CLAMP’s weekly radio show on KBS Kyoto radio station launched today in Japan.
I was able to capture the audio, you can download today’s episode below:
CLAMPの京都上ル下ル #1 – 2015/10/01 (right click -> save target as).
On this episode, they talked about CLAMP a group (main activities, current works, early days), moving to Kyoto, CLAMP IN WONDERLAND (they played Anata Dake no Wonderland at the end).
As usual, if anyone would like to share their thoughts about what they talked about, specially the part about moving to Kyoto, that would be highly appreciated, even a brief summary would help!
The show will be available as podcast download later today. We will be able to tell if there are any differences between my recording and the official podcast. If there aren’t any differences, I will no longer record these weekly. If there are any substantial differences (I don’t believe so), then I will keep recording.
Make sure to check out the show’s hotsite that was launched earlier this week.
It’s really nice to listen to the ladies! I’m so glad I’ll be able to hear them every week now =)
Update: The podcast version is up. It has essentially the same contents except for the song “Anata Dake no Wonderland” that has been cut — probably because they don’t have the rights to distribute the song on the internet. Therefore, there is no need for me to record these on a weekly basis given that the podcast is pretty much the same thing. That being said, I will still post and comment about each episode weekly.
Thank you very much ! ! !

Here’s my summary. Please if somebody notices something wrong please point it out for me! Thak you!
– At the open talk they commented that it was a while since they have done a Radio show (specially without alcohol), besides the small Twitcasts. They also commented that before leaving to the studio Ohkawa and Satsuki were thinking in bring a bottle of champagne and begin the open talk with the sound of opening the bottle. Mokona said that is better to bring some nice sake.
– They also talked about changing the tradittional greetting of “otsukaresama desu” (something close like a “God work today!”) to “ware ware no han’i ni!” wich you can translate to “welcome to our sphere!”, and want people to start using this one because it makes the atmosphere run high (makes people more cheerful)
– Today they have no alcohol so they’re going to try their best but in the next episodes they will possibly bring some alcohol into the studio.
– Okhawa mentioned that Satsuki enters to a “mute mode” when doing radio shows and joked about it.
– After the opening talk they talked of who they are and what they’re doing and that they are often called a “creative group” and they feel doesn’t fit well to them so their asked to their listeners to propouse some other ways to be called.
– They mention their ongoing works naming just TWC (as a “sequel” of the Tsubasa series) and Holic (that they said it’s supoused to be weekly but they release just one chapter per month -and everyone laughed).
– They mention and taled about Seiden RG Veda on Wing as the debut work.
– It seems the studio is very big (and it feels kinda of strange), so they are thinking that since it is possible to make some lives performances in-situ, to have somebody to play the piano in there, and Statsuki commented that they can call voice actpors since recently there’s a lot of vopice actors that can sing and play the piano as well.
– They talked about their bithplaces and that they have lived in Tokyo a little bit more than 22 years.
– They say people often ask them why they have returned to Kyoto, and they mentioned Gate 7 -as a paused series for Shueisha-, that takes place in Kyoto (Near the surroundings of the Tenmangu temple) so they used to travel a lot to there to investigate, so with all the travelling in the shinkansen and the fatigue caused by it Also mentioned a lot of people recommended them nice places to visit in Kyoto, and a when friend scriptwritter invited them to taste Mattcha (powedered green tea) they thought it was time to return.
– They found a nice neighborhood, and when to see some places to live (they mention it was snowing, and was very cold and the real tate agency didn’t have slippers so since they were feeling the cold floor they didn’t walk, more than they give small jumps to move inside there) and Satsuki was the first to find a good place and decide. They talked within theirselves and, since there’s also the fact that they are at the age of start taking care of their families, they decided to go back to Kyoto.
– The last one to move was Ohkawa beacuse of some remaining job, and the first one to move was Nekoi (summer of 2012).
– They were surprised by the quantity of circullar bulletings, and the quantity of sports events (field days)
– Ohkawa mentioned that feels extrange to be surrounded by mountains (since she is from Osaka city where they dont have so much mountains), and Nekoi mentioned that they can find where is the north, south, etc just by seeing the mountains.
– They mentioned Kyoto can get very-very cold, altough the mornings feel nice.
– They also mentioned that the bus routes are different so at first they were not able yet to calculate how much is going to take them to get to a plce, so they often arrived late to appointments.
– Ohkawa asked to each one their favorite places of Kyoto, and Mokona answered that she used to skip university and take another bus and go to fool arround Sanjuusangen (famous massif ruins) and take notes, etc. Okhawa joked screaming “Go to school! Go to school!”
– Mokona also commented she really loved the Buddha statues, and that is one thing they can recomend to do in Kyoto.
– They mention that on the first investigation trip for Gate 7 they went into a shrine and look at the wishes written by people and found some creepy ones like poeple asking for their sons to broke up with their girlfriends or missfortune for their bosses. Seems some shrines are open even at night, they said that those people were really serious about those wishes to go at night and writte that sort of things.
– Nekoi she used to go to downtown, but she doesn’t go that much now since apparently a shop called “Hans” (“Hands” maybe?) opened a branch in her neighborhood (Ohkawa said that there wasnt branches of this shop/store at Tokyo) and Nekoi continued saying since last year she started to go out and do rounds in temples and visit writting (stationary) materials stores as well. They mentioned the had a lot of paper stores in Tokyo.
– Satsuki says she goes out to a lot of Yakiniku houses since its simple and you can go just by yourself (without needing company like on a restaurant) so Ohkawa asked her if she really does go out alone to those places and Statsuki answered that she really doesn’t go alone that much (which implied she is more likely to go out with company). Mokona said that sometimes my happen, but inmediatly Ohkawa said that you can take Kogane out in those circumstances.
– She talked that Yakiniku is really yummy wherever they go.
– Mokona said she goes to Arashiyama (a famous district on the western outskirts of Kyoto, nationally designated historic place). At the same time Ohkawa mentions that Mokona has been collecting all her life goshinchou (御朱印帳, this are papers you receive when you visit a temple or shrine, with something written on it, and sealed, recently these are very beautifull papers I recommend you to ggole images of these) and in Arashiyama there’s a shrine called Okami shrine (Hair shrine) that since that shrine closes early she had to hurry up to buy it but also discovered some really cute omamoris (japanese charms) to pass examns.
– Ohkawa mentioned that nobody really recommended a place in Kyoto to visit besides Satsuki’s Yakiniku stores comment, so they are going to do their homework for the next show.
– Before play the anata dake no wonderland song they talked about Ohkawa those days and how it was presented touring arround Japan doping events, and sometimes they returned to Tokyo after the events, like when they had the event in Nagoya, to continue working. The video was made to present the characters and CLAMP’s work universe, and Ohkawa wrotte the lyrics thinking on this.
– After the song they joked that people that used to listen to their previous radio show will be more satisfyied with this one, and that this first episode was pretty serious if you compare it.
– They asked to the listeners to write them asking about Kyoto, or their works, or to request songs if they like. The e-mail is clamp@kbs.kyoto and fax is “kyoto75431-2300” and the postal number to send postcards is “602-8588”.
– At the end the voice over mentions the “Shigatsu Tsuitachi Corporation” as sponsor of the show.
That’s all, I apologize for my english but please bear with it.
My comments:
1) Please call Maaya Sakamoto and make her sing live XDDDDD
2) Please someone writte them and ask about X and Gate 7!!!!!!
3) It was very funny to hear (and it will be funnier if they bring alcohol in like they said) but I don’t know if this kind of show will be funny for non-clamfans I mean general public to hear

Like I told you, this is so much more than I expected from you, this is so detailed, thank you very much for your hard work!
– Okhawa mentioned that Satsuki enters to a “mute mode” when doing radio shows and joked about it.
LOL I noticed how Satsuki is really shy when doing anything public. I guess she must be really talkative under normal conditions.
– After the opening talk they talked of who they are and what they’re doing and that they are often called a “creative group” and they feel doesn’t fit well to them so their asked to their listeners to propouse some other ways to be called.
I think that’s very humble of them but I do see them as a “creative group” since they do a lot more than just draw manga.
– They mention their ongoing works naming just TWC (as a “sequel” of the Tsubasa series) and Holic (that they said it’s supoused to be weekly but they release just one chapter per month -and everyone laughed).
I noticed the XXXHOLiC pun xD So it is intentionally monthly…
– It seems the studio is very big (and it feels kinda of strange), so they are thinking that since it is possible to make some lives performances in-situ, to have somebody to play the piano in there, and Statsuki commented that they can call voice actpors since recently there’s a lot of vopice actors that can sing and play the piano as well.
They are so gonna do that.
– They say people often ask them why they have returned to Kyoto, and they mentioned Gate 7 -as a paused series for Shueisha
Did they really said GATE 7 was paused?
– They mention that on the first investigation trip for Gate 7 they went into a shrine and look at the wishes written by people and found some creepy ones like poeple asking for their sons to broke up with their girlfriends or missfortune for their bosses. Seems some shrines are open even at night, they said that those people were really serious about those wishes to go at night and writte that sort of things.
And that probably inspired the first case we saw in GATE 7 =)
– Satsuki says she goes out to a lot of Yakiniku houses since its simple and you can go just by yourself (without needing company like on a restaurant) so Ohkawa asked her if she really does go out alone to those places and Statsuki answered that she really doesn’t go alone that much (which implied she is more likely to go out with company). Mokona said that sometimes my happen, but inmediatly Ohkawa said that you can take Kogane out in those circumstances.
Kogane? The cat? But she’s dead =/
They are really pretty indeed! I can see how Mokona is attracted to them =)
– After the song they joked that people that used to listen to their previous radio show will be more satisfyied with this one, and that this first episode was pretty serious if you compare it.
HELL YES! I already liked this one way better than the one they used to have in CLAMP-PLA.NET. This one is shorter but it’s a lot more “condensed” and they talk more about themselves and their works. The other one was just about food and silly things… well, let’s see if it was just the first episode, maybe the next ones will be silly too specially since they’ll be drunk haha
– At the end the voice over mentions the “Shigatsu Tsuitachi Corporation” as sponsor of the show.
I noticed that too 😉
2) Please someone writte them and ask about X and Gate 7!!!!!!
YES! I already did so myself xD But I can only write very poorly in Japanese. You should also do it!!
3) It was very funny to hear (and it will be funnier if they bring alcohol in like they said) but I don’t know if this kind of show will be funny for non-clamfans I mean general public to hear
Well it’s only 30 minutes, it’s not like it’s a lot of space. And maybe this publicity will bring more attention to their works.

>>”Did they really said GATE 7 was paused?”
They did, they said 連載休止, it can be translated as paused or “on a brake”
>>Kogane? The cat? But she’s dead =/
Re-checked this up and it is indeed a mistake, they say “Kohane” (actually they say Kohane-chan), not “Kogane”. Sorry about that, the “cahn” confused me and I thought they were talking of one of their pets. In the other side does “Kohane-chan” sounds familiar to you? It’s arround 20:05 of your file.

Well, to be honest, I don’t think -even if they receive a hundreds of e-mails asking about X- that they are going to refer to the subject. They haven’t done it in all this years, they are not going to do it in such an open media. Also the show is thought to be a cheerful show, a series paused for years doesn’t exactly fits in like a happy subject to talk about (even when mentioning G7 being paused Ohkawa accelerated her talking rythm ha ha). There has to be some not-clear-enough-to-open-to-public circumstances for them to be avoiding to deliver a clear answer about this. They may not be in a good time to continue such a difficult work as X, you said it yourself they’re just playing safe with an easy-to-draw-series like TWC so… They are not definetly going to resume it in the near future at least. Therefore there is not much of a reason to aboard this subject at the present.

Oh god it makes it even more revolting when they admit it so shamelessly xD

Hummm I hear “Kohai-chan”? Kohane is a character from XXXHOLiC. She is a character…? So Mokona couldn’t go with her…? XD Well, Kohai-chan doesn’t ring me any bells either…..
Regarding X…. I know, I highly doubt they will address it on this radio show. But still, I just want them to see that we still care about it.

iT IS KOHAI INDEED! Kohai as in 後輩(こうはい) (junior, junior mangakas I would say)
So this give us an idea of their social life I think. Of course no japanese woman will ask or talk about co-workers lovelife in open media, but at least we know who hangs out with wich kind of people. I’m sure Ohkawa has friends like from the top management of related companies or such ahahah
I wonder about Nekoi’s though, ’cause she doesn’t really sound like an extrovert people or the go-outside-for-fun kind of people.
Mokona friends must be all art-related, or Japan-traditional-stuff related for sure xD

Junior mangakas? I see! Interesting…
Not sure about Nekoi, she seems to be the “clown” of the group. Always making jokes around… she is shy in front of the cameras but she’s really humourous — she’s the one that does the chibi short comics and most of CLAMP’s mascots after all =)
