Dengeki has a VERY NICE coverage of the XXXHOLiC◆Kei event that was held at LOFT/PLUS ONE on last March 15.
The article has a transcript of the press conference that was held in the event, and it includes several great pictures. Make sure to check it out!
Ohkawa is pretty. Nekoi has braids (how cute XD)
Here are some highlights I was able to translate:
– Concerning the subtitle, it was Ohkawa who suggested “Kei”. There was an objection for the use of “2” or an english word.
– The Director said Season 2 will be very close to the manga, like Season 1. There is going to be more effects. Season 1 had effects too but this time they’ll be a little different.
– When asking if there was a demand on CLAMP’s part, Ohkawa said that they asked the director to pay attention to the characters’ proportions (body and head). Certainly in the manga they are very long, but they ended up being even longer in the anime.
– Director Mizushima will write the script for no more than one episode. He’ll do the storyboard for more than one episode, though.
– Suga Shikao wrote the lyrics for NOBODY KNOWS once, but after he read the manga, he rewrote the lyrics. Ohkawa was surprised because when she got the lyrics they were something, and when she saw them again, they were something else.
– There’s a mistake in the Alice in Wonderland episode. The trees have apples instead of roses (like it should be). When the director noticed the mistake, it was too late to correct it.
My comments: Thank you CLAMP, for requesting the studio to review the characters’ body proportions. Okay press, you asked about Mizushima’s scripts but you should have asked about Ohkawa’s scripts (way more important xD). Yay for Suga Shikao reading XXXHOLiC and basing his song on it.
The following are more tidbits from the event that I was able to extract from Yoshiyuki-kun:
– Mokona asked Ohkawa “Ame Warashi’s name has the kanji for “woman”, but why Zashiki Warashi’s name doesn’t have it?”, Ohkawa then answered “Did I ever say Zashiki Warashi is a girl?”
– Ohkawa asked the director why Ame Warashi’s hair is red. He said that it was like that in the manga, and Ohkawa replied “It’s light blue”.
– There was a question corner, and somebody asked whether there will be a character with an unhappy ending in XXXHOLiC too, like Tsubasa, Ohkawa dodged the question by changing the subject and ended up not answering at all.
– Apparently, only Doumeki’s mother is alive (his father died).
There is one last thing that I’m a little reluctant to write. From what I could gather, Kazahaya and Rikuou are scheduled to appear in “Kei”. I asked Yoshiyuki-kun about it, he said they did say something about Gouhou Drug but alas, he couldn’t remember exactly what. Just keep in mind that they might make another cameo appearance. Wouldn’t that be awesome?
And what a tricky answer Ohkawa gave to Mokona, isn’t it? xD Indeed the kanji in Zashiki Warashi’s name stands for “child”, not “girl”.

They appeared in episode 6 of the first season and had a couple lines. XD Kazahaya’s VA at least is starting to make quite the name for himself. Rikuou’s VA has done mostly very small roles in a handful of series.

If his father is the son of Haruka, then most likely yes, but if Haruka is the father of his mother, then maybe not. Most likely his father since he has the same surname.

Thanks for this latest HOLiC news. As usual Ohkawa, Mokona and the rest of the CLAMP ladies are cute. Whoa! I was surprised for the part that Zashiki Warashi not being a girl. Holy Mokona! O.o Aww… Doumeki’s otousama is dead, but let’s hope that they get to show him what he looked like. I’m curious to know his mother, though… Yatta!! That’s pretty cool that the Gohou Drug boys are going to appear for the series. >///<

I didn’t like the 1st season because of the character design; so much of the lovely CLAMP feel was lost. But the Kei does look a lot better! ^^
In Legal Drug it’s mentioned that Kei means fire, does xxxHOLiC Kei have the same meaning?

Well-noticed! Kei’s kanji is different though, it’s 炯. XXXHOLiC’s Kei means “Continuation/Sucession”.

Do you remember which volume has that colored spread with Ame Warashi? Maybe it’s after volume 7, and the director never “read” that volume since Season 1 covers up to volume 6 and a few arcs from volume 7.

I imagine that the spirits and other magical beings are usually genderless–not always of course. The reason for the kanji for “child” could just be because “she’s” a pure being.
I never knew which hair color was correct for Ame Warashi-I’m glad to know it’s blue-red does seem a bit odd for a rain spirit…

I always assumed that NOBODY KNOWS was written specifically for use in xxxHOLiC Kei since I was under the impression that he wrote 19-sai especially for xxxHOLiC in the first place. He’s a fan of the series, after all, so unless I’m mistaken, it isn’t too surprising that he decided to take a pre-existing song and rewrite its lyrics to better suit xxxHOLiC.

Yes, he calls himself a XXXHOLiC fan, and I think 19 Sai was written for XXXHOLiC too (“Ageha chou”, totally for Ohkawa xD And so XXXHOLiC-ish too).
But I couldn’t relate the 19 Sai lyrics with XXXHOLiC…. we’ll see how much NOBODY KNOWS has to do with it.

Well, the Zashiki Warashi are a very popular figure in Japanese folklore, but they’re usually represented as young boys… it surprised me a bit that CLAMP’s version was (aparently) a girl… kudos to CLAMP for shaking that up. Since Zashiki Warashi are supposed to be forever children (which explains Ame-Warashi’s indignation at the fact that she/he had “grown” since meeting Watanuki), it’s likely we’ll never see him/her wihtout enough clothes to tell which one she/he/it is. XD
