Tsubasa always rocks on Animate’s raking! ^^ But that’s the only place where the deluxe edition has showed up. (Where are the Subaru fans?) The truth is that Tsubasa used to sell a lot better before (although I have to confess that the competitors were hard).

CLAMP Interview from 2002:

x_reggg-san and carcarcarrot-san translated one more interview from the batch of Chinese interviews I gave them to translate ^^

This one was originally conceived in 2002, by the time the anime of Chobits was being aired, and it focuses in no particular matter (it’s pretty general), going from materializing Ohkawa’s ideas into the paper, working in group, to CLAMP’s participation on the anime adaptations of their mangas (which was my favorite part). It’s one of the best interviews I’ve read so far, very interesting.

‘Origin of your nick’ Meme:

It’s a long story, so skip away if you like xD

Okay, here we go. Back in 2002 I got a cool new computer with fast-speed connection, and it was during the time where ICQ was TEH hit xD I used my name for a tiny while, but I needed an alter-ego to use on the internet.

I wanted a nickname of a CLAMP character, because I was already into them at that time. So I asked my friends which character they thought I looked like. Their answer was “Syaoran” xD I guess because my hair used to be like his at that time, and also because I was (and still am quite) short. Although I like Syaoran very much, I didn’t want a character that everybody used in the nickname (nothing against who has Syaoran as a nickname, I just didn’t want to be “one more” in the world xD).

So I started to search for a nickname, and it didn’t take long before I spotted Yuuto xD There were enough reasons to make me choose him. I thought he looked what I would have looked if I were an adult (I had just completed 15 years old at the time xD). He was from X, which was already my all-time favorite CLAMP work. I thought he was a very cool guy (I like his kind of sense of humor). Anyway, I felt sympathy towards him. So I took his name (and the ones who had first suggested me “Syaoran”, approved “Yuuto” 100%, saying that there was so better choice).

The “Chibi” part comes from my height, actually xD I was never a tall guy myself *ashamed* And also because one of my friends who helped me to pick this nickname was known as “Chibi Belldy”, and we would built together our CLAMP website, so we thought it would be cool to be nickname pals xD

Do you remember this story, sorata-kun? XDDD So long ago!

Nowadays I still like Yuuto a lot. And I think he doesn’t get as much “screen-time” as he actually deserves. I think he’s a great character and I would like to know more about him. I already adopted this “nickname” and if I were to ever live in Japan, I would choose “Yuuto” to be my name.

            Yeaaah, but Fai was the really happy one, Kurogane was part of the comic relief chasing round Mokona/Fai, Mokona was an annoying bouncy rat, Sakura was a sickly beam of sunshine, and Syaoran was the dorky determined Knight on a white donkey.
            And none of this applies anymore. D=

            Basically, I used to use the name ‘Ryouko Masaki’ which was taken from a character in an old anime I used to love (and am still very fond of). One random day I got the idea to start an lj, but I didn’t want to use a name I got off a character, so me and my friend sat around for ages in front of the pc pouring over my Japanese dictionary. Seeing what sounded nice.
            In the end we got this, Kurenai Tenka, which means Crimson Snow. It’s kind of morbid and pretty, it’s a poetic-y image to me, anyway. ^^;

            And the rest is history? XD

  5. You’re right, Tsubasa used to sell better before. And of what I read, it’s almos always behind Nana xDDDD (which reminds me to look for the chapter released today). Hey! Furuba should be better placed as well (That’s weird… being the last volume I imagined it would sell better….)
    The story about how you chose your nick is really cute ^^ I didn’t understand why the chibi and now I do xDDD

      • Nope, I don’t know when Furuba was released…. Sorry u.u But I’m guessing in December/January because the last chapter was released in August (I don’t know how much time goes by between the publication of the last chapter of a volume and the volume’s release….).

      • Well, my nickname’s origin is kinda boring.
        A few years ago, a friend’s little sister called me “fresh” (actually, i don’t know exactly why, she said I was a “fresh person” xDD) so everybody started to call me by that name.
        When I create my journal account a few months ago, I was going to use the nickname I use in the forums (kam_) but it was already taken. So I decided to use “fresh” and then “refresh” ( I loved this one because it was the “refresh” button from Internet Explorer) but those were taken too.
        Tired to try taken nicknames I tried “refreshisama” and well, it was available so that’s all xD

    • NOW I can tell that I’m in the average xD I have a bit more than 1,70 m of height (that’s good, right? XD), I don’t know the exact number. But years ago I used to be very short xD

      • yeah ..O_O when i was like 14 or 15 , i started liking a lot CardCaptor Sakura, then all the CLAMP-freaking-thing came easily..:P,then when i was 15 i got my pc,so you can imagine what happen next xDDD

        Maybe i’ll make a meme of my nick name, which is kinda stupid, but it is involved with CLAMP..pretty much in fact ^^

  20. such good news about the rankings! As a subaru fan I’d have bought the delux additon but 1 I’m broke right at this moment in time and 2 its impossible to get them in the uk (tears)

    • I bought the Deluxe Subaru volume! (The only other one I own is number four, with Fai on it, hahaha.) I’d love to own them all, but they’re expensive and I don’t read much Japanese.

      No, but that would be GREAT !!! I have a pretty generous amount of interviews and it would be nice to archive them all in one place. However, I think we would find some problems with copyright issues xD I mean, there are a lot of them for which I don’t remember where I took from nor who translated it. I don’t think it’s a good idea to post them without the permission from the translators, what do you think?

      Like I was saying to somebody else above ^, it’s quite “normal” to think that a CLAMP fan is automatically a girl or someone gay, but I’m neither XD

      When I did this meme, I thought it was a good oportunity to show to everybody who had this doubt that I am a guy ^^ (although it’s pretty clear if you look at my profile)

      • By the way: why do you say Syaoran is short?! i think he looks short because he is always surrounded by people older and, of course, taller. hum, perhaps we can check that if there is any image of the clone with Kamui, who actually is the shortie character of clamp works. got to see those chapters again, uh.
        well, you are right after all: small guys are usually the best, hehe. see you after checking old trc chapters with kamui and the clone.
