This week’s issue of anan magazine (issue 2230) is announcing that CLAMP will be in charge of the illustrations for a new Haken Anime! spinoff novel series.

The spinoff is entitled Oto to Koe no Bouken (Adventure of Sound and Voice) and will begin serialization two weeks from now, on issue 2232 of anan. The series will be written by the same author as Haken Anime!, Mizuki Tsujimura.

The announcement came in this week’s issue of anan magazine, which also contains a 4-pages recap of CLAMP’s creative trajectory with highlights by Mizuki Tsujimura.

The original Haken Anime! novel was serialized in anan magazine from 2012 to 2014, each chapter featuring a colored illustration drawn by CLAMP. The chapters were compiled and released in book format in 2014. A paperback edition was later released in 2017. In 2019, it received a stage play adaptation.

This is great news! I love the fact that they seem to be getting more active in 2021 ^-^

Like previous Code Geass anime series, Takahiro Kimura will once again adapt CLAMP’s original concept designs for the anime. No information regarding beginning of broadcast was given.

The smartphone game will be called Code Geass Genesic Re;CODE and will be available starting April 2021. The key visual featuring the three main characters was also revealed, along with a PV:

At least for the game, the character designs looks very much like the current CLAMP style. I am already looking forward to see CLAMP’s original concepts and all the new illustrations they will provide for this! 2021 is already looking better than 2020 so far =)

Tokyo Babylon 2021 team addresses unauthorized use of materials allegations and takes actions

Today the Tokyo Babylon 2021 TV Anime production team has released an official statement addressing received allegations of unauthorized use of materials in characters’ costumes

The statement, which was posted on the Tokyo Babylon 2021 official website, chronicles the events since the first allegations were reported by fans, the investigation that was carried out within the production staff, acknowledging the mistake and down to an apology to CLAMP, Tokyo Babylon readers, the cast, staff and everyone who has been supportive of Tokyo Babylon 2021. The statement assures that the production team is committed to prevent this from happening again.

Unauthorized materials had been used for Subaru Sumeragi’s ceremonial robes and Hokuto Sumeragi’s pink outfit.

As immediate actions that were taken, the two previously released PVs have been removed from YouTube, as well as all visuals have been removed from the official website and all Tokyo Babylon 2021 social networks. The team will likely rework these and release them again in the future.

This was an unfortunate event but at least the flaw has been humbly acknowledged, they are working on fixing the mistake and committed to prevent it from happening again. I hope this time they will base the designs on CLAMP’s source materials, which we all love so much.

I really enjoyed the cast choice, specially Subaru and Seishirou. It’s worth noting that none of the staff members have previously worked in a CLAMP anime adaptation. I am also under the impression that all of them are male, but that needs to be confirmed.

Unfortunately, CLAMP themselves are not involved in the staff. I was also surprised by the fact that CLAMP did not leave any comments to the staff and cast, as they usually do. In fact, CLAMP have been really silent regarding this anime adaptation so far, which is a bit odd considering how dear to their heart Tokyo Babylon is.

I liked the new PV better than the first one, even though it seems to be a bit too much action-oriented than what Tokyo Babylon asks for. The music sounds good. I also liked slightly more the new character designs that have been revealed today, however Seishirou remains being the one that I like the least.

Card Captor Sakura ~Clear Card arc~ #9 second week sales report

© CLAMP・Shigatsu Tsuitachi CO.,LTD. / 講談社

The ninth volume of Card Captor Sakura ~Clear Card arc~ dropped to the 46th position in Oricon’s weekly ranking, with an estimate of 29,786 copies sold in its second week of sales. Combining the sales from weeks 1 and 2, the overall sales for volume 9 is an estimate of 107,406 copies. Not only this is the weakest second week sales for a Clear Card volume, but also it is the lowest overall sales by week 2 of the entire Clear Card series so far.

These numbers are for the regular edition, only. Numbers for the special edition (Stationery set) are unknown as it did not appear on the ranking. Keep in mind that pre-orders and special edition sales might have affected these first week sales numbers.

It is worth mentioning that Oricon only takes into account a certain number of shops. These numbers are only an estimate and it’s possible that the real figures are higher than these.

The chart below shows the progress in the sales of Card Captor Sakura ~Clear Card arc~ over the weeks and compares it with previous volumes’ performances (click on it for dynamic version):

I don’t think we will be seeing volume 9 in next week’s ranking. It was a really short run. In fact, the last time a Clear Card volume made it to the third week was in 2018, with volume 5.

CLAMP 30th Anniversary x BE・LOVE 40th Anniversary Special Collaboration Project

 © 講談社

As part of a joint collaboration project to celebrate CLAMP’s 30th Anniversary and the 40th Anniversary of Kodansha‘s josei manga magazine BE・LOVE, a new celebratory illustration drawn by CLAMP is going to be published in the magazine’s February 2021 issue, which is scheduled to be released on December 28.

The same illustration will be used as a present service that readers will be able to apply to earn it.

BE・LOVE is a monthly manga magazine targeting women (josei) published by Kodansha.

Source: CLAMP-NET.COM

Choosing BE・LOVE is an… interesting choice, considering that CLAMP never drew a series for that magazine. One would expect this to take place in Nakayoshi, Young Magazine or even Shonen Magazine.

BE・LOVE is targeted at adult women so that’s what they might be going for — after all, if you grew up reading CLAMP, you are probably an adult by now.

Unless there’s more to it and this could be foreshadowing into something bigger…? I’m probably reading too much into this… but just to give an example, I remember that before Kobato (Temporary)’s serialization was officially announced in Sunday GX magazine, they published a single illustration of Kobato in the issue before. I won’t keep my hopes up but I’m just saying that bigger projects might be born from these seemingly “harmless” projects.

I’m looking forward to this illustration and how the readers of BE・LOVE will react to it =)

Also, it seems like the 30th Anniversary celebrations are finally kicking in? Please don’t stop! =)
