On its seventh week after its release, Card Captor Sakura ~Clear Card arc~ #1 fell to the 39th place in Oricon’s weekly ranking, selling an estimate of 14,574 copies.

The above numbers are for the regular edition. The Special Edition (mangaka set) did not appear in this week’s ranking.

Combining the sales for both versions, Card Captor Sakura ~Clear Card arc~ #1 sold an impressive estimate of 419,041 copies overall so far!

It is unlikely that CCS Clear Card #1 will appear in next week’s ranking, but I hope I’m wrong. That doesn’t mean that it will stop selling, of course. It will keep selling, just not enough to appear in Oricon’s weekly top 50. Considering that it will keep selling during the next few weeks, and that we don’t know the limited edition’s numbers, it’s safe to assume that it will soon break the 500.000 mark. It’s also always worth mentioning that although Oricon is the most trustworthy and relevant ranking chart that we know of these days, most but not all bookstores and shops are covered by it, so that the numbers we have are only an estimate and it’s likely that it sold more than this.

Seven weeks is undoubtedly a long run, the longest run of a CLAMP manga since I started taking accounts of sales performance. I’m looking forward to see how the upcoming volumes will perform once they are release, and it’ll be fun to compare it with the previous volumes.

Sakura keeps conjuring her magic in Oricon’s charts!

Now on to its sixth week, Card Captor Sakura ~Clear Card arc~ #1 climbed 3 positions in comparison to last week, landing on the 26th place in Oricon’s weekly ranking!

In terms of copies sold, however, the number was slightly less than last week’s, but still quite impressive considering it’s been six weeks since its release. That being said, an estimate of 23,894 copies were sold this past week.

The above numbers are for the regular edition. The Special Edition (mangaka set) did not appear in this week’s ranking.

Combining the sales for both versions, Card Captor Sakura ~Clear Card arc~ #1 sold an estimate of 404,467 copies overall so far!

Congratulations for CLAMP and Card Captor Sakura for breaking the 400.000 mark in 6 weeks!

HiGH&LOW manga adaptation by CLAMP to begin serialization in Japanese Spring

news_header_highlow_clampThis week’s issue of Weekly Shonen Magazine (released today in Japan) will officially announce the manga adaptation of the HiGH&LOW franchise by CLAMP.

The manga will begin serialization in the Japanese Spring in Weekly Shonen Magazine (Kodansha).

In case you missed, check this post for more background info about CLAMP’s new project, a manga adaptation of HiGH&LOW.

I didn’t think CLAMP would ever draw weekly again after Tsubasa and XXXHOLiC — this latter is being published in a monthly basis despite being running in a weekly magazine.

Am I excited about this? Yes I am. Am I happy to have weekly or semi-weekly CLAMP fix? Hell yeah!

CLAMP x SOUND THEATRE XXXHOLiC official website renewed

The official website of CLAMP x SOUND THEATRE XXXHOLiC has been renewed to include story, staff, cast information and more.

The website also informs that tickets for both presentations on January 28 and 29 have completely sold out.

CLAMP also drew a special illustration for the event, which might be used for some of the exclusive goods expected to be sold at the venue. The list of goods hasn’t been announced yet.

CLAMP x SOUND THEATRE XXXHOLiC is a stage performance that mixes drama and live music.

CLAMP member Nanase Ohkawa is in charge of writing the script and the story is centered on a lady who goes to Yuuko’s shop seeking help “to find important things”. The two hints that might lead to find those things are “women” and “favorite songs”.

No word yet whether this will be later released in DVD or Blu-Ray.

Card Captor Sakura ~Clear Card arc~ volume 1 is officially doing well in the rankings! On its fifth week, not only the book climbed to the 29th position, but it also sold more copies than the previous two weeks!

An estimate of 34,764 copies were sold in the past week — 1.282 more than last week.

The above numbers are for the regular edition. The Special Edition (mangaka set) did not appear in this week’s ranking.

Combining the sales for both versions, Card Captor Sakura ~Clear Card arc~ #1 sold an estimate of 380,573 copies overall so far.

The sales increase might be explained by the holidays, or maybe because Card Captor Sakura might just have consistent sales over the weeks.

It’s been fun to watch Card Captor Sakura‘s long run, and let’s keep our fingers crossed for it to break the mark of 400.000 copies sold next week!

BREAKING: CLAMP to draw “HiGH&LOW” manga adaptation

c1drraxxeaapqmz-jpg-largeIt’s been announced that CLAMP will draw a manga adaptation for EXILE TRIBE’s franchise HiGH&LOW.

HiGH&LOW is a comprehensive entertainment project that encompasses various forms of content media. Produced by EXILE HIRO, the project started in 2014 and since then the franchise originated a 2-seasons TV Drama, three movies, live concerts and a manga adaptation. Two more movies are planned for 2017.

The long cast is majorly composed by members of Japanese band EXILE TRIBE as well as other well-known actors and actresses.

According to Oricon, HiGH&LOW was the 15th top-selling franchise in Japan on 2016.

The first manga adaptation was drawn by Masami Hosokawa and it ran in Bessatsu Shonen Champion (Akita Shoten) from November 2015 until October 2016, with a total of 3 volumes released.

Story

The legend begins at a certain town that used to be under the rule of a legendary organization called Mugen. And within the ranks of that domineering organization were two legendary brothers – the Amamiya Brothers, who were proved to be both brutal and unbeaten during that time.

Yet somehow the Mugen was suddenly dispersed during a fierce battle… And in the aftermath of the chaos are five organizations that aim to take control of that area. As a result, this area came to be known as SWORD, an acronym attribute to the names of the five organizations. And in that area dwells a gang that goes by the name “G-SWORD”. These 5 organizations include: Sanno Association and its second-generation Sanno Shouten brawlers, the alluring white demons known as the White Rascals, the dark and brutal Onija High School, the ghosts on the ruthless street aka the RUDE BOYS and the family of vengeful destroyers of Daruma Hooligans”.

These 5 gangs will put their pride on the line as they engage in a fierce battle for dominance! However, the plot thickens… a mysterious group called MIGHTY WARRIORS appears. And the question that everyone is asking now is, are they enemies or allies? What fate awaits this town… (Arama! Japan)

CLAMP have been enthusiastically tweeting their appreciation for the franchise since the beginning of it, often making doodles and sharing them on their twitter account, and in September/2016, Nanase Ohkawa wrote a review for the first movie that was published in Asahi newspaper.

I think it’s safe to assume that Mokona will be in charge of the drawings, judging by the doodles they posted on twitter. These doodles might give us an idea of what to expect from the aesthetics of this project.

I’m looking forward to this!

More info as they come. Stay tuned!

Special thanks to Marco06 for kindly letting me know about this piece of info. Merci beaucoup !

CLAMP New Year’s Greetings

Traditionally, every year CLAMP and other japanese artists give their New Year’s Greetings by drawing something related to the correspondent animal of the Chinese Zodiac Calendar. According to the Chinese Zodiac, the year of 2017 is the year of the Rooster, therefore CLAMP made an illustration of the Mokonas and a chicken:

CLAMP also started an instagram account, you may follow them @clamp_4_official. They have been updated it almost daily since they launched it a few days ago.

Among the new posts, I would like to highlight the two signature boards they did in December 28th that might be the prize for a contest that Kodansha is holding for illustrations submitted made with Card Captor Sakura‘s mangaka set. In one of them, Princess Sakura from Tsubasa is holding a little chicken, also in reference to the year of the Rooster:

Nanase Ohkawa is putting her twitter account on hiatus for an undetermined amount of time so that she can focus on her work. She tweeted that she will be quite busy working on the series composition and writing the scripts for all the episodes of the upcoming Card Captor Sakura new TV anime. She also mentioned working on “other projects” without giving specifics.

Although it dropped to the 34th position in Oricon’s weekly ranking, the first volume of Card Captor Sakura ~Clear Card arc~ managed to sell more copies than the previous week! On its fouth week of sales, it sold 33,482 copies sold in its second week of sales — 688 more than last week, completely surpassing my own estimates! That shows that Card Captor Sakura is having a good performance in the long run.

The above numbers are for the regular edition. The Special Edition (mangaka set) did not appear in this week’s ranking.

Combining the sales for both versions, Card Captor Sakura ~Clear Card arc~ #1 sold an estimate of 345,809 copies overall so far.

I’ll keep an eye on next week’s ranking to see if Card Captor Sakura shows up again (hopefully yes!).
