We have Akiho and Kaito for the color page in one of their travels prior to coming to Japan. I believe this is their first “solo” color page together? I can remember another one but Sakura and Syaoran were in it too. Given that next chapter will be the last one, maybe we will get a Sakura/Syaoran color spread next time? Or maybe a solo Sakura one.

It’s nice to see Sakura’s supportive net being well, supportive. I am talking about Touya, Ruby Moon and Spinel, and the others, of course.

I think it was a very clever move for Sakura to consciously realize that she can create new cards to fix this whole “mess”. Even Kaito was very surprised. I mean, maybe at this point Sakura alone cannot defeat the Magic Association. Maybe it would be a stretch for her to kick all their asses at the age she’s at. But to make them forget about Kaito and Akiho? That’s a very clever and “peaceful” solution.

I had a suspicion that we would not see much of the Magic Association in Clear Card. Indeed, the more the story advanced and the less we saw of them, more and more it felt to me that was not going to be enough time for it. Here we are, one chapter away and we haven’t seen much of them, and we won’t, because Sakura made them forget about Kaito and Akiho. So they are no longer a problem… for now.

But the Magic Association is already a part of Card Captor Sakura universe and the whole CLAMP universe as a matter of fact. They are here to stay. I don’t think this is the last we have seen of it and that they will appear again whether it being in another future Card Captor Sakura arc or some other CLAMP work. Even though we had 16 volumes, which would be more than enough to explore the Magic Association if CLAMP wanted to, but they didn’t want to. Ohkawa-sensei knew that in the end Sakura would make them forget about Kaito and Akiho so there was no need to further develop the Magic Association at least at this point.

I knew it that Akiho would be in a card, she was the only one still missing! My interpretation is that Sakura removed all the magic spells from the book and put them inside the BLANK card. I can’t not mention the fact that Fye’s tattoo was spotted in the pages of the book — so much for the “D” connection that he and Kaito shares. And Fye’s tattoo also worked as a seal on him.

Another smart move was merging two cards together: TIME and REWIND (the M switching up with the W, LOL), creating the REMIND card with a current-age Syaoran (which makes more sense).

Honorable mention to Yelan for landing her powers all the way from Hong Kong to help Sakura creating the BLANK card. Even she laid a hand, so that was nice. She also draws her powers from the Moon, which was enhanced due all the work that Yukito and Nakuru did.

Sakura wants to fix the “huge mess” that is this reality but she only has two cards: TIME and REWIND. I am not sure if those are the only cards left or if she plans to do something using these two cards (combining them?). It’s not clear to me.

All and all, I like how Sakura managed to solve all of this. It was a very “Sakura” way of sorting things out so for that I was happy about!

So it really does seem that Sakura managed to fix the “huge mess” and they are back to the “original world” (to be confirmed next chapter but I think so). She still has the Dream Wand, but we are not sure yet if she kept any of the new cards.

“To live on into the future” and not wanting to “relive the past” is a very nice message to give. Sometimes we want things to be how they used to be, but that’s never possible. What happened in the past stays in the past. The future is where the past took us and the only way possible is forward. I think it’s an important message that will be more explored in the final chapter. It can’t be as simple as “and things went back to how they were” because that would be very disappointing. This is CLAMP telling us that there were consequences from all the actions that were taken in the past, but the only way possible is forward.

This chapter was very beautifully drawn, at least most of it. There were a few panels that looked a little off to me and maybe they will adjust in the final published volume but the art is peaking here.

Next chapter is the final one and we should be seeing the aftermath and how/if things have impacted everyone’s lives. I am particularly curious to know what happened to Kaito and if he will be able to take on a normal life after all the things he sacrificed. Also curious to know about Sakura Cards and the Star Wand!

36 pages again for this chapter. 134 pages for volume 16 so far!

Chapter 80 will come out on November 29th and it’s going to be the LAST CHAPTER!!! Round number, of course =) Hopefully we are getting 40-something pages just end things in the most appropriate way possible!

  1. Yeahh it was cool and epic, and I loved the art and the way Sakura solved everything… But this seems too rushed for me. It may be because I was expecting to learn more about the Society, since as you say, they had the time to develop and present it to us, expanding the highly unexplored lore of CCS (which was one of the things a lot of us wanted to see in this Clear Card arc). Also… It would have been great to have them being more present because for a really long time, CCS was a story that… Never had a real villain. We had enemies, but they were all the time allies (Cards, Eriol, etc…) and we never had the chance to see the group fighting against a great true evil. To me, this is a missed oportunity. The society was wasted here. Well, I’d really hope we get new CCS arcs from now on in where we can see them a little bit grown up and being albe to fight big interesting baddies based on their experience and better grasp on their powers, and also that CLAMP can really expand the lore about magic, clans, etc.

  2. Clamp released a new version of this chapter on youtube yesterday, not quite sure but I think they added pages at the end of sakura being woken up in bed by kero congratulating her on making the new cards.
