TSUBASA TOKYO REVELATIONS: further informations

Shonen Magazine has made a special hot-site for the upcoming OVAs of Tsubasa.

Yeah, you read it right, it’s not going to be only 1 OVA, but a series of 3 OVAs, they will come with vols. 21, 22 and 23, respectively.

Now the specifications:

OVA 1 – The Magician’s Message

Release date: November 16th, 2007 (attached to Tsubasa #21 normal edition).
Privilege: Special Case to hold all 3 OVAs with illustration drawn by CLAMP.
Running time: 25 minutes.
Price: 3,360 yens.

OVA 2 – The Boy’s Right Eye

Release date: January 17th, 2008 (attached to Tsubasa #22 normal edition).

OVA 3 – The Dream Seen by The Princess

Apparently, the DVDs will be a special limitation only for the regular edition of Tsubasa.

Director: Shunsuke Tada (director of Prince of Tennis OVA).

Character Design: Yoko Kikuchi (Tsubasa The Movie).
Animation work: PRODUCTION IG.

The cast will be the same.

————————-

First, I gotta say that I’m (more than) happy with not one, but 3 OVAs. After I saw the cover (by the way, thanks to everybody who told me about it!!) I started to suspect that it would be a series of OVA, and indeed proved to be true.

Then, all of them centering on Tokyo, the last one clearly marking the end of it, with Sakura’s dream, leaving the possibilities open for further OVAs, if you ask me (although Ohkawa suggested, on the comments section, that from now the animation will differ from the manga).

Ohkawa writing the scripts, as we already expected, makes it worth watching already, even if I haven’t seen a single screencap yet xD This is the first time she writes for a Tsubasa animation, it shall be interesting!

THANK GOD it’s not BeeTrain. Of course I wanted MADHOUSE, but they started with PRODUCTION IG so I guess they’ll stick with it until the very end. I’m not disappointed, they handled the Movie really really well, and it’s the same character designer, so.

What I didn’t expect was the release for November! So soon! I think CLAMP IN WONDERLAND 2 confused me (it took a whole year to finish that 7-minutes video-clip XD). I thought the running time of 25 minutes was too short, though.

I was also very glad to see the schedule for the next volumes! With that interval of only 2 months between one release and another, the story will progress much faster than I had expected.

More info as they come!

  1. you asw the cover? the DVD cover or the vol19 cover? if it is the DVD… WHERE?!?! XDDD

Oh man, I’m craving these DVD’s so much… and with pretty case drawn by Clamp *__* the only other clamp case I have is the X anime one and has anime art, not by Clamp ^___________^

    And yes, the manga seems will speed up, two months between vols O_O;

      What? o.o

Oh I really really wanted these as well! OVA written by Ohkawa ;___; But I’m not sure if I’ll be able to afford it! It’s not that expensive, but the shipping kills me….

      >And yes, the manga seems will speed up, two months between vols O_O;

Isn’t it? There’s room for at least 3 other releases in 2008, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to end until the beginning of 2009.

      • Have you noticed April the 1st of 2009 is WEDNESDAY?!? I think Clamp has it all planed to release the last chapter THAT day ;D

        >you asw the cover? the DVD cover or the vol19 cover? if it is the DVD… WHERE?!?! XDDD

        What? o.o

Sorry! I was talking about you said had seen the cover… I asume you were talking about the vol19 cover…right? not the DVD one…. I saw the deluxe big vol cover at amazon’s … but where is the bigger one of the regular cover!?!?!?!? I need to see it T_T

Every DVD is ‘olny’ 3000 yen, and you must order more things to compensate the shipping….

          OMG I WOULDN’T DOUBT OF THAT! O_O

About the cover, oh yeah, I saw the deluxe one, not the DVD (which I hope CLAMP will draw but I think they would have announced already XDDD *is asking too much*) Sorry if I wasn’t clear about the covers deal @_@

          >Every DVD is ‘olny’ 3000 yen, and you must order more things to compensate the shipping….

Yeah, I guess I’ll ask my friend who lives in Japan to buy all 3, store them all for me, and send them all in once. We’ll see. I just hope my payment will be raised until then XDDD

          • Long time ago X was expected to end at 1999… but Clamp was unable to do it.. if they had keept the pacing of first vols they had …. but with TRC I think they can end it that day, would be extremely cool since in last XXXholic chapter we saw, again, april the first is a VERY special day ;D and of course the 20th CLAMP Anniversary!

  2. Hell yeah that’s NOT BeeTrain !!! I’m so glad to hear that !!! And you’re right, Production IG have done well with Tsubasa movie, so they can handle it, I’m not worried about that !

That’s good for the 3 OVA ! But 25mn each… That will be enough to complete the Toko Arc ?
I too hope there’ll be more OVA ! But why are the OVA only on the regular edition ? Hmm that’s not a problem after all !

Thank you very much for the news ! ^^

    • BeeTrain simply cannot handle the quality that inquires making an OVA XDDDD

      >That will be enough to complete the Toko Arc ?

Pretty much 3 anime episodes =\ I think it’s short, I was expecting 40 minutes each OVA XDDD

      >But why are the OVA only on the regular edition ?

I guess because if they came with the deluxe edition, it would have been even more expensive! XD Probably 900 yens more expensive ^^”

      You’re welcome!!

  8. Thanks for the new info! ^___^ I’m happy there’ll be three OAVs, that Production I.G. it’s taking care of them… and as you said, the waiting between them is really short! and myself have fansubbed two series of OAVs and sometimes the space between releases was almost a year ^^u I’m glad there’ll be opportunities for us gaijins to buy them too xP (though I still wonder why are they going to release them like this… they could make a ton of money if they did it the usual way, plus I guess it would be easier to license them in other countries if they didn’t do this: I highly doubt that when volumes 21, 22 & 23 are released here in Spain these OAVs will come with them as well ^^u).

Ohkawa suggested, on the comments section, that from now the animation will differ from the manga
That made me think maybe they’ll make one of their famous alternative endings (like in Angelic Layer or X), one for the OAVs and another different one for the manga. Maybe these OAVs are to TRC kind of like what the second CCS movie was in relation to the CCS anime, except for the fact that CCS had more of a real ending than Tsubasa Chronicle and could have been left like that without a problem XD

If it were to be like this, I personally wouldn’t mind it (I may get killed for this, but I prefer Anime!Angelic Layer’s ending to the manga one ^^u), but I know most people would rant about it endlessly ^^u

    Like

    • Indeed the hiatus between one release and another is very short. I hope that doesn’t mean the quality will be bad.

      >though I still wonder why are they going to release them like this… they could make a ton of money if they did it the usual way

Yeah, I don’t know whay either… all I can think of is because they wanna sell more tankoubons o.o

      >That made me think maybe they’ll make one of their famous alternative endings (like in Angelic Layer or X), one for the OAVs and another different one for the manga.

Exactly! They just can’t release what’s left to be told of the Tsubasa anime in OVAs, so there will be cuts and modifications. This is either the last arc or maybe they will release one more later… but 3 is already quite a number, there might not be more after this.

      >I may get killed for this, but I prefer Anime!Angelic Layer’s ending to the manga one ^^u

I certainly wouldn’t kill you (as I prefer it as well XD). And I think it’s much better to see an alternative ending than seeing the SAME ending of the manga. That’s why no one is more appropriated for the role of scriptwriter than Ohkawa herself ^^

        Like

        • Because even though it’s only 7 minutes, they took good care of the project. I bet it took more time to project and plan it than to animate it.

Also, they used the same amount of sheets of an ordinary TV anime episode. CLAMP was very involved, too, Mokona and Nekoi did the storyboards and CLAMP directed it, that’s why it took so long ^^”

  12. I think 25 minutes each makes perfect sense. That would max to one hour and fifteen minutes, and as long as the Acid Tokyo arcs seems, it really wouldn’t be as long when transferred to animation. Look at the whole scene down in the Reservoir. That took almost a full volume. Animated, it would probably be twenty minutes total. :/ And if all else fails, they could shorten the length of the fight scenes but make what they leave in more violent to compensate. xD

I hope that these OVAs do well and that they’ll continue. I want to see the stabbity-stab-stab scene from Infinity animated. ^^”

I’m rather curious to see how it’ll open, actually. Will it show the very end of Lecourt and then go to Acid Tokyo to sort of say, “HAR, everything that happened Post!Lecourt in the TV series? Didn’t happen. This did.” I’d like that very much. *shifty eyes*

Is it sad my first thought upon hearing this news was, “Remember the part where we said they’re gay and you denied it, Viccy? Har har PWNED.” …?

  13. If you don’t mind, I wanted to point out one glaring mistake from your post: “The Dream Saw by The Princess.” I don’t know what the original Japanese was, but if you want to use the verb in the passive tense, it’d be, “The Dream Seen By the Princess.” (It could also be “The Dream the Princess Saw.”)

Thanks as always, Alex, for the heads up. ^_^ And because I didn’t thank you before– I did get the Clamp interviews and I promise to translate at least one of them! I was a bit surprised that you didn’t include any from Clamp no Kiseki– were they all translated already?

THANK YOU SO MUCH, I can hardly wait!! *-*

      >I was a bit surprised that you didn’t include any from Clamp no Kiseki– were they all translated already?

Pretty much… yeah. Some of them weren’t translated to english yet but I got some Spanish versions, which is better than nothing ^^” And since portuguese is similar to spanish, it wasn’t hard to understand it.

      Like

      • but I got some Spanish versions, which is better than nothing ^^”

Ah, but I’m doing these for the fans, you know? I don’t really need to do the translations because I can read them for myself. So it’d be interesting to do the ones that haven’t been translated into English (though maybe I’ll cheat and lean on the Spanish translation instead of the Japanese original, because even if I don’t speak it, it’s still sometimes easier to understand XD;;;)

Sometimes I feel that Portuguese = Spanish. 😀

        Like

        • I know but, finding people who can translate from Japanese is much harder than finding someone who can translate from Spanish (even I can! XD) So that’s why I didn’t give you any CnK interview, they are pretty much translated. I think that, if you were to spend your time on an interview, better be one that doesn’t have an spanish version ^^”

  16. I fell sick today, I hope I’ll make sense. ^^;

So it is 3 OVAs in the end and only the disk case will be a privilege! Although each OVA will be 25 minutes long … pretty much like a regular TV anime episode. So the title are “The mutual Understanding of the Wizards”, “The Boy’s Right Eye” and “The Dream The Princess Saw” … it would pretty much be an OVA for each Tokyo tankoubon, the first about Feiwang and Yuuko’s plot unfolding as the real!Syaoran wake up and go to Yuuko’s place (with Syaoran-tachi getting in Kamui’s gang), the second about the fight Syaoran vs Syaoran, the third sounds more like the Infinity’s plot, maybe we’ll see Sakura’s dream + they’ll pay for the water in Tokyo and Fay’s life. I suspect they have a both an open ending leading to Infinity and a final ending closing the story, they’ll choose which one will be the real ending with how well the first two will get pre-ordered.

They come along with a regular edition copy, likely because most people have this version anyway and they know the deluxe version buyers will get both the deluxe and the limited edition in this case.

3660¥, 2980¥ and 2980¥, I never thought it would be this cheap, good news. I suppose the higher price of the first will help to pay the production of the last two. Beside, we’ll get 3 tankoubon with two months of gap, quite regular. I wonder if they’ll be able to keep the pace …

With Production I.G. and the Chara Designer of the movie on the project, I hope the visual part will be good. The director is a bit less promising, but with a good scenario and a good visual, he got very little room to mess up (I hope he won’t make me wrong).

But still nothing about xxxHolic, I wonder if the presence of Yuuko plotting is enough for Ohkawa to say it’s about xxxholic too or if we’ll get an OVA along some xxxHolic tankoubon as well …

    Like

    • Hmm, I think the higher price of the first is with the special case. I hope you’re understand what I’ve said, I’m french. ^^’

      Like

      • Well, there’s always a special fee to get the pivilege, for example, you had to pay an extra 1600¥ to get the Clamp no Kiseki’s chess piece case, even after you had already pay all the 12 magazines to collect the coupons in time. This disk case will be no exception. And there’s no hurry to make the readers pay for something that will be released a few months after the last OVA, they could even the prices of three to 3210¥ and make the readers pay in three shot.

And don’t worry, your English is fine. ^_~
Although, if you prefer to answer in French, go on, I’m Quebecker.
