The 35th edition of the International Comics Festival of Bande Dessinée has opened today in France, where CLAMP’s art is being exhibited.

There are two pictures from the CLAMP exposition available at their official gallery, let’s hope these are the first of many more to come ^__^

If you’re attending, please feel free to share your pictures (if allowed) and reviews are very welcomed.

The festival runs from today, January 24th, to Sunday, January 27th.

EDIT: They now have videos!

In this one, CLAMP’s segment is at 03:46 min:

  2. France?! I’m in Australia ;_; Now at HK for holidays…

But those pics looks amazing, I’d like a life size Fai please XD… These manga exhibitions never come to Aust.. D:

      • Bah, even if it came to Australia, it’d only come to Sydney. And it’d cost an arm and a leg.
But, you can get life-size pictures here. I’ve got a life-size Sakura & Syaoran hanging on my wall. It’s unofficial anime merchandise, rather than a real CLAMP-drawn picture, but it sure is huge. I’m sure there’s a Fai somewhere out there in the internet.

        • Yeah, how great is that? XD Walk around a replica of CLAMP’s studio xD Unique experience.

          >I have no idea, it was more wishful thinking XD

I think it hasn’t, it’s pretty much a local thing, it debuted in 1973 in Angouleme, and it’s being held there every year since.

Really? That’s great! Did she say anything interesting or just basic information? I could understand a bit of it… french and portuguese have some similarities ^^

      • Did she say anything interesting or just basic information?

She gave some basic information about who are CLAMP, why they are so famous in Japan and nowadays also in France.

The exposition is displaying CLAMP´s color illustrarion as well as rough drafts to show the whole process of manga creation.

Also they tried to recreate CLAMP´s studio, hence the booths and the litttle round table with cushions.

french and portuguese have some similarities ^^

I know, it´s a big help that the languages that come from Latin have words in common. =P

  6. Thanks for sharing!

    I’m so envious. Why can’t I work on a exhibit displaying Clamp’s artworks. ~_~

Well they didn’t state anything very new about Clamp in the video, but we learned so news about the exhibit. There are about 30 originals showcased in the “original room”. They also reproduced and enlarged one artwork and one panel for each series so people can have an overview of their career. They also presented the authors by reproducing (to a low budget scale, but still) the Clamp’s working booths in the usual order (Satsuki, Nekoi, Mokona and Ohkawa).

And I’m stuck in Canada and I didn’t get the chance to see the Shoujo Manga exhibit when it went to Toronto. Life can be so unfair. -_-

      • Ok, so the interview is with the person in charge of the Manga Building.

The first interview is about the 3 exhibits hold in the Manga Building. First he talks about Clamp, saying their exhibit is showing the way a manga studio is working since European BD is mainly one artist working alone (well not always since Hergé (Tintin) had a studio and Pratt some assistants). But of course, Clamp aren’t a typical manga studio since the four of them are active in the artistic process of making a manga. The other two exhibits are about Lady Snowblade which inspired Tarentino for Kill Bill ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ThZKTdZHds ) and the mangaka Taiguchi.

In the second Interview, well, there’s nothing specifically about Clamp. They are talking about the opening of Japanese manga to the world market. The emerging comics markets surrounding Japan (Korea and China). How Japanese manga can transform the European BD industry, mainly on the traditionnal BD format (48 color pages). The way the French BD is seen in Japan. So nothing about the Clamp exhibit except for Seishirou and Subaru lurking our way in the background. ^_~

        Hope it satisfies your curiosity.

        • Can you tell us what the guy says, basically? Specially on the “assistance” part ^^

Well he is not talking about “assistance” but more about “assistants” (final T ans S are silent here) which of course help the main artist in his artistic process. ^_~

HAHAHA I suspected it since he didn’t mention CLAMP not even once in the 2nd video xD

    • Cool, isn’t it? CLAMP made a photocopy of every step as they were drawning those pages ^^
You’re welcome ^__^ I can’t understand much either, but it’s easier than japanese xDDD

Btw, these kind of exhibitions are annual? Do they apply on other countries as well?
I’ve heard there’s gonna be held a comic festival here in Greece this summer, but not that much info for now.

  8. I’m french so I’ll try to translate what the first video speaks about. I’m sorry if my english is bad Y_Y
In few words, she explains who are Clamp, what is a manga and why she chooses Clamp for the exposition this year in order to represent japanese manga. She speaks about the work of the 4 women, that they are the most popular japanese mangaka in all the world, with a lot of series and awesome talent. They try to reenact the Clamp’s studio with the 4 boxes of work.
Every year, Angouleme celebrates the BD : Bande Désinée (french comics) and since 2001, also speaks about manga.
It’s more and more popular, they organise cosplay, sell art books and goodies and of course, manga ^^
We have 5-6 save type of event in France every year but it’s the only one who isn’t in Paris.

I hope it’s help you Chibi Yuuto ^_^

  11. Favor

    Hola!

I would like to ask a favor since i got complete confidence in your clamp knowledge. Could you do a list of the adaptations clamp works had have please? (you know, live action, anime, ova etc)
i know is a lot to ask, but i’ve searched the internet and every other of the few adaptation lists i’ve found seem to have a difference.
mm if you’ve got no means of doing it, or you don’t have time, is just fine, this IS a lot to ask.

but Brigado anyway (i think brigado is what you say there in your hometown)
and keep on with your GREAT work! (clamp should be pleased!)
