XXXHOLiC 117 !

The waiting is over…

Congratulations to XXXHOLiC for reaching the mark of 5.800 millions copies sold ! Last time we heard it was 5.500 millions and that was one month ago o.o 300 thousands in one month !

I missed Yuuko in the splash pages, she looks stunning as always ^__^

So it wasn’t Doumeki’s, it was really Watanuki’s blood. He didn’t die, but he’s seriously bruised now. Which is good. Not the fact that he’s bruised ! I mean, it’s good that it wasn’t just a false alarm, it’s good that XXXHOLiC is going towards it’s climaxes too.

I really loved this chapter, and the way CLAMP used to say that Watanuki was almost dying. One must understand the context of the story to realize that he’s almost dead, it’s not clear nor direct. You can even think that was the “passage” between the life and the death. And an interesting thing is that they picked Watanuki up and then threw him again (when his glasses broke) O__o I mean, what for? XD Could it be the person who actually picked him up (Doumeki?), and Watanuki is interpreting to be his parents? O.o

I love the speech bubbles in the shape of shattered glasses *-*

It’s a big big shame we didn’t see more of Watanuki’s parents… really big shame, specially because I don’t think they’ll ever appear. They seem to be so kind and wonderful.

Who needs a doctor when you have Yuuko, right? XD So she actually saved Watanuki from death, but we know her, she doesn’t do a thing by her own will. She did it because she was requested to… by 3 people o.o

I mean, what? XD

Are we supposed to think that Himawari is one of them, because she’s on the last page, or because she’s inside the shop? Maybe. I think it’s possible that she’s one of the three people, because I’m one to think that Himawari is not evil by nature (more like there’s some incompatibility between her and Watanuki, for some reason only Ohkawa knows).
It’s hard to believe that Doumeki would simply carry Watanuki to the shop and wait patiently for the outcome. I would think he also paid something.
But what about the 3rd one? Kohane? Zashiki Warashi? Haruka (if that’s even possible xD)? Or maybe his parents (payed in advance xD)? …Clow?

But you know what I really want? I want to be wrong so that CLAMP can surprise me with a nice twist ^_____^

The editor’s lines are always stupid, but this time it’s actually foreshadowing ! It says the next chapter will be horrible and sad o_________o (thanks to carcarcarrot-san for translating the chapter AND this line ^___^)

If I was looking forward for this chapter, I am even more for the next one ! Am I the only one that thinks XXXHOLiC is ending? O.o

  1. Wasn’t it said somewhere that once something was revealed that the series would end soon? It may have to do with Himawari.

    The payment for saving him was probably rather high, considering that Yuuko said that if she had saved Fai the price would be too much to bear, so that’s why it took three people here I guess. I’m thinking Doumeki, Himawari, and maybe Kohane. He did see her on his way to school, so she should have been nearby when it happened.

    Next week should be good. ^_^

    Just to say that I agree with you, I’m feeling the end of XXXHolic coming ;___; And I don’t want it ;___;

    I’ll add that I love to read your comments on the new chapters because they quite help me to understand some things. But I hope you’re wrong on the “who are the three people” because you’re always guessing right :p

        Well you’re still a better “guesser” than me ^__^” I’m almost always surprised by the twists CLAMP makes. I think that’s partly why I love them so much.

Thank you for posting chibi yuuto-sama! ;3;…XD I agree in all x_O;; T_T I feel too the end of XXXHolic ;_;…XD but I loved the chapter so I’ll forget the sadness of feeling holic near its end, and because the kimono sayaka was wearing was absolutely beautiful *___* XD I loved it, it was an instant reaction, just saw it and “HOLIC!” is the first thing I could think of :3 XDDDDD and Mokona was there! *_* pictures of Mokona-sama X3! XD that was unexpected! x_O; , Chibi Yuuto-sama arigato gozaimas!! X3333 hope ya are doing well X3!

    Watanuki’s parents (?) speaking to him made me sad… I’m sure he misses them a lot (they seem to miss him a lot too). I’m glad Haruka came to pick him up. When he says that it’s a good thing Doumeki cannot walk through dreams and he can appear as Doumeki, does this mean that Haruka and Doumeki aren’t as… identical as we thought?

    Maybe Watanuki’s parents did pay in advance… with their lives so Watanuki would survive this. Himawari looks kind of… scary in that last page. I’ve never seen her frown like that.

    I hope xxxHOLIC isn’t ending yet (otherwise, we’ll only be able to see Yuuko and Watanuki through Tsubasa).

      I think XXXHOLiC shall end just around the same time as Tsubasa…. by “ending”, I mean a few more volumes to go (no more than 5), and there’s plenty of time for TRC to end too since it’s publication it’s much quicker O.o I don’t know xD

  5. Yay for Himawari involvement! 😀 Also, it was really a teamwork in saving Watanuki – Doumeki, Haruka and Yuuko combined. 🙂 I wonder what the price is and who are those three people who paid it?? I think Himawari is one, maybe Doumeki too (but then again, he already paid for Watanuki once, won’t that be too much?)…

    Great thought about the third being Kohane or Zashiki Warashi! But it’d be awesome if his parents had paid something in advance, securing Watanuki’s life in case something ever happens to him. That would mean they knew Yuuko too… O_O

  6. We only have three more chapters until the volume ends, right? So I guess HOLiC will last at least one more volume, unless they really really rush things. (I’m also confused about TRC. I always thought these two series would end in a big crossovers, but it looks like Tsubasa still has a way to go, and they can’t stretch HOLiC much longer… oh well, we’ll have to wait and see.)

    Such a great chapter, I love it. HOLiC is usually like this for me: they do thing that I wasn’t expecting at all but they still make sense. I didn’t even think that maybe he’d see his parents. I think they “threw” him because it wasn’t time to day yet, so they couldn’t take him with them? I’m not sure, I’ll have to reread it.

    I want to know more about Himawari. I feel sorry for her, because I agree with you: I don’t think she’s evil or that she does things on purpose. I really wonder what’s up with her.

    About the three who paid, my first thought was that they were Watanuki, Doumeki and Himawari; the “three players” that Yuuko mentioned back in the ghost stories arc. But from the way she said it I’m pretty sure that Watanuki isn’t one of the people who are paying.

  7. I agree with it seeming like xxxHOLiC is going to end soon, I think CLAMP is just about ready to twist everything up again and surprise us all with the ending! While it’ll be sad to see it go I think it’s timed nicely. I’m very curious to see if everyone’s expectations about the three people are true or not as well as what’s up with Himawari. I totally agree with the ‘incapable’ type explanation. It just makes more sense.

    O.O I so want a copy of the kimono book when it comes out. ♥

      • As much as I love XXXHOLiC, I think it won’t go beyond 2007.

        Definitely. CLAMP pretty good about the sizes of there series, unlike some that can drag on when they need to wrap up *coughInuYashacough*. >.>

        I am starting to wonder about how long they’ll keep Tsubasa going though since Shounen series are notoriously long. 😡

  8. My biggest shock was that Himawari was able to enter the shop. That makes me think that she was probably one of the three that paid a price to save Watanuki. I’m 99.9% certain that Doumeki’s one of the three, too.

    Wouldn’t it be ironic if Yuuko turned out to be one of the three? That actually sounds quite likely to me, but then she’d have to pay something to herself, which sounds absurd.

    • Yeah, the fact that she entered the shop says a lot of her personality. To me it means she’s not capable of doing everything by her own, and also that she’s a very insecure person.

    ARGH I was so excited for this chapter and I’m happy to know was so great.
    In a moment I was like “OMG, maybe Himawari are three in one” but yeah I’m weird so I don’t think so 😛 But I like the idea of Watanuki’s parents will paid the price too.

    Of course chibi Watanuki was adorable, but was so sad, make me remember the time when Kamui was in shock and Subaru help him, only this time “Subaru” was Haruka.

  10. These three people sure are mysterious. Himawari is in, she’s in the shop after all so she needed Yuuko for something. Did Doumeki enter the shop too if he needed Yuuko’s help? Who’s the third? And most importantly, what did they pay? Can’t wait for next Wednesday. ~_~

    By the way, Dr Yuuko has been busy today. She saved Fay and Watanuki. I mean she wore the same chrysanthemum kimono in both occasion and we all know Yuuko wore her clothings only once, then she burn them. Well, so it seems. ^_~

    • Well, Doumeki needed Yuuko once, too, but he still couldn’t enter the shop. I think it goes far more than only “needing” Yuuko. I think it depends on your personality. People who are insecure and uncapable of doing things by themselves are the ones who can see the shop… because it would be like a “salvation” to them.
      As for the confident and self-centered people, like Doumeki, don’t see the shop because they don’t need it, they can make it on their own.

  11. Yo, Chibi-Yuuto! Genki desu ka? It was a nice chapter and I like the scene of young Watanuki with his parents. My predictions was right in all sorts of ways for this on which I wrote in “The Nyanko Chronicles” article 2B! Yatta for me!!! / Anyway, I knew about Watanuki was going to be severely injured and wow, how quickly Yuuko saved him on time. I don’t truly know if it was Doumeki or Haruka who pulled him back when he was unconscious. About the 3 people who paid for the wish, I do not know the third person who did it. However, I think that Himawari and Doumeki is one of them.

    I have to agree with you about the part that xxxHOLiC is going to end soon. I wonder if you know something about how many volumes are remaining for the HOLiC series. I just hope that they are involved if Tsubasa throws a 3rd turning point. Maybe I will write an article on “The Nyanko Chronicles” about the recap of the two turning points of Tsubasa for those people who forgot it.

    Sayaka to Mokona no yukata wa suteki desu wa!! ^o^ I absolutely love the purple yukata on Mokona and the detailed yukata from Sayaka! I gotta make an icon of Mokona with that yukata. Zettai ni!!

    Chibi-Yuuto no setsumei wa itsumo tanoshikata deshita!! ^__^ Can’t wait for Tsubasa 128 and HOLiC 118! I will continue to look forward to your explanations even though I write them on “The Nyanko Chronicles” just to kill the boredom.

    • The first season covered vols 1~6 (with a few exceptions like the photograph arc, which is from vol 7, I think), so maybe season 2 shall cover vols. 7~12. So I think XXXHOLiC will last 12 volumes.

    Total love for the glasses speach bubble and for the general feeling of forboding I got when Himiwari appeared in the doorway!

      Maybe… I don’t know how it works. I don’t know if someone who can’t see the shop today will be able to see it tomorrow. Maybe yes, but maybe if someone can’t see it, they just can’t, no matter what O.o

      Watanuki saved Zashiki Warashi’s live once, so I think she would like to do the same for him. Besides, it’s been so long since we last saw her.

I think there’s a incompability between she and Watanuki (which is very obvious) which must be revealed in the next chapters. I love Haruka-jii-sama *bows* rescues Watanuki. My minds rambling and the heck why Himawari is in the shop and why Doumeki wasn’t there D:

I’m kind of tired so I can’t find the comment, but someone mentioned something about how it would be absurd for Yuuko to pay herself in order to save Watanuki… but when Yuuko takes payment from people it’s not really for herself, right? Like she said that she just holds on to items that go to other people. So when it’s an intangible payment it’s more of a payment to fate, or to karma (I’m particularly thinking of the photo episode which just aired in the anime). So for Yuuko to make a payment is not all that absurd… and I for one kind of like the idea, since it seems up until now Yuuko has been kind of emotionally detached from everything, it would be interesting to see her have some emotional involvement (in a purely non-romantic/sexual way) with Watanuki.

    Also has it been confirmed, or is it just a wild theory, that Watanuki is somehow related to Clow? If so it would be interesting to see Yuuko caring about Watanuki as a part of Clow who it seems she held some sort of emotional regard for….

    • Yeah, it’s very possible for Yuuko to pay as well. For each spell, something has to be given of equal value. As Seishirou said in Tokyo Babylon:

      If you cast a spell using the Art, and the spell is very powerful, then the backlash upon the caster will also be very powerful. The spell itself might not be reflected, but the karma from the spell will return to the caster without fail. That is Sakanagi. Professionals like Subaru-kun are aware of this, and therefore place special defenses upon themselves for protection.

      ^ That’s pretty much the reason why Yuuko doesn’t grant wishes for free, it would be harmful to herself.

    • It would be interesting if Yuuko was one of them, but something tells me that she wasn’t. I don’t know, I think Yuuko’s character will always be like that, very impartial in those kind of things. But if she did pay something, then it would mean that she genually cares for Watanuki.

      As for Clow, no, nothing has been confirmed about a possible relation between him and Watanuki ^^

  15. It’s not all over yet!

    Someone posted something about how Ohkawa told some of the team of what was in store for Watanuki and the place turned into a war zone. So is this gonna end good or bad? BTW if this is gonna be like Tokyo Babylon it isnt over yet, in fact its just begun. Maybe some of the xxxHolic chars are gonna cross over to Tsubasa?

  18. I’d like the third person to be Clow as well, just because he seems to be involved from the very beginning. I don’t recall Yuuko’s exact words, but it was something along the lines, “We knew he was something special huh Clow?” a few volumes ago, making me think he knew what would happen as well. I really hope xxxHolic isn’t over soon, I feel there is so many stories still to be told. And the story line with the ‘evil-wing-thingies’ never truly resolved either. Still I’m curious what will happen when Watanuki has completed his ‘metamorphosis.’ What has Watanuki really gotten himself into?

  19. When I first saw the scans the first thing I did was wonder where was Doumeki…. I’m almost sure he could’nt solve this matter by himslef, that he would need Yuuko’s help this time and so enter the shop. And I still hope to see him in. I’m sure he was one of the ones who paid. What scares me a lot is the last line …. ops ops ops, for some reason I’m scared of what Clamp is going to do ;_; I’ve read upside that Clamp’s Headquarters got revolted becasue of what has to come and I remebered that Mokona asked Nanase not to kill Hokuto……. looks the same is happening AGAIN!

    • I might be dead wrong but I don’t think Doumeki’s in the shop. Remember the eye arc? He still wanted to meet Yuuko very muchly but he couldn’t enter even so. I know this time is a much worse issue, but I still think that Doumeki, as a whole, cannot enter the shop.

      But then again, I’m probably wrong XDDD

  20. Wow. i was thinking about the 3 people who saved watanuki´s life, and yuuko came to my mind. now i see i´m not the only one. I think is possible (even when i´m not sure if yuuko is good or evil. i always got a strange feeling about her, and i dont know why)She can pay, since when people pay, their payment is used for another person, not for yuuko´s will. so she is more like a keeper.
    I agree with all the people who believe that himawari is not evil, but just bad to watanuki. Even so, i´m not sure about her beeing one of the people who pay for his life. aaah, and is so strange seen her with that serious face, when she is always smiling. creepy
    But the thing that disturbes me most is watanuki´s parent´s face. Who are they? maybe that is an important question, since ancester are always important in clamp world.
    Brrr… those apocaliptic words at the end… my, holic is going to end in tragedy? i hope not.
    WOW. and did you see those kimonos?! i love them!! i want them!! i always dream to dress a kimono, sigh… Mokona is really wonderfull.

    Poor Watanuki X__x But at least he’s alive… the part where we see chibi-Watanuki talking with his dead parents made me cry ;__; But then, Haruka appeared! ^___^ I luv him even more than before *0*

    3 people… let me think… Himawari is one for sure, that explains why she’s in Yuuko’s shop O_o I have the feeling we’ll know more about her in the next chapter. Oh, noes T_T That means xxxHolic will end soon… that makes me sad, because I don’t want it to end so soon! ;___;
    Doumeki is one of the other 3 people for sure ^_^ Poor boy, he surely had a heart attack when he saw his boyfriend friend hurt like that… Yuuko said he couldn’t enter the shop cause he didn’t need it… but now things have changed a lot: he may need to come in now in order to save Wata…
    And something inside me wants Yuuko to be the third ^.^ I mean, I’m pretty sure she cares for Watanuki. For me she’s like his older sister or something like that, the only family he has (so are Doumeki and Himawari). I want to see her showing feelings for him, dammit! T.T

    Btw, I love Mokona’s kimono!! *___* It’s so… Yuuko-ish XDDD

        I’m not crasy, I know that they can’t just go on forever, it’s a fact…
        BUT!!! Sakura and Syaoran were already used twice (for CCS as children and for TRC as adolescent), there definitely won’t be a 3th time…so more then the end of the series, what I don’t want to is to say goodbye FOREVER to both of them *especially Syaoran* T______________________T

        And something else..WTH with “The next chapter will be horrible…and sad!” ??!!

        • Nooo! Don´t want them to end now!! I want more syaoran development too!! i want to see him fight more, and also kuro and fye using his magic!! and some romance, please!! in ccs, they finished with just a hug in the last page, that´s not enough when you had seen syaoran suffering for so long,and with trc is the same!! … well, that´s only if there will be a happy end- i hope so- Of course i´m anxious and i want to know what is going to happen, but i also want to enjoy more of the story and specially syaoran^-^.
          aaah, and those horrible words.brrr… sounds creepy, more coming from the editor. he knows, so… bad, too bad, i´m afraid.

    I do believe Himawari’s not evil in nature, and that she doesn’t want to kill/contaminate/pollute “pure” Watanuki with her evil presence. o_o

    I think the next Chapter will be full of spoilers, because many things appeared :
    Himawari is definitly someone strange (and she entered into Yuuko’s shop, so that means she need it), Domeki helped Kimihiro but… Where is him ? We didn’t see it yet in this chapter, and… Who’s the third person ? I guess it is the Zashiki Warashi (cause she loves him), but it could be someone else (like Clow, maybe *o*)…

    I also noticed that Yuuko weared the same clothes in the last Tsubasa chapter… Does that mean it takes place at the same time ? In Tsubasa she send something to Shaolan, so maybe it was Domeki, Himawari or ???’s contribution…

    I can’t wait for the next scans !!!

    Word! it’s so special and it implies that Watanuki was “almost dying”…

    lol, i really didn’t try this one…well, i’m not even sure if Clow’s alive in their world…(he’s already dead in both CCS and Clow Country, right?)
    but if he is one of those three persons, that will be very interesting… 😛

      • There’s absolutely NO way for Clow Reed to be alive, since CCS world and XXXHolic world are the same one : the Clow Yuuko always refers to is the one that “appears” in CCS and which is dead for 300 years or something…what is left are his two reincarnations : Fujitaka and Eriol, but I REALLY don’t think there’s gonna make an appearance in XXXHolic…
