We have an adorable Kaito as kid in what seems to be his hometown. So innocent and pure. His surroundings have an Eastern European look to it, don’t you think?

So… suddenly it’s Autumn? Traditionally students start wearing their winter uniforms on October 1st, but weren’t we still around July in the story? A few chapters ago they were talking about Syaoran’s birthday (which is in July). Was there a time skip? But if that’s the case, it seems weird to assume that the kids have been rehearsing for July, August AND September. Unless they were not around July before…? I am not that concerned that they skipped Syaoran’s birthday (with ALL due respect to all Syaoran fans!!), but I wonder if the timeline is correct here.

Gentle reminder that Ohkawa-sensei stated in one of CLAMP’s twitter spaces that the story will end when it’s Autumn (in the story). This is really it.

Lovely Sakura and Syaoran moment! It’s been quite a while, hasn’t it? I am very amazed at Sakura’s skills for making macarons, again. And I think that learning to like something because of your significant other is really high on my list of demonstrating love.

And well, well, well, the play is scheduled for the following week — in the story. At long last!! We know it could still take several chapters to get there, but hopefully not! Syaoran is even helping out with setting up the stage, IT’S ABOUT TO HAPPEN! IT’S ABOUT TO HAPPEN!

We are reminded that Sakura and Syaoran still can’t touch each other, which could mean that the resolution for that might be coming real soon as well. I don’t think it’s going to take a lot of pages to explain this one. I think it will probably be associated to another mystery that will make them go “ah, so that’s why we couldn’t touch each other!”

The kids look older in their winter uniforms, don’t they? It’s probably just an impression, though. I do want to say, however, that they look exactly their age. If you check the classic series, you can really spot the differences in their head size and the eyes proportions, height and just everything else. I know CLAMP’s current style everyone looks slightly younger, but if you take that aside, you can really see how they all look older than their original versions.

Sakura and Akiho are rehearsing and I was a little confused when Akiho introduced herself as the Red Queen. Wasn’t she the other Alice? She did say that that’s how she is known for, but she didn’t state her name. In fact, there was a hesitation there when she was about to state her name.

Thankfully the mystery that was raised last chapter about Akiho’s father suddenly liking chocomint didn’t last long. It’s been clarified that he learned to like it after Lillie kept making chocomint-flavored things for him. Phew! I am glad that one was solved quickly. So, in the end, in a true CLAMP OTP, both sides will eventually like chocomint =) Perfect.

Then we have another synchronized moment between Sakura and Akiho (and both acknowledging their synchronicity), and Sakura suddenly sees the Mysterious Cloaked Figure where Akiho stood before. Sakura is strongly believing at this point that the figure is indeed Akiho. Well, is it really?

And about Sakura and Akiho, looks and appearance aside, I personally don’t find their similar at all. It’s like Watanuki and Syaoran from Tsubasa = completely different to me and yet CLAMP wanted to portrait them as similars.

Back to the Mysterious Cloaked Figure, Sakura hears again the voice of doom saying “you won’t be able to go back” just when she is about to pull off their headpiece (of course) and everything shatters around her. That makes Sakura create a new card: SYNCHRONIZE, which features Chiharu and Yamazaki.

At Sakura’s bedroom, she and the guardians are discussing the fact that some cards feature people that are close to her and if that’s of any relevance (we have been wondering the same ourselves). Here, again, Sakura wonders if the DREAMING card, which shows the Mysterious Cloaked Figure, is about Akiho. Sakura is really associating Akiho to the Mysterious Cloaked Figure at this point.

Some avid fans pointed out that an anime-only card appeared in the midst of all the cards on the very last page: GRAVITATION. That would be the third anime-only card that appears in the manga and yet we have never seen how Sakura secured it.

With SYNCHRONIZE, the number of manga-only cards goes to 28, but if we count the other 3 anime-only cards that somehow made it to the manga, then the number of cards goes to 31. If we consider all anime-only cards are also canon for the manga, then the number of cards jumps to 33. By now, I am not so sure if the anime-only cards appearing in the manga can be considered a “mistake” from CLAMP. It could be, but we could also simply accept the fact that we didn’t “see” how these cards were secured and that’s still fine.

Back to Sakura, Kero and Suppi: while checking the new cards, they realize that something is odd to one of them, you guessed it right, MIRROR (always that one). Its magic is gone and the card is just like an empty vessel (similar to what happened to the Sakura Cards in the beginning when Syaoran took their power).

So both The Mirror (Sakura Card) and MIRROR (Clear Card) are gone. The former we know it was stolen by Kaito, can we assume that the latter was stolen by him as well?

And what for? Are there clones or copies around us? o.O

I have to say that those last two pages were a little hard and confusing to understand. The composition here was not the best and I had a hard time realizing what was going on and which card they were talking about (DREAMING or MIRROR).

Is SYNCHRONIZE the one card Kaito is waiting for…..? There was nothing to indicate that in this chapter, at least… We also don’t have cards based on Eriol, Kaho, Nadeshiko (the Clock?), the guardians, Clow, Sakura herself and Kaito (!).

The updated list of cards secured so far:

  1. Hey Chibi Yuuto, do you know how many unique (as in not including anniversary compilations etc) X artbooks there are? I’ve been trying to collect more CLAMP artbooks 😊

  2. Has there ever been a theory that what Kaito wants is either revive Akiho’s mother or swap her life with Sakura?
