The eighth volume of Card Captor Sakura ~Clear Card arc~ debuted at the 5th position in Oricon’s weekly ranking, with an estimate of 74,329 copies sold in its first week of sales. This is the second lowest first week sales for a Clear Card volume, only behind volume 2.
These numbers are for the regular edition, only. Numbers for the special edition (Drama CD part 2) are unknown as it did not appear on the ranking.
Let’s keep in mind that the special edition sales might have affected these numbers and, more importantly, volume 8 was up for pre-order several months prior to its release date so it is likely that the orders for the special edition were spread across the many weeks before the release date. That is, of course, just a personal guess.
It is worth mentioning that Oricon only takes into account a certain number of shops and only sales from the week which they are covering alone, not taking account pre-orders. These numbers are only an estimate and it’s possible that the real figures are higher than these.

It’s still early to know. Let’s wait and see how it will perform on next week’s ranking. Hopefully this is not the last we’ve seen of volume 8.
so sad the sales keep dropping like that. The anime didn’t give any boost, I’m scared they won’t do the 2nd season 😦

Thank you for posting this!
As usual, hard to know what the real numbers are… still, it’s a certainty they are way higher that this: so many people preordered it online since it was made available late August 2019, this is 7 months worth of preorders not accounted for @_@ The Special Edition was sold out on Amazon the couple of days before the release date, and it wasn’t restocked to this day, that says a lot ^^;
That, and I’m not sure just how badly the whole situation we are living in affected sales, Japan was definitely not as affected as other countries early March, but many people worldwide are putting aside their hobbies and are only limiting themselves to necessary purchases, as to be expected…

And… is there any chances that the fact the chapters are now post for free online could affect these numbers? …
Like, “we can read it online now, why bother?” or at least “I’m not in a hurry to buy it right on the way it comes out, it can wait till later”…
I hope not 😦
I do not believe them putting CCS online was meant to affect their sales ;_;

That said, the chapters online these past few months are pretty much almost all from volume 9, and this is volume 8 haha ^^;

I don’t think that’s the case. I would say it’s definitely the pre-orders for the special edition and these sale numbers are only from those people who bought it for that release week specifically, which are great numbers still. They must not be fans who preorder them in advance. They must be average readers.

Sales are only counted when the volume is released and all pre-order numbers of special edition are counted for the first week, just like the normal editon which was up for pre-order at the same period. They are not spread for 7 months. Sadly the sales are clrearly on a downward trend looking at the graph. The corona pandemic might affect the sales of manga in general though.

Are you positive of that? Would you mind linking me to where I can learn more about how Oricon makes their rankings?

It’s just how all charts work in general. Sales of books, manga, cds, blurays are only counted when they are released. And they are always up for pre-oreder months before release date, both normal ver and special ver.

I misunderstood you first comment. I thought you were saying that pre-sales did count.
Yes, I agree that it makes more sense that only the sales of that week are counted.

My Anime News source (sorry for Thai language : http://iamzeonblog.blogspot.com/2020/04/30-5-2020.html )
who always posts update for sale rankings show 2 titles of CCS
One is normal edition and two is specialedition following this :
05. *,*74,329 Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card Vol.8 (VBK)Vol.8
46. *,*18,849 Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card Vol.8 Special Edition with Drama CD
(And they get news from Oricon, so i’m quite sure for the news)
So i think the total number is ~ 93,178 copies but actually, the number is decreasing for sure *-*

Ah! So they must have access to the subscribers area. I think there is a restricted area that gives access to the top 50. The free area only shows the top 30.
Thank you! I will update that on my graphic =)
