! Not only Ohkawa is writing it, but Tsutomu Mizushima is taking care of the storyboard (he did for episode 1). Episode 2 was bad compared to the others, yeah, and we are having the same director, but the problem with that episode wasn’t at the direction and more at the animation.
As for Fumiko Urawa, I couldn’t find any info on her, but her job is to make sure the animation is good stabilized, and by the preview of it at the end of episode 6, the animation is looking very nice O.o
The seiyuu for Ame Warashi is going to be Akiko Yajima. She has a splendid profile and you can check a sample of her voice skills at her official site. I personally think she’s perfect.
In other words: I CAN’T WAIT—-! *-*
(Ne, amewarashi-san, I guess you couldn’t be happier either that Ohkawa is taking take of the episode where Ame Warashi shows up ! ^__^).

Brief summary: Apparently the episode is about a man with the same sympthoms as the lying woman from episode 2.

The BigFox’s seiyuu is just perfect! I really loved his “Oya! Oya!” ’cause for some reason I like that sound ^-^ The LittleFox and his seiyuu were so cute I wanna kidnap them ^-^ And when the father and son bowed together it was just so cute too.
I also think the Shiritori-part was too long and kinda boring altough I liked the word-play in itself (and how the Ayakashi disappeared). I was little disappointed that we didn’t get to see the old man (I like old people) but we got more of the foxes so that kinda cancelled the bad points ^-^
The birds’ wings weren’t as Clover-like as I hoped but at least they sounded like birds ^-^

After seeing the obaa-san from episode 4, I would like to see some old man as well O.o But it would be too confuse to show him, this way, they tied both stories perfectly.

It was also kinda disappointing that now that I’ve seen the Clover official musicvideo I was hoping the birds would sound like mechanic toys like in the video.
By the way, have you (or everyone else) noticed how much Fay resembles Clover’s Suu? I don’t mean the appearance but the past, powers, mentality and all that. And they both have this “Tsurete itte” (“Let me free” or something) song flowing around them.

Happy? Mmmm, nope, not at all. I’d be happier about Ohkawa directing a GORE-Y episode with deaths. I want to see someone dying, dammit. Like the monkey’s paw; now that’s one I want Ohkawa to touch. They’re bound to sugar-coat that one, and since it’s the one after the one Ohkawa directs it, some other idiot is going to be in charge of it and fuck it up. Apart from the skeleton arm, there’s nothing hardcore about the Hydrangea saga.
I’m not comfortable with a filler in which a man is a client. We’ve had no other men besides Watanuki inside the shop.
Are you sure #10 is 100 ghost stories? Lamplight sounds like a title more fitting the yokai parade thing with the mana tree.
Also, I wonder when is kudakitsune going to appear. Since the timeline is screwed up, it could be anytime soon. How different are the sagas going to be if kudakitsune is around? Or will it be neglected because that damn black thing Mokona is Teh Mascot?
But anyway, I actually liked episode 5 a lot. Who knew? Must be because the oden kitsune family slayed me :3 I’ve always liked those two, so filler to develop them is fine by me.

Unfortunately she’s not touching the Monkey’s Paw one, in fact she’s not scheduled for episodes 9 and 10 neither.

Michiko Yokote is doing it, he did episodes 1 and 4.
As for me, I’m particulary happy with Ohkawa taking this arc rather than a normal one (like the lying girl or the PC-holic one). I think there’s a big chara development in Watanuki. And I think it’s one of the few ones that is directly related to the plot, I mean, we never heard again of Yuuko’s clients, but the Warashis are very important to the plot (they even get splash pages xD).

I think it’s interesting ^^ Ohkawa said she has a bad tendency of only choosing women to fit the part of the “mistaken” one.

I don’t know about kudakitsune, but I don’t think they are gonna cut him, he’s important (even more than Mokona who means nothing but a comic relief).

XXXHolic eps 5 was so GREAT. I watched it almost 10 times whenever I miss.
One thing that I felt sad a little bit is they used the Fox Oden just a minor for Shiritori. I mean the Fox appeared first and was the cause to the end then Shiritori’s just the part of it. So they need to change the tittle. Since they mixed 2 arcs and chose Shiritori for the tittle, the Fox Oden isn’t main anymore. That’s not true because they will have to appear in Hyakkikyako, ne?
I’m still not used to see golden fox. Okay, now I know Holy fox is golden XD. I love both 2 foxes. The tiny fox is so cute when he’s blushing for shyness. Watching Watanuki and Yuuko eating Oden food made me hungrier even though I’ve already had my meal. I always watch it after meal but I still feel hungry WTH XDD
After Watanuki and Chibi Kitsune stared each other, Watanuki made a great perform when he caught the dishes. And I can’t stop smirking when he made the face “There’s another! The bigger one that talks!” XDDDDD
I’m so happy when the Ossan Kitsune (Bix Fox) explain the Haja Arrow. (they named Doumeki’s arrow is Haja Arrow)
I really like SFXs in this eps. PERFECT!! Really suitable and wierd XD!! In fact I truly felt scare a bit when SXF made a scene Watanuki on the street under the fullmoon. The pole’s shadows are really creepy. They startled me when they’re moving to him and suddenly turned in to ayakashi.
The way Mokona playing Shiritori was great. I mean “Ri” Watanuki A word starts with “Ri” and always “Ri” XDD Look like when I’m playing English word game, my friend only let me start with “E” and always “E” You’re doing this on purpose XDDDD I like the way Watanuki mumbled when he can’t find the word “Ri..Ri…Eto Ri..” XDDD His seiyuu was perfect.
The ending scene between Watanuki and the Fox Oden was so nice. I really want to see them play Shiritori together.
Although they cut the old man’s full with Fei Wang stuff (I want to hear he say you are famous in our world -__-), they made a great eps with Fox Oden. It’s all right!
XXXHolic eps 6 will be with Lawful Drug XDDD. My, my I’m dying for bliss.
I’ve read your Anime’s Preview for next eps and wonder where is Zashiki?? I mean how can they let Ame Warashi appear first?? Watanuki has to be received chocolate by Zashiki first. Then Ame Warashi can remind him the White Day. WTH they intent to do??? Agree they really need Ohkawa-sensei since they made a big gap and conflict. Seeing Ame’s red hair and Yuuko’s blue outfit made me feel weird. Why don’t they try to reverse? XDD
Does anybody realize they still do not let Yuuko meet Doumeki??? What’s wrong with them?

I think that was more appropriated for an episode title since there’s the whole concept adopted by the series that Shiritori is made to avoid evil spirits, like, it would be a bit weird the episode to be called “Oden Shop” XDDDDDD But I don’t think they gave more attention to one or another, to me they seemed like two halfs of the same coin ^^
The tiny fox is TEH cutest thing, I can’t wait to see him on the Hyakkikyako arc ^^

I’m afraid they’ll cut the whole Valentine’s thing because it’s out-of-season. We’re not in February so it would be weird to put that into the anime in the middle of May. But Zashiki Warashi is not THAT important here, they only make a commentary at the end that Watanuki is owing a payment for her.

I loved the foxes… One nice detail: according to this, in Shiritori, whenever a player says a word ending with “n”, he loses. So, little fox started already losing with “Oden” XDD

Well, you win again, the episode was awesome… But, I had to disagree with you in one thing (is this a trait of mine?), Shiritori was TEH funny scene!! I cracked all the windows of my house just for you to have an idea of how much I laughed. The fact that it was long didn´t make it boring or “sausage-filling” (hahaha that was on purpose, don´t worry) for a single moment.
Well, the little fox seiyuu only makes me think one thing: “I WANT IT FOR MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!” *HUGS AND SMASHES THE POOR FOX AGAINST THE CHEST* *releases it* *silence…* *Oh, it doesn´t move anymore… what happened? Move fox, move!* *WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH, mommyyyyy, the fox doesn´t move anymore!!!*
Well, the birds really reminded me of Clover and seeing shadows flying towards the moon made me really unhappy, too… Anyone (let´s use another of your expressions) with “two brain cells” knows that´s impossible, and even though xxxHolic shows supernatural stuff, that was not supernatural, it was simple and clear RUSH to finish the episode on time. Somebody had to review that… It looked VERY strange…
Well, overall, episode 5 was wonderful! I can barely wait for the computerholic woman arc (my second favorite, after the divination one). My favorite part is when Yuuko writes on the bat and cuts the computer into two. The whole philosophy behind it concerning the fact that things are what you think of them. Of course it was exaggerated but that´s what makes it funny!!!
Oh, by the way, talking about episode 4 (although it´s been some time) do you remember the scene when Watanuki folds the handkerchief for Yuuko? It was so simple for me that I didn´t notice, but I think it might be somehow interesting to say. I was watching the episode with my sister and, on that scene, she asked me “why did she ask him to fold it when she could fold it herself”? Well, as I told you, xxxHolic is full of references on magic. In a magical operation, the hands have different poles (like a battery, one positive, one negative) and if she put her other hand on it, she might have ruined the energetic circuit that she produced in order to have the desired result (again, it was exaggerated. I don´t think you can make handkerchiefs fly with that…).
We could also see that as another opportunity of Yuuko to teach Watanuki something new (altough she doesn´t explain how it works, she is showing it) like she always does. Every time she takes Watanuki for a trip, or every time he is on a “mission” or “work”, she teahces him something new.
I strongly believe that in the end, Yuuko is gonna die, or travel to another dimension (and start some new job) and pass the shop to Watanuki when he learns enough. Or he´ll probably be able to have his own shop or something. Yuulo is the catalyst of his life´s change, and I bet she´s training him for something. But those are only theories based on toughts…

And I also think that in the end Watanuki can replace Yuuko somehow. Maybe she wants to die as well as Clow (and split her soul in two for Maru and Moro who are soul-less?). It does look like she’s “training” him.

Chibi-Yuuto’s right! I watched eps 3 again. Because I still pissed when they messed up eps 3 with “Doukime has the power to keep evil away” with out-of-reason. Or because the scene when they were meeting together didn’t made a great expression to me. What’s wrong with them have to be followed our time? I mean you don’t need to wait until summer to watch the “100 Ghost Stories” or wait until Valentine to see Zashiki TT__TT

That’s how things go, unfortunately, in the anime indrustry. If it’s summer they have to put summer/beach episodes, the same with Christmas and other important holidays. Not every anime follows that timeline (Tsubasa for example) but some of then yes, mainly the ones that happens at Japan’s real-time.

Oh yesh! another review from Chibi Yuuto-sama! X3…No doubt you feel more pleased with XXXHolic, and maybe it’s because XXXHolic is surely doing so holy well.
I liked pretty much the new track on the Oden Shop, it gives a nice feeling which I really like it X3.
The fox! omg I did luv ’em! they were so perfect!!, you’re right! XD both seiyuus couldn’t have fited more to them! X3…XD oh the little one was too cute -luvs-
The scene at yuuko’s shop was pretty cool XD it was very funny and well, for what I’ve read you don’t like that much Mika’s voice XD haha lol…but I think she is doing better now, I totally did luv when she said “Ato sake!” it sounded really more like this Mokona may should sound, and it made me laugh XD.
The Shiritori was fine, yeah it got a bit longer than it should, but we know it was for the “not much material to work with”.
Lol I didn’t notice the mistake of the birds XDDDDDDDD lol, but yeah you are right lol XD oh but those are little mistakes, the animators have done really great work X3 I think we can really forgive ’em.
And so, XD I share your liking for this episode because it was really great X3.

And I think it’s great that Ohkawa-sensei chose that episode, since for me it’s really one of THE key episodes, at least for me it was the one that showed me how deeply Doumeki could care

“Esta Sakura”?…te refieres a tsubasa?, si eres de Mexico, o america del sur, Tsubasa no esta siendo pasada en ninguno de los paises de habla hispana, ya fue doblado al ingles y la pasan por Animax en Estados Unidos. Tsubasa solo es transmitida en japones por NHK, si quieres bajar los episodios, busca en bittorrent o.o
