CLAMP Internet Radio #44

Guest: Ryuukishi07 (XXXHOLiC Drama CD co-writer)

– Nekoi is absent at the beginning of the show (again?). They said she’s busy working.

– Ryuukishi07 has such a cool voice! XD He sounds so young, well he’s 34, so he is young. He has such a gasped, fainted laughter though! xD I’m sure he can be quite scary if he wants to, he’s the creator of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni after all.

– Nekoi joins in XD Everyone greets her, “Otsukaresama!”

– For music, he likes movie soundtracks? Action movies specially. He mentions Independence Day.

– Lots of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni talk (which I couldn’t understand a thing XD).

– Talk about the XXXHOLiC Drama CD. I’m reaaaally not entirely sure about this, but I think Ohkawa explains how the idea to write a Drama CD with Ryuukishi07 came to happen (it was in CLAMP’s studio when they invited him to have dinner? Not sure AT ALL! xD).

– One of the e-mails that was sent by the listeners asked him the meaning of the “07” in his pen name. Turns out that CLAMP, too, were curious about it xD Quoting Wikipedia:

His pen name originated from Reina of Final Fantasy V β€” “07” in Japanese can be pronounced as “reinana”, and “Ryukishi” means “dragon knight”, referring to Reina’s wyvern.

Honestly, CLAMP, just read Wikipedia xD

– When he finishes explaining the origin of his pen name, Ohkawa mentions something about Mokona dropping “Apapa” from her name. clstmk-san, you think you can translate this one for me? ^^”

– Near the final 5 minutes I’m quite sure I heard Ohkawa joking about something with X and RG Veda… something about killing characters, hummm.

I really liked this episode. I never thought Ryuukishi07 would be a guest in this show, I wish they would bring more “staffers” (like anime directors and producers, editors etc) and less seiyuus.

        • Okay… xD There are a lot of things but about nicknames, he said that… I think it was when he was a doujinshi artist and it was his first Comic Market, they called him at night before the market and asked him what his nickname was and he had no idea he was supposed to have one and since he was a big fan of FF at the time, he just picked that 07 and that’s how it was decided. “Alright, good night” (sore de yoroshiku, oyasumi) said the guy who was asking him or something like that. πŸ˜€ And he says that since the name was decided he thought that he shouldn’t change it anymore. Which amused CLAMP a lot. I think Ookawa addresses Mokona like “Mokona, former Apapa” or something.

The second email asks about how he decides the names of his characters and they talk about if the names have a meaning or not and he says that some of them do and some of them don’t, that’s how I got it at least…

I didn’t understand how they decided to do the Drama CD together but they talked a lot about how it was difficult to get the characters voice right when you try to write other people’s characters. I think he said he got Watanuki totally wrong at first and he apologizes about it a lot.

They talk about anime and voice actors too and he says that at first he didn’t have an idea about what kind of voices they should have (I think) but he was happy with the choices (I think he made them with… was it the producer or the director or… *should listen to it again*) and now he hears the voice actors voices in his head when he writes the character’s lines. πŸ˜€

          They were all really surprised to find out that Yuuko’s seiyuu also plays Rika’s mother in Higurashi’s anime… “what a coincidence!” they say, making me want to quote Yuuko. xD;

He said he likes war games even though he wouldn’t want to go to war really. And he likes the sort of action games and “easy”(?) kind of games that you can just play for a while and then stop or something like that. He also says that he used to like difficult and complex movies but nowadays he prefers easy and simple movies. He mentioned Independence Day, yeah and some other that I missed. Yeah… I think he said he likes movie soundracks. And he said he’s not good at cooking and he’s lazy at cleaning up before he absolutely has to. And I think he lived with his parents for a long time (his little brother moved out before him).

I did’t get what they said about X… But yeah, there was something about characters that die… πŸ˜€

In the end I think they talk about how scary Higurashi is. πŸ˜€ And Ookawa is all “I like it I want to see it” and the others are like “Kowaaiiii DX”

Also I think in the end Ookawa(?) says “remember that you shouldn’t change a name once you’ve decided on it!”

          So. πŸ˜€ That’s pretty much everything I got… I hope I didn’t get anything wrong.

Hahaha cool! Didn’t know he was a doujinshi artist, but thinking better, I did hear him saying “doujinshi”.
