The newly drawn illustration that is going to be used for the cover of the upcoming Card Captor Sakura 20th Anniversary Artbook has been revealed.

In addition, more details about the artbook were announced: the artbook will come in a sparking clear case — which could explain the price — and include a 70 x 100 cm poster with the chronology of Card Captor Sakura.

The artbook will be released on March 24.

This isn’t really the art I was expecting for the cover (I liked more the one for vol. 9 Nakayoshi 60th Anniversary limited edition), but it’s still a great art nonetheless, of course.

Also, in case you missed, this month’s issue of Nakayoshi is announcing that CLAMP will be drawing a new Card Captor Sakura story in 2016, and according to Comic Natalie, it’s going to be a one-shot and not a full series. Details regarding storyline and publishing date are yet to be announced.

Stay tuned for more info as they come!

  1. So in the end, it’s a oneshot. I will have to purchase the magazine, this definitely won’t be published outside of Japan ^^; I hope we will get color artworks! Not just in the chapter, but the cover of the magazine too!
The only other possibility I see, would be for the oneshot to be included in a hopefully future artbook including the latest illustrations this time ^_^

Well, I am personally disappointed, as I told you in a previous post, I was at least hoping for one volume? Natalie might still be wrong though? So I0m still crossing my fingers for a little bit more time 🙂

After this, I suppose there won’t be anymore mixed feelings from the fandom: I don’t want it to be linked to TRC! Or yes, I want it to linked to TRC! No! Sacrilege! I don’t want a CCS manga at all: the ending was perfect as is! Where is X? Where is Gate 7? Where is D&D? Clamp will definitely put a new CCS on hiatus, it’s inevitable, it’s fate! Why not make something new and yet again use their old characters!? etc.. (=_=) (=_=)
They are all big fans of CCS, but I think they were thinking way too much into this: I gave up on overthinking since the TRC days in which I spent literally years burning my brain cells on the plot. On my side, I am simply enjoying the news of new chapters of a great manga series being released ❤

      That’s what I think too.

I don’t know *how* they get their inside info but they are always right…

I’m not going to be so cruel and say that I am happy it’s a one-shot. I have my concerns about creating additional material when there isn’t anymore (I’m afraid of spoiling the great manga that CCS was). A one-shot feels about right, sort of like finding out what happened to these characters later on… revisiting this universe for the sake of its 20th Anniversary. Hopefully it’s going to be more than just 12 pages.

      • Indeed, I’ve yet to see an info from Natalie being wrong ^^;

I suppose the sells of this first artbook might decide whether it’s commercially worth it to release a 2d one? Or are CLAMP famous enough to “ask” for their new artworks of CCS to be published? (I think Ohkawa said she would talk about it with Kodansha?). Well, I’m really not too sure how they really decide these things in the end, but chances are money is a big part of it!

Ouch! Let’s hope indeed that the 12 pages curse of xxxholic (and I feel like D&D also had super short chapters?) is not going to befall us again! XD
I don’t know what a oneshot could be about, but well, there are actually not infinite choices: epilogue or random adventure in the middle of the original series time line.

And last but not least, if I’m not mistaken: HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHIBIYUUTO!! ❤ I hope you will enjoy your day and have fun! 🙂

I think both. CLAMP has a certain influence, and the one-shot news is booming in social networks. The one-shot will impulse the artbook sales so if we join CLAMP’s influence + sales, there’s a high chance we’ll see another artbook in the future.

I hope the storyline will focus around Sakura giving up her wand because she is so power she no longer needs it. Hopefully we’ll see her interacting with Yuuko when she was still alive, too.

And yes, you are so not mistaken, today IS my birthday xD Thank you so so much! You always wish me a happy birthday, every single year! You’re the sweetest =)

  2. Thanks for all these infos regarding CCS! =)

Isn’t it weird that I can’t find any preorder on CD Japan for the new artbook (march 23 is in three weeks)?
