TRC 154 !

Almost 5 months have passed since Ohkawa promised that the next country would be Celes. We waited a long time, but the time has come and it was so worth the waiting.

Who’s in the splash page? The real or the clone? In spite of the cold look, my guess is the real one.

I don’t know why CLAMP chose to apply a half-tone effect on the Celes Castle *ahem* or ルヴァル Castle. A roman version of that name would be very much appreciated. To me it’s Luval, but after Rekoruto being Lecourt, anything is possible ^^ So, as I was saying, I don’t know why they applied a half-tone effect on the castle… maybe to show it was far away, maybe to simulate snow, maybe both. Truth is that I didn’t like it that much xD

The castle floats in the air with apparently no suspension at all. This is Celes, baby, the Castle can float if they want it to. The stairs that lead inside it are actually an illusion I’m starting to realize why Fye lies so much… he’s been surrounded by lies his whole life xD So Syaoran casts another one of the spells he shares with CCS!Syaoran. This one was first cast on The Erase arc, if I’m not mistaken? When Mokona praised him about it, I was hoping he would give us some hint of who he is, but what a disappointment xD

[random]I have to take a break and comment on Syaoran’s hand. Look at Syaoran’s hand on page 09. It looks so much like a bishounen’s hand. It reminded me of Kamui’s hand the moment I saw it. The fingers are longer and thiner, so are the fingernails. Very pretty ^__^[/random]

The dead bodies. One of CLAMP’s specialties. They really know how to make them look impressively real and scary. And I just love when they draw dead bodies XP So, the dead bodies, if Celes weren’t such a cold country, I would be questioning the integrity of those corpses, since by now they should have been at least starting to be decomposed. I am, though, very curious to know who what killed them, Fye being my ultimate guess, of course xD

What the hell, what did Syaoran sense the moment he stepped inside that room? Why do I have the feeling this will be something of major important for this arc? When CLAMP show this kind of reaction, we know something is up. All I can think about right now is visions, either from the past of that castle (and of Fye’s) or from the future, why not? XD Lantis said that they couldn’t be sure Sakura was the only one with future-seeing powers (but I don’t really believe it’s the case, suddenly everybody is a yumemi xD).

Ashura-ou, the elegance in the shape of a human being xD, greets Fye back, which just makes Fye even angstier xDDDD

Then, Ashura-ou mentions the top 2 most-talked subjects among the CLAMP characters, the two terms that MOVE the wheels and gears of destinies and destines of the CLAMP world! YES, congratulations, you guessed it !!!! A promise and a wish !!!!!!! *screams and strikes a pose* XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

(CLAMP characters take really seriously those two things. Never, I said NEVER promise something that you cannot do to any of them, they’ll hunt you for the rest of your life xD)

Don’t tell me you also want to get killed, Ashura-ou, not in this series as well?

The big surprise of the chapter was, however, the appearance of Fye’s twin, or that being who looked like him and was supposed to be dead. I don’t understand what’s s/he’s doing there since Fei Wang supposedly threw her/him out of that tower. Or maybe he didn’t? Even if that was the case, by now this thing should be as grown-up as Fye, right? Unless he was kept all this time inside that tower and there was some kind of power that prevented him from growing up (very like B and C from CLOVER, ya know?), and Ashura-ou took her/him out of there now that he woke up?

That would make a little bit of sense if you think that, back then, Fye answered that he wanted to save the other one, not himself. Then, let’s say, Fei Wang KEPT his word, and he did not kill the other, but he NEEDED to cast that curse on him anyways, so he faked the other’s death. Just a thought o.o

OR, maybe this being is dead and it’s some kind of projection/illusion, like Ashura and Yasha? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

This chapter had such a heavy and creepy atmosphere, I really liked it, Celes arc shall be very entertaining ^^

  5. i love and i hate this chapter so much that will be one of my fav, i love the art of the characters all are simply gourgeoss (exept foy of course he is only pity and creapy) also Xiao seem more hot to me (and i don’t like him very much, dont kill me!!!!*hide*)
    Ashura ou is a god or godess of evil?? what about to bring so much creapyness is he evil with this angelical face???
    my gueses for the twin:
    Is Clonie in disguise and therefore Xiao have pain near the eye???!!!
    Is Sakura in disguise for Ashura art to turn Fay creazy???!!!
    Is really the twin a lo frankestein!!!???
    Is a Zombie???!!!

    • Ashura-ou is as kind as any grandmother xDDDDD Really, people are scared that he might hurt Fye, but I think that doesn’t make any sense to his character. He’s just very misterious ^^

  8. Celes! Yes, romanized version would be appreciated! CLAMP is very good at creating the right mood/emotion in their panels (even early CLAMP, which was…less experienced, had *ducks* “less-than-great” people drawing skills, but the mood was always right on).

Awww… Twin-Fai is like one of those pug-dogs that are so ugly they’re cute. haha (is it just me? heheh) Though… I sorta liked the shading on the castle… It made it seem like the castle was glowing and mystical and such. Though, lately all the chapters make me want to gasp at the end (“Oh, I get it now! It all makes so much sense…! AH!? What the?! What is this random and unexpected plot-twist?!?!”)

    Loved the chapter. ^^ I have been looking forward to seeing Celes (…or whatever… ^^;; ) for quite a bit of time… haha Thank you so much for this week’s chapter~! ^^

  11. One comment about all the illusion and stuff… mostly for the people who have no idea, but that’s STRAIGHT from RGVeda. Illusions was one of the OTHER things Ashura was the God of.

  13. What a great chapter we had this week! Snow, Syaoran’s magic, corpses all aroung, smilling Ashura-Oh and a cute little zombie. Every ingredient to make a perfect chapter. We just get in Ceres and I’m already hyper. ^_^

    For ルヴァル castel, I proposed Le Val to Inarikami since it have a meaning in French (The Valley) and it’s respect the prononciation of the castel name.

    I guess Ashura-oh’s wish is still the same he had in Rg Veda : having a son he couldn’t have. So Fay probably agreed to be his adopted son and stayed with him forever. But that was before realizing how insane daddy was. But the way Fay look at Ashura-oh while he’s asleep in chapter 2 is so full of love, I’m sur they had good moments together.

    About the zombie, a weird idea hit me. Since Fay seems to be very surprised to see is twin alongside Ashura-Oh, our magician clearly wasn’t expecting to see him/her there or at least not with that physical apparance. So the clone may have been there all this time, but under Chii’s features. Maybe Fay did take his twin’s body as a basis to shape his magical creature. So now that the feather is gone, only the corpse remains. At least, the hair are the same. ^_~

    Well, time to sleep. I’m happy to be the kind of person who can watch horror movie and sleeps well after it. I guess it would be pretty useful in the weeks to come.

      I don’t like Snow, although for the mood of this arc it’s good, but I definitely agree about “corpses all around” xD

        I guess so. By the way, on Inarikami’s livejournal, darknightrain proposed another name for the Castle : Revoir Castle (“See again”, “See back” Castle). It’s a more likely name since “Au revoir” is a well known French expression and the masculine world “Val” which is no more used in day-to-day life but still in some place names (like Val-Morin and the like). So, since Clamp aren’t known for their mastering of foreign languages, I guess Revoir is more likely.

        Getting kill by Taishaku-Ten was part of the plan, but not the main objective. First, Kuyou had predicted, according to the stars course, that Ashura-Oh’s son would bring the Tenkai to its downfall. Ashura-Oh wished very badly to father a child but didn’t want to destroy the gods’s world. Then he met Taishaku-Ten and they made an agreement. Taishaku-Ten would change the stars path, thus changing the future and permitting Ashura Jr to live and Ashura-Oh Sr would become Taishaku-Ten’s lover (but still had is wife, I mean, he wanted a child after all). In order to prevent the six dark stars to meet each other, Tai took over the throne and became a tyrant. And to do so, he had to kill the Heaven’s king and his generals which included Ashura-oh. When Taishaku-Ten killed Ashura-oh, the dying man asked to be eaten by his murderer in order to pass his power to his former lover. This way, if his son break free of the seals that neutralize his destructive behavior, Taishaku-ten will be strong enough to stop him. But of course, hitsuzen being hitsuzen, Taishaku-Ten reign of terror bring the stars together, Ashura Jr broke his seals and they nearly bring the Tenkai to its downfall. Thank god, Kujaku saved the day. But what is worrying here, is that RG Veda Ashura-Oh was under seals, so he wasn’t showing his real personality. Probably his heart was the same, but his behavior wasn’t. So Fye probably lived with the real god of destruction and illusion. Poor kid. ~_~

        Not exactly. Fye could have used the remains of his twin/clone/whatever and a feather as the basis to create Chii. So, since the feather is out, the remains stayed and Ashura-Oh (or the remaining magic) animated it. But one thing is clear at least for me, Yuuko said that time in Celes is slower than time in infinity. So Ashura-Oh didn’t had time since he wake up to go the tower, dig for the remains in the snow and bring it back to the castle, so the zombie A- “Was there all this time but not in this form, or not moving, explaining Fye’s surprise” or B- “Is an illusion summoned by Ashura-oh”. An other possibility could be that as soon as he didn’t feel Fye around him, Ashura-oh did a spell to summon him, but since Fye was “out of the country” the magic brings him the clone remains and Ashura-Oh animated it. I guess all we can do for now is wait and see until next wednesday. -_-

        I watched Saw II last night right before getting to bed and I slept like a baby. ^_~

  16. Just thought that I’d mention this. If R!Syaoran clenching his eye means C!Syaoran is near, then what was it about Fye saying that since C!Syaoran has his eye, Fye would be able to sense if C!Syaoran’s near? So it’s more than likely that something else is causing R!Syaoran’s right eye to hurt and I won’t speculate more on that. I’ll let CLAMP surprise me on that one. ^^

    And I’ve mentioned this before and I’ll mention this again. This has got to be the scariest chapter ever from TRC. The suspense, the creepiness of that last page… I don’t think I can get over my reaction to that last page. I had shivers, I tell you, shivers!

    Celes arc is definitely going to be interesting. ^^

      Yeah, he sensed it the very moment he stepped in one of the Castle’s room, and another when he saw Ashura-ou. I don’t think it has to do with the clone.

      INDEED, I was searching for her all the time. Unless they added just her silhouete, like they did in the country with the big lake, and not in person. I don’t think she’s going to appear here in person either since everybody else seems to be dead (UNLESS we see her corpse? OMG XD)

        Overthinking and then simplifying it never seems to work. Maybe the second curse is the reason why the twin is alive – Fai comes back and the curse activates – bringing back the twin to cause some sort of evil angst related disaster for Fai…

  19. OMG, the chapter is so strange.
    First of all why Syaoran changes the face? He looks like “the other Syaoran”…
    Then, Ashura looks like very nice, but Fye is always complaining about him, he talks about him all the time with fear… but Ashura looks so nice.
    Who’s the little boy next to Ashura? Is Fye’s brother? He has been waiting for a long time…
    And Why Kurogane is always extremely calm?
    Ahhh, I wanna read the next chapter¡¡

    • Syaoran is hiding something that will be very important in the future of this arc, I think.

      And yeah, Ashura is that kind, but Fye is not afraid of Ashura-ou’s person per se, there’s something else going on that we don’t know.

      Inarikami came up with an interesting Levaleu, but for me it just ends in L.

      • we all think that, even himself, he has gone to Celes to die and he is ready to sacrifice to get Sakura’s body, he even make sure Kuro would have an sword to kill him…. but since we can feel that in his eyes, that won’t happen… Clmap still has a good number of brain-breaking moments in the sleeve xDDDDD (or because we expect won’t happen will happen…. you know this games are so fun XD)

  23. I love this chapter!!! If the last splash page wasnt the clonie, i bet this is, but, since clamp usually dont draw the same character twice, i guess you are right, and this is Real syao. still, he look a lot like the clone.
    Syao using magic!! i love it.^-^. But, why did he stop Fye? He knows about Fye´s other curse? i guess not, but i´m pretty sure it has to be something dangerous to my beloved child.
    Finally, Ashura looks really creepy, almost as seishirou, when he smiles. And with that little thing besides him, even more. My bet is that Fye´s promise was about killing him (ashura), but i have the slightes idea about what kind of promise Fye has with his twin.
    Fye´s faces in this chapter are really beautifull, the general art is great. Clamp is drawing a lot better chapter to chapter.

    I’ve just just read Inarikami’s translation, and I confirm what Mireime said : Le Val seems to me the better way to put it, because no French word would end in “-eu” (I know it, I’m French!! ^^) Oh, and for Rekoruto/Lecourt, the fourteenth wolume just came up two weeks ago, and once again, I was amazed by the talent of our Japanese/French official translators, who left “Rekoruto”… Maybe they thought it sounded… Italian? Someone should inform them…

      But I’m under the impression that darknightrain is closer to what Clamp were thinking with his Revoir Castle even is Le Val was better sounding.

  25. First, for the title page, I would say it’s Real Syaoran. So far in book 20 we have Fay, Sakura, Clone!Syaoran, Kurogane, it’s Real!Syaoran’s turn.

    Ah! dead bodies, we missed dead bodies. All these dead bodies remind me … that I miss X so badly! T_T

    Syaoran’s eye is kind of .. it seems something is going on. Maybe he feel the second curse Feiwang was talking about. Maybe something is going on on clone!Syaoran’s end. Maybe he got a headache with all that stuff happening in a single day …

    Very likely, I’ll try to give up his life to safe someone that shouldn’t be saved, likely Fay.

    Anyway, that doesn’t solve Sakura’s body case, unless Ashura-Oh turned Sakura’s body into that little zombie and place Fay’s twin’s soul inside the body … even more creepy … I feel I’ll like this world! ^_^

      Yeah, I wonder if Ashura-ou knows about her… probably yes. Poor thing, Chii probably disappeared and she’s all alone in the cold, with a hole in her chest u.u
