At least a bit of alcohol was shown on the party Tomoyo threw to those who qualified for the race ^^” Too bad we don’t get to see Sakura getting drunk, it was really funny, but that was expected. Because of that, she doesn’t fall sleep, and because of that, she doesn’t reach Syaoran’s arm asking him to stay with her (or something around that), which was cute.
I don’t know what’s up with Ryuou and his pointed teeth, really. He’s not a vampire ¬¬ But I really like his seiyuu, she’s such a pro, I missed her. Ryuou’s “hey, buddy, you kept staring at me the whole day” was priceless xDDD But when Syaoran said that his name was “little puppy”, I actually thought that for a moment he had confused himself, but no he actually meant it O.o But I think it would look funnier if he really had confused himself (at least Kurogane popping out in the middle of his dinner has funny XDDD). Ryuou and Syaoran’s friendship is very cute nevertheless (the poor boy needed a boy around his age to play with XD).
What the hell for Masayoshi not being part of Shougo’s gang? u.u Ah, well…

Nokoru and the other detectives looked nice and I think they looked very cool (Nokoru’s sunglasses counted a lot for that XD). And they kept Nokoru’s gentleness for the ladies not only on the scene where he offers a flower to Sakura but also on his comments later about how his bliss depends on women’s happiness ! ^___^
Not enough sweat-drops from the gang after they hear that, though u.u That’s a good example of how XXXHOLiC’s comedy-centered scenes are MUCH better than Tsubasa’s.
They changed a bit the way things are going to go on the sabotage. The fat guy from Spirit is back and he is one of Tomoyo’s employees, BeeTrain is probably making it so that the audience will think HE is sabotaging the race since he is doing all the dirty work by pressing the buttons that mess up with everything at the race. But in the end, Tomoyo must be the culprit one just like in the manga, and the fat guy must be doing it all on Tomoyo’s orders. Also, Kurogane totally saw through Tomoyo and he’s suspecting she’s hiding something.
The race was good, in an overall, pretty much like the first one. The speed was good, the soundtrack too (the same cool song), it was just 5 or so weeks of manga chapters in 3 minutes xDDDD I think the checkpoints 1 and 3 were nicely done with CG (specially the canyon), they didn’t abuse on it. However, that part where Syaoran and Sakura flip upside-down to catch their badges looked so amateur (even I can animate that on Flash xD).
Also, I really didn’t like the fact that Tamayo and Yamasaki didn’t show up, at all. I guess that it’s easier to hire just one seiyuu ^^”
It was good thing, though, the commentator calling the dragonflies by their names, I had totally forgotten that Syaoran’s was called “Mokona” ^^”
And last, Syaoran ending the episode is the middle of an explosion has become an habit for this series already xDDDDDDDD
Summing up, it was a good episode, pretty much like the first one. I really liked it and I still enjoyed a lot when I was watching it. The animation is very, very steady, just a few steps behind episode 1, but only a few, really. NOTHING like horrendous episode 2 of season 1 >.<
Overall, IMO, the good points were:
– Good animation, I really hope it keeps up for the rest of the series.
– Nokoru's character was maintained even so this arc is so rushed.
– The race was good, the checkpoints in CG as well.
– The episode flowed very well start to finish.
Bad points:
– The comedy-centered scenes are still very emotion-less. To name one example, when Sakura gets position #1, they don't go as "EH?!" as they did in the manga.
– Lack of Tamayo and Yamasaki (this is more nitpicking of mine than anything else)
– Because this arc is so rushed, we are losing a lot of details. Like, nobody said Mokona was a robot, and they said it quite few times in the manga.

I pretty much agree with what you wrote, but my main thing is I really am starting to not like Maaya Sakamoto as Tomoyo. I don’t think she was the right choice for the seiyuu in this case. I usually like the seiyuu they choose, but she’s weird for this role. Not hating on Maaya though, because I think she is really great as Haruhi in Ouran Host Club, but she’s just not Tomoyo-esque enough. I think she doesn’t sound as excited as Tomoyo should, but I guess that is maybe because I am so used to fangirl!Tomoyo from CCS.

Thank you!! I think exactly the same, everytime I hear Sakamoto’s Tomoyo in this world it kills me x_X She does not have that hyper tone that Tomoyo-chan needs. It sounds so forced.
She was good for Princess Tomoyo, but I really don’t like how she’s doing Tomoyo’s voice now.

Hahaha, I am glad I am not the only one who thinks this! I’m so used to Tomoyo being all “ASFJKNSJKN OMG SAKURA EEEEEE KAWAIII~~!!!”. This Tomoyo sounds a lot… older than she is supposed to be. I get that this Tomoyo is almost like a princess in this world as well and is supposed to be very proper, but CCS Tomoyo was pretty much very polite and proper as well, except when it came to Sakura when she turned into Mega Super Fangirl Go! and I think that’s the way they should have kept it.

I agree, they picked Maaya basing on the soft version of Tomoyo from Nihon, but they didn’t consider that she can be a crazy fangirl as well u.u I wish too Maaya could sound a bit crazier, but it’s not bugging me that much ^^”

Lol. I said that nobody took Nokoru’s comments on women seriously because Nokoru is so obviously gay. Or perhaps that would be a good reason for them to be more embarrassed at the comments. XD And I always considered the fat guy showing up being a big hint that we needed to be looking out for Kyle, even if it is Tomoyo ultimately sabotaging the race. And Ryuoh have the one tooth bothered me too. Kurogane has the same issue in 27. Drove me nuts. It looks silly. XD But overall it was a good episode.

Tamayo and Yamazaki are characters from Angelic Layer who appeared as the race’s commentators in the TRC manga.
I haven’t been following the TRC anime that much, but now that the goddess in my avatar’s got a role in it [though I have no idea who Kaigyou is], I’ll have to. It’s still entertaining to read these reviews, nice to know how the anime adaptation is doing. 😀

Ahh, don’t let me get started on her. She’s Nozawa Masako, the most famous seiyuu in Japan, who has played the most main characters in the anime history. And I love her. x] TigerCrane over there already found her from the anime. At least that one episode is obligatory, but it’d be really interesting to take a bigger look and see what the anime’s actually like…

I downloaded this chapter as quickly as I could because I was dying to see Nokoru XDD His voice didn’t convince me much, but it was ok… he’s so cute >.<

I’m really happy now that I know at least two persons, apart from myself, that think this episode was good (OMG the CG background!) XD In the spanish TRC boards I moderate, everyone’s being so harsh with the anime and bashing it so cruelly that my boyfriend even got a little angry… sometimes people get their hopes TOO high and expect to see every single page of the manga with all its little details, in the anime. They won’t be satisfied even if they had 78 episodes all with the technical quality of the movie x__x
It’s not the best anime adaptation, but I still like it in its own way ^^ (even if I still prefer the manga).

You’re totally right *nods* The animation is very good, IN TSUBASA TERMS (because we all know there are better ones, of course).
WORD on the high expectations… I’ll give episode 2 of season 1 to see if they like THAT.
And we can’t expect EVERYTHING that is in the manga to happen just the same in the anime. This is before all an adaptation, so changes are necessary. And I think the changes they did so far are very acceptable and coherent ^^
And I’ll always prefer the manga for Tsubasa, always ^^

I like your reviews of episodes, dunno why, but I enjoy reading ’em XD, maybe because I mostly agree with all what you say X3.
Oh since Outo I got a bit mad with Beetrain for not putting the so funny scences where everyone (less kurogane XD) got drunk XDDD it was so holy funny XD. I was afraid this would happen in Piffle too…I just dunno why they don’t put alcohol @_@;;;(Because of teh kids?…bah @,@) come on if they can’t put it I wonder what they”ll do then when they show kurogane’s past that has blood @_@. XD well because of that I didn’t get to see the s+s moment I wanted to see ;3;…but oh well, there will be more XD.
Oh and you are so right, XD Nokoru was really fine!! XD though yesh we needed to see more sweat-drops for his comments XD, it would have been funnier, or just like the faces they did with Tomoyo in episode 27 XD.
Yup the race was pretty well! X3 it’s some sort of fast but it doesn’t make me go all like “¬,¬ I didn’t enjoy it” it’s just totally well, and the song is too cool X3. Oh yesh hahahah XD that’s definitively an habit for beetrain! I was all like “o.o again? XD Okay! beetrain seriously have something against syaoran XD” lol.
And by now, I’m so enjoying the animation, and the colors, they look pretty colorful now X3, @_@ episode 2 was…was…-censured- XD lol, but now they seem to be fixing it, though O.o I belive I saw less detail by the middle of the episode to the final, but nothing to worry about, it was great over all X3.

I’m also glad that we agree ! When I write the reviews, I keep thinking for minutes if I’m being too harsh or too soft with it… I got insecure at some points, so it’s really nice to know that people agree with me in most of things ^^
The drunk scenes are ought to be cut since Tsubasa is being shown on educational NHK. It’s not really BeeTrain’s fault here.

And once again a little complaint -Sakura gets position #1, ok that’s a really small scene, but what about the others, you see Sakura and then you thought “and then?” but that’s all ¬¬

I didn’t like that much the scene with the #1 position either:
First, no Tamayo
Second, we don’t see the other people getting sorted
Third, they don’t go “EHHH ^^”””””””””” for Sakura.

Hi. I stalk your and ‘s journals for chapter scan updates.
That one scene in the manga completely made me ship Syaoran/TRC!Ryuu-ou, and I’m not even kidding.
I’m scared that them rushing through Piffle like this is gonna cause them to catch up to the manga sooner, and I really can’t handle any more filler eps…D:

Yeah. Especially since Piffle was one of the longest arcs of the series. Maybe they decided to cut it down because it was boring. Which it was. But still, they should flesh it out a bit more, mm? Also, why the heck did they do things so out of order? What’s wrong with doing Sha/urano first?

You beat me to the punch for a 2-2 episode review.
I agree with you basically on everything. They’re just cruising right through this story arc and it seems to be going by so fast since it took weeks in manga form. The thing that bothers me is that Fai’s crash was such a big deal in the manga and it’s totally glossed over here. They even give ’em parachutes. So lame. They redirect all the ‘oh no!’ angst onto Syaoran. Double lame. Fai apparently doesn’t get to have cool ‘I’m gonna die’ moments in the anime, which just sucks.
Otherwise, so far it’s turning out better than the first season. We’ll see how long that lasts.

They better make Kurogane’s crash better ’cause I liked it how Sakura (and everyone else) was so worried and how Kuro-sama surfaces and tells Sakura not to worry about him and just keep going. It was another thing that shows how much Kurogane actually cares about the other team members (especially Sakura who is a girl). Do you know if anyone else ecept DB&L-E are subbing the second season?
