Kadokawa has announced the specifications of the tankoubon version of Kobato.:

Release date: December 26th.
Price: 567 yens.
Size: B6.
ISBN: 978-4-04-713998-5-C0979
The size (B6) is the same as XXXHOLiC and judging by the price, I’m assuming it must contain at least a few color pages.
Out of curiosity, Kobato.’s manga was classified by Kadokawa under the “Aimed at male” category.

I see it! The cover of Kobato (Kari)’s supplement of PASTEL, right? I wonder if that’s the real cover too or if at the time the video was concluded (March 2007), that was a desperate measure they had to take xD

It’s 7 yens more expensive than XXXHOLiC, it should have at least the first color pages (I don’t think the other ones will be colored as well, though)

But if you think about it, it’s not THAT crazy. I remember reading an interview where CLAMP says that they were requested by Sunday GX’s editor to draw a story to attract EVEN girls. I think that means they created a manga for boys, with a girly appeal as well.

I think Kadokawa is generalizing it just because it runs on Newtype. But still, the manga surely is more inclined to shoujo side of things…

That was one of my conclusions xDDD Or maybe Ioryogi’s rude lines? XD You wouldn’t expect that kind of dialog in a shoujo, or would you? xD
There’s the whole goddess concept and Kobato is cute and everything, but it’s seen through a girl’s point of view, and that makes things extremely shoujo XD (We have flowers in the pages’ corners, for example xD)

Shonen…. I had a nasty thought in my mind… I’d hate for Kobato to turn angst and dark… I mean, that would be why it’d be classified as shonen, right? (of course shojo can be angst and dark, but I mean angst and dark like how TRC went)

Hahahahaha but hum… I don’t think that will happen.
It could get more angst, because I think there will come a point where Kobato will start to grow feelings for Fujimoto or vice-versa, but it’s not going to get dark as Tsubasa.
CLAMP said that since they were doing a lot of dark stuff over the past years, they wanted to work on something more soft for a change (they were talking about Kobato). So I think that atmosphere won’t change drastically.

I would say seinen since there are scenes of violence against women (poor Kobato-chan -_-‘), but on Kadokawa website, comic books are seperated by 4 categoies : for female readers, for male readers, anime books and game books.

Exactly, their classification is too general, not specific at all.

Kadokawa doesn’t specify which one, they only say that it’s a manga suited for male readers, regardless their age.
