This is the first time Doumeki appears in a title page since the return of XXXHOLiC Rei.

Not Watanuki being stood out by Haruka! xD At least, this time Watanuki knows it’s because he needs to figure things out by himself (how very character growth of him). I like how Watanuki feels confident about this. The old Watanuki would be pissed out and cry about it.

I still wanna know why Haruka is the ‘only’ (as far as we know) dead person Watanuki can talk to in his dreams…

The sailor uniforms Maru and Moro are wearing remind me of the Outo Gakuen uniform (from ‘Suki. Dakara Suki’), except this one seems to have a star on it, instead of a sakura flower. Again possibly two clothes that we might never see again.

Seoritsu-hime sure is a long-ass name, calling her “Seo-tan” sure helps. Much appreciated, Maru and Moro (will that name stick, though?)

I wonder if it will ever come a point in XXXHOLiC when Watanuki will start calling himself as the shop’s owner, or if it’s something that he as a character will never see himself as such…

Oh, it’s the Kitsune from the Kitsune Oden! He looks so grown up! I wonder if perhaps we could use this to help locate ourselves exactly where we are in the timeline between XXXHOLiC and Clear Card but it doesn’t help much. Last time we saw him it was many volumes ago so it only makes sense that he would look older. If this is all set after Clear Card, would he look this older or more? It doesn’t help much but for what is worth, I still believe this is set after Clear Card, even though there is no solid evidence to confirm or deny this.

He still looks utterly cute being all formal doing grown up ceremonial things. They are also using extremely formal Japanese to address to each other and that’s so cute to me!

Kitsune-kun brought with him a letter written by his father telling Watanuki that the Kitsune clan will not go after the Shuuka. So this means Watanuki talked to Papa Kitsune “off camera”. Who knows who else Watanuki might have talked to? Indeed many chapters ago we learned that a Shuka is something desired by many (including the “Witch of Dimensions”), so it seems that Watanuki is using his connections and doing the best he can to make sure there will be less beings interested in it (the Shuka). However, Kitsune-kun adverted that it only applies to fox spirits (kitsune) and that a spirit that may think they don’t fall into that category will not abide to it.

Do we know any other spirit/yokai that looks like a fox and might not be a kitsune?

Hmmmm that reminds me… whatever happened to Kuda Kitsune?

We know Yuuko was very well-connected, but I don’t think Watanuki is as well-connected as she at this point of the story. So I wonder how many more clans/yokai classes he is able to bring to his “side”. It almost feels like a war is about to wage…

We still don’t know what Watanuki asked Doumeki to fetch from his warehouse and we still don’t know what happened to the creepy client (among so many things, of course…)

Once again our typical-by-now set of 14 pages for this chapter. 160 pages so far for volume 5. The next chapter will be the last one of volume 5! Maybe it will end with a big cliffhanger…

XXXHOLiC Rei is a biweekly serialization, but this chapter was published on a double issue, therefore the next chapter will be released on August 28th.
