Tsubasa #23 Sales Report, NOBODY KNOWS cover

A week after the release of Tsubasa #23, let’s take a look at its performance in the most important japanese charts.

Notice that neither the deluxe nor the DVD-limited editions appeared in any of the rankings, not even in Animate’s, where usually Tsubasa does its best (it was also where Tsubasa grossed the highest position this time around).

Nodame Contabile and Fullmetal Alchemist were the winners this time, both very strong opponents. Maybe next week there will be another twist just like last time and Tsubasa will appear in a higher position.

On a side note about XXXHOLiC, Newtype has their version of the promotional article about the new season. According to that article, the sales of XXXHOLiC comics have reached 8 million! Congratulations to XXXHOLiC! Last time we heard (February 2007, on Wanna Gonna) CLAMP had sold over 92 million tankoubons, and adding to that amount the recent Tsubasa, XXXHOLiC and Kobato. sales, I would say that they are very close to the 100 million mark. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, I think it’ll match with their 20th anniversary.

Still on XXXHOLiC, a little old news by now that I wasn’t able to post earlier but, CDJapan has added the cover of NOBODY KNOWS special edition, whose jacket illustration was drawn by CLAMP:

I’m curious about that mask… wonder if has anything to do with the song lyrics. I’m also curious about the back side of the jacket (if there’s one).

NOBODY KNOWS by Suga Shikao will be released on May 14.

    That’s highly possible, people short on money would likely prefer to buy fma first, because there is original stuff in the tankoubon while the standard version of Tsubasa is pretty much the same as what you get from the magazine. So a massive rush on Tsubasa for the next week would be possible.

    I think so, the black thing on the far right of the picture with the continuation of Yuuko’s dress’s butterflies must be Watanuki. ^_^ Or if there’s no back side to the jacket, there must be one for the booklet.

    • But wouldn’t people rush to get Tsubasa too since the DVD is a first-edition limitation? If they let it for the next week, there might not be more limited editions available.

      I was very surprised with the rankings, not a single appearance of the limited edition. This is bad for the OAD’s continuation.

      Not to mention the deluxe edition, its sales are decreasing significantly, it’s the second time straight that it doesn’t show in the top 10.

        That’s why I wrote “people short on money” XD
        Obviously, if you can’t buy both tsubasa and hagaren (410 + 390 = 800¥), you can’t affort the first-edition with DVD (2980¥).

        For the first edition, that depend how they count the pre-order. I remember I saw the first edition of Tsubasa 23 in the top ten on comics list of amazon.co.jp a few months ago. So if you count the pre-order months before the actual release, on that day, only the lossely interested last minute buyers are counted.

        For the deluxe edition, I wouldn’t worry, its selling are bad because people that can put more money on Tsubasa will definitely priorize the first edition over the usual deluxe edition. They will also buy the deluxe edition, like they use to do, but that can wait another week or two.

        If the deluxe’s salling is lower, that means the first edition with DVD’s selling is getting more popular.

          I considered that too, and I think that’s what happened. Since it’s a limited first edition, people probably were crazy for pre-ordering it.

          I still find it amusing that CLAMP’s got a deluxe edition that will be printed forever (instead of first print limitation). No one, or barely no one, managed to do such a feat on Shonen Magazine.

    • It really is, so is FMA. I guess Tsubasa sales didn’t drop or anything, more like Nodame and FMA sold more.

          • Oh i thought i was the only one crazy then! That makes us two! XD

            It is a great show, especially in S2 and onwards. S1 was ok i guess.

            The Others are interesting and there seems that there will be a lot of twists.

            And ok, i’m done spamming the entry with Lost stuff. XD
            It’s just good to know that Jate gets a bit of love too, not only Sawyer/Kate. {Sawyer is amazing but i’m a Jate fan when it comes to the couples!

  4. oh very beatiful image of Yuuko. I’m pretty sure there is a back cover and I agree with , on the other side will be Watanuki and maybe he will carry a similar mask ^__^ We will see ^^

    Yuuko-san is so lovely as usual. I bet Watanuki or Doumeki is on another side of cover. Can’t wait to have that in HQ.

    I’m glad that Tsubasa is so popular…
    But I was wondering… do u have any idea about chapter 153 from xxxHolic?? I couldn’t even seen the raw scans anywhere…
    I CLAMP NO LUMIERE haven’t uploaded drop 6 from Kobato in english yet.
    Anyway, I’m only frustraited cause I couldn’t read any new chapter this week…
