For Brazilians: JBC’s version of Tsubasa to become monthly

I rarely post anything about the things that happen in Brazil that are related to CLAMP, simply because they rarely happen, unfortunately, I should say xD But today I heard this very exciting news from my friend Freakazoid-san, something I was expecting and hoping for quite some time (actually ever since JBC announced that they would be publishing Tsubasa).

Rumor has it that the Brazilian version of Tsubasa, since April/06 being published bimonthly, is about to become monthly, starting on the upcoming edition #11, which will hit newstands on December 12th.

Although this news is still under the “rumors” category, it’s pretty much confirmed since, according to Freakazoid-san, users of orkut have been getting e-mail replies from JBC stating the change on the manga’s periodicity.

A formal announcement by JBC is expected to be made on the release date.

XXXHOLiC’s periodicity remains the same, bimonthly, which is appropriate in order to have the links between the the two mangas working properly.

Also, prepare your wallets because according to the cover, the price for one edition has increased from R$ 5.90 to R$ 6.90. Ough. For half a tankoubon and no color pages, yes, I think it’s expensive.

The new price applies for XXXHOLiC as well.

I’ve been following the Brazilian versions of Tsubasa and XXXHOLiC since they started to be published here, and I have to say, JBC is doing a really incredible translation job, specially with XXXHOLiC, which is grammatically harder to understand.

The fun of reading Tsubasa in portuguese shall be bigger and the waiting for the next edition shall be smaller ^^

Good news! I agree with your last phrase! =P
I was so waiting for that.
I only hate the high price! But I’ll pay anyway! =P

Very good news indeed, and it’s exactly what I have suggested them in that e-mail I sent them xD I don’t think I was the only one, but it’s one of the few times my customer’s complains have been heard xD

Much better than the French release as they publish Tsubasa and holic alternatively. We are further in the story with Holic than Tsubasa is …

    • Tsubasa and xxxHOLiC were being published this way. We reached Outo koku in xxxHOLiC when Koriyo koku was starting in Tsubasa.

Currently, we are in volume 5 for xxxHOLiC and volume 5 for Tsubasa in Tankohon format. (They split one Tankohon in two, making the total of volumes be [Tsubasa Total of Volumes x 2]. D:)

    • Like Syaoran said below, it used to be like that too in here. Both TRC and xxxholic are in the japanese volume 6 in here, and we KNOW the crossovers don’t happen 1 on 1 (rather 2 on 1).

      >We are further in the story with Holic than Tsubasa is …

I can imagine! Which volume are you at?

      • Tsubasa 15
        xxxHolic 10

Not as bad as it use to be, but they have to stay one tankoubon behind the Japanese latest release, so xxxHolic is on hold and Tsubasa is catching up.

The worst moment was when both series were at #5, but xxxHolic’s head start lasted until these books.

For no enhancements at all? Hello, JBC, this is the 80’s, we want our inflation back, thank-you-and-have-a-good-day!

I lost my faith in the second issue. それを知るものの前には == antes de ser conhecido? URK. Was the translator on crack, or was the change deliberate because the translation/localization people don’t know shit about philosophy?

      • I like it ^^”””””” (not that particular change, the translation as a whole).
Where exactly is that part from?

I think I have managed to understand a lot more things and minor notes than reading it in english. It helps me to digest the story better.

        • It’s in the first chapter of the second issue, right after Watanuki arrives at the shop after seeing the lying woman get killed. Somehow the conversation turns to the nature of the world, and Yuuko says that the world may look big, but to those who know it (the world), it’s actually small, and to those who know -that- (as in, that the world is actually small), the world isn’t just one. It makes perfect sense that way, much more than JBC’s translation.

Sigh… One day when I have the time and the 1337 k4nji skillz, I’ll read the Holic raws from tankoubon 1.

    • No enhancements (I love that word xD) at all! Not as far as I know, anyway. They never change the specifications. Once B&W pages, always B&W pages. Once half-tankoubon, always half-tankoubon.

I shall buy them anyway but grrrrrr

The moment Watanuki sang “Era uma casa, muito engraçada…” The Brazilian Edition died for me… I only buy it with big descounts after some time, during AnimeCon or something….

I understand that translations are a dificult to do, but include a Brazilian song in a Japanese story is totaly over the edge.

It’s localization. Yeah, the story is in japanese, but for the people who don’t have time/care enough to study every little detail of japanese culture, having an equivalent joke/pun be used in place of the original one can go a long way.

It can make a little bit of dis-characterization, though xD We’re used with one kind of Watanuki and suddenly he knows the lyrics of “Era uma casa muito engraçada…” xD It makes you halt at first XD

But that certainly was not something that prevented me from buying the other editions. I like their footnotes =)

LOL! I have to confess and agree with you that that particular adaptation was lame xD I remember when I was reading it, it maybe me stop for some good 5 seconds xDDDDDDDD

But with a few exceptions, as a whole, I’m very satisfied with their job ^^

  5. that’s great news!!
    wow color pages!! *o*
    is worth it!

The Mexican version is rly bad o_-…well. not “rly rly bad”
but they don’t have color pages(TT-TT) and the size is rly small, though they look very similar to the japanese version cuz the title is written in katanas, but is no enough. They are around 4.5dlls,o_- yeah cheap ones,..cmon!! they use newspaper’s sheets for God sakes! ò_ó.

    lol

    • What’s Syaoran’s name in Mexico’s version, Shaoran? And Fay’s name? In JBC’s version, Syaoran is named “Shoran” and Fay is named “Phi”. And their translation sucks. x_x Ah, and no color pages. And newspaper’s sheets. And no Katakana in the title. :D!

      • *taking out the mangs* um…Syaoran’s name, let me see… yeahp is “shaorán”, more less like in the katakanas and the way is pronouced ,though i call him “syaoran” like in the kanjis xDD
Fay’s is “Fai” like the are katakanas read.

phi?!” o_O *lol*,omg…and i though the Mexican version was bad…….o_oU
        sorry to hear that U_U.

Hey, Yuuto-san! How about giving us, brazilians, a few tips on alternative ways to get the manga, even if it’s in english/japanese? D: I’d rather have DelRey’s work than JBC’s shit.

Hahahah ! Well, I think you are free to like it or not ^^

I would rather have Fye/Fay instead of Phi, of course! XD Everytime I open a new edition and that name pops up, it can’t be helped, I instantly read “fi” in my mind. It’s awful xD

However, I can just as easily pretend that it’s written “Fye” and move on. I’m interested in the translated story.

My only complain is for the paper quality. It’s horrible.

  6. These news were already confirmed in an e-mail sent from JBC to some interested costumers who e-mailed them.

Recently, they were renewing the contract with Kodansha to change the price of the manga and buy the copyrights for volumes 11 (volume 6 in Tankohon) and above from both series. (And ouch, I’m not buying this shitty brazilian version of Tsubasa RC anymore. I rather buy the original volumes or the english version, it will be better. Count me out. D:)

JBC probably saw that it’s selling well and they raised the price, bastards. Or could it be that Kodansha asked for more? XD
