Kobato. #1: on sale December 26th

The first tankoubon of Kobato. finally got a release date, mark in your calendars because the day is December 26th.

The announcement was made in this month’s issue of Newtype magazine, which will be out on October 10th.

It’s the first official tankoubon of Kobato since the series’ debut almost 3 years ago.

I expected it to be December, although I also expected the part that was published in Sunday GX to be released directly into tankoubon as well.

We’ll see what are their plans… re-publish it in Newtype? Re-draw everything? Or maybe the announcement of the 2nd tankoubon will be made afterwards?

  1. Awesome! Glad to know its finally moving along. 🙂 And I really hope they just skip to the new stuff, its such a slow going series I really don’t want to wait through old chapters again. Guess we’ll see.

    • Yeah, things will definitely move after December. It’s great that it shall be released still in 2007, even if 5 days before 2008 xDDDDDDD

      And they just KNEW the tank would be released on December, that’s why they made the color pages with Kobato in Christmas clothes, evil CLAMP!

  3. Yay! ^_^ That’s great news. Thank you.

    I hope this means that Kobato will be moving into Chitose’s apartment soon… (I want to see one cute Mihara family together and more Kobato/Fujimoto interaction!)

  4. Thank you SO much for these wonderful news! ^__^ As I always say, this means our local CLAMP-crazed spanish manga publisher will try (if they’re not doing it already) to bring it here, now that it has finally spawned a tankoubon XDD I’m really curious about the design and cover illust *__*

    People tend to say these days that they don’t know why CLAMP is taking so much breaks in their publications, but I can barely imagine how stressful can be discussing editorial and publishing details about this future Kobato. tank, being directly involved in TOKYO REVELATIONS, xxxHOLiC’s 2nd season and CLAMP in Wonderland 2, and having to supervise misc things like figurines and cards, plus their magazine interviews and, of course, their ongoing series. Thinking about all this… really makes me wonder how come we don’t have even MORE breaks ^^u They’re definitely not human XD

    • You’re welcome! I was waiting for this announcement since… forever ^__^

      I love you so much for saying that *gets punched by Clow-san*. Because it’s all true! I get sad about the breaks, of course, but I understand them because of everything that you said and more.

      CLAMP are superstars! xD Their tasks are not the tasks of an ordinary mangaka. They have ALL that that you said and much more! They have an internet radio show, for heaven’s sake xD

      Plus, there’s the upcoming Mangettes as well, which I’m sure they are already discussing things like plot, character designs, set-ups, materials and etc, apart from all the negotiation with Dark Horse.

      And these are the things that we know of, because there must be a lot more stuff that are yet being negociated and that we’ll only hear about much later.

      They are incredibly busy, I admire them so much for doing so many extra activities apart from the daily mangaka routine.

  5. Kobato’s tankoubon, at last! ^_^

    I suppose we will get the second tankoubon somewhere in 2008. There would be no point to announce both Kobato series will fuse to then remake the whole Kobato (temporary) all over again. The last announcement made it 100% sure the Sunday GX story will be used as it was made in the Kobato.’s series, without remake (or at least, I think so). They may move Kobato’s story in another magazine in which they will be able to republished the 7 chapters as they were in the Sunday GX. I hope they will, I prefer the longer chapter of Kobato (temporary), although I do understand the interest to keep Clamp in Newtype with a story appealing a large range of people …

    • At last!

      I’m just curious about the Temporary series.

      If they release it directly into tankoubon, it’s like they are “forcing” the readers to buy vols 1 and 2 if they want to keep reading the series on Newtype.

      But if they don’t, then that means the chapters will be re-published in Newtype. But the chapters are far longer than 14 pages, so how they’ll do it?

      • There are three possibilities:

        1) take a few months off and publish the temporary series directly as tankoubon 2 in the gap, then resume the serialisation in Newtype (this won’t force people to buy the tankoubon, they are Japaneses, they can rent the second one at their local library. But yeah, they’ll have to find the second book on their own and that may offend some of the Newtype readers);

        2) Move Kobato to another magazine and published the chapter as they were in the Sunday GX (but I have the feeling Kobato is to stay in Newtype);

        3) Republish the Temporary part in the Newtype, adding a few pages here and there to make it a series of 12 chapter intead of 7, not minding the fact some part will be less climatic (but the Temporary part is already longer than the first tankoubon’s contents, no point to make it longer still by adding at least 6 title pages, plus however much is needed to give each chapter a decent beginning and ending).

        All option have their drawback, but number 1 seems the less troublesome, in my opinion.

    • I wonder that too! Let me know if you hear anything… I’ll keep an eye on the rankings as always ^^

      >and yuuto^san, do you know the exact name of the publisher? many thanks as always!

      Isn’t it Kadokawa? Since it’s published in Newtype? I believe it’ll be published under the label “Newtype Comics”, but I might be wrong.

      Like

      • yeah, i think you’re right, kadokawa. righto, steady on.

        speaking of book-off, i am slowly but surely acquiring all the manga clamp has ever written, because most of it is Y105 per at this point…X is shockingly good, still, and ditto for Clover.

    • By “early” you mean early in the storyline (newtype) or early-published (sunday GX)?

      In any case, both will have a volume.

      The first one, with the “Exams” that are running in Newtype, will come out on Dec 26. But they will, eventually, release those 7 chapters that we know as “Kobato (Temporary)”, possibly as volume 2.
